I may be remembering completely wrong, but did Apple used to or still have an upgrade program where you could take your old generation Ipod and take it to the Apple store and get $100 credit on buying a new Ipod?

Ah, yes, did a google search -- they offer a 10% discount for bringing your iPod to them for recycling. Call your local store or Apple directly to confirm if they're still doing it.
