I'm going to say it again
I wouldn't mind a monster-of-the-week format with some conspiracy stuff in every episode
The way X-Files did it drove me nuts and I could never follow the conspiracy
the fun thing about the x-files was that most of the interesting conspiracy threads were wrapped up by season 5 because carter wanted to stop the series, but it was too successful so FOX made him continue
one of the many reasons why everything after season 5 sucks
Man this was on page 3 but I'm going back to it because season 7 had X-Cops and that's one of the greatest episodes ever.
Jose Chung and Clyde Bruckman definitely are above it though.
Also, one of the first few episodes, the one in the abandoned hospital was fucking scary. In fact the show is consistently on the good side of creepy that a lot of shows dont manage to achieve.

God it is such an amazing show. The cast is great, the car is great, the music is great, the effects are great... the writing...
I HATE shows that can each be contained within each episode like CSI and all that crap.
But, I'm one of those bizarre few that got annoyed when he found out the next week of X-files would be another monster episode. I liked all the conspiracy stuff.
Come to think of it though, there definitely could be a better balance. Take Firefly, for instance. Each episode can stand on its own but there are still mysteries going on beneath the surface of the series that WOULD HAVE been developed eventually, like the blue hands and all that.
Even House is too stand-alone for me. I'm sure there's a continuing storyline but not enough of one for my tastes.
I keep saying
It wasn't the conspiracy stuff I minded
It was the fact that he spaced out the conspiracy stuff and then would have like 2 episodes devoted to it that I hated
I could never remember what was going on

That and the fact that (take this from a dude that use to OBSESS over it) it all just started contradicting itself and it was quite clear that the writers were just winging it for the most part.

When I watched the first three seasons on DVD I ended up skipping the conspiracy after the first season

You would love Loose Change
I only refer to him as Coach Teague. There is no such character as Dean Winchester.
good thing abrams is doing the standalone episode thing with it
let's see what happens!

but really
everything past season 5 was not up to par
I love it to death
Though I will concede that yeah, in general it went into a decline.
At the Mountains of Madness?
nobody listens to you about anything
Don't get me wrong I dig Lovecraft
Just not that story
"We saw more weird shit in the ice today. Stuff broke down. Nothing is going right."
You are damn right there. It's a shame it is on at obscure times here in the UK. Like 11pm on some digital channel.
Man that is one of the best ones.
And I read all of Charles Dexter Ward and liked it
But Mountains of Madness made me want to slap a bitch
mainly for John Noble and Lance Reddick
I'm not so sold on the blonde and Pacey from Dawson's Creek
You shut up Deano is my bishi.
Also
This shit is bananas
Just the opening sequence had me going WHAAAAA
I want their car.

We got our priorities right with this show.

My friends all said it was stupid and then I showed them the episode with the website that created the ghost in the house.
The line "Seriously, man. WWBD? What would Buffy do?" was what sold them.

"Dude...she's stronger than I am."
"Seriously, man. WWBD? What would Buffy do?"--a line like that forces me to change the channel. I hate that shit.

it was used ironically, you turd. by very stereotypical geek paranormal investigators, who aren't the main characters.
