Nortel - Oh how I hate you

Ok...

So this isn't really a fit for this forum, but its the best place I know for help.

I'm an IT who has inherited the nightmare that is our Nortel Phone System. Any assistance on the following matters would be greatly appreciated it. Model # is T7316E

Problem Number 1
Setting up Voicemail.
Ok, so I've gotten into the **266344 and 983 menus to setup a new user. Go in, change their name, etc. The problem comes in when im in 266344 and trying to assign an extension. For example, one of the phones is extension 225. I know this. I dial 225, I get that person. However, when I try to assign that extension to that person using 266344, it says the extension is already in use.

At first I thought it may not need extensions, but after reviewing the other, correctly working phones, it does require it.

So, Any ideas on wtf is going wrong here?

Problem Number 2
Locked out of VM
One of my salesmen tried to access his VM repeatedly, but forgot his password. This result in the VM getting locked. It says to contact the admin. Ok. I go into 983 and reset the password, no luck.

Any tips would be helpful, as my current plan involves these phones, gravity, and the roof of our building.

Sorry man, my model is vastly different from yours and I just barely get by with the documentation. On the locked thing though, it might unlock automatically after a set period of time. I don't know for sure. All I can say is you either need to dig through some documentation, find a better forum for this type of question, or pay a consultant to assist and train you at the same time.

Yeah, its looking like getting a consultant in is my only option. I've ripped through the documentation (what meager supply there was) and tried waiting for the lock to time out.

    Bah.

You might try the Ars Technica forums, they are a much more knowledgeable crowd in terms of IT over there. No offense to my brethren here of course.

No chance of calling up Nortel? If not, Geek Squad has corporate agents who are specialized in these areas and can come out to fix it. Think Avaya Customer Support on-call.

Nortel... hm. Used to work for them.

...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.
