I've known guys deployed who were able to game, still. Is there something special about Egypt? I know that in Iraq and Afghanistan it's not possible, but you're probably going to be on a base deployment aren't you?

Some of the time. Problem is I don't have a laptop that can really run WAR nearly as well as my desktop(although thats easily fixed when Im gettin paid). Most of the time, though, I'm out on a point in the middle of the desert with no internet connection.

Exactly, i used to play WoW all the time, till I played WAR. And my work schedule was just recenlty changed to where i cant raid, so whats the point of playing WoW?
I really don't like questing in this game, honestly, after a while.
And when there's no PvP happening, I'm not really enjoying myself---at least on my shaman, that is.
And even when PvP is going on, it's not very enjoyable if you get steamrolled. I'm not really sure why I've suddenly changed my mind on this front. Maybe I'm just sleepy.
When you find yourself losing hart and griping where once there was nothing to be griped, it means you're hungry, thirsty or tired. Or that the game started to suck all of a sudden.

This was my exact experience towards the end of the OB. The quests all started to blur together and never really were the best part about this game, and then whenever I'd try to play Scenarios our side was getting utterly steamrolled which was sincerely not fun.
It was even less fun that, while getting steamrolled, I didn't feel like my character was doing what I was telling it to do via my keypresses. Was a really dark end to what had generally been an enjoyable experience in WAR. I'm hoping that the headstart will be better again, with TSM rollin' together and doin' stuff.
I still haven't really felt this problem with responsiveness people claim, but that may simply be because I was inoculated by the black orc. When your core abilities can only be used every other hit at the earliest, being able to fire them off at any time while playing another class feels like the greatest of luxuries.
Maybe you folks don't spam the ever loving hell out of your buttons? I was forever soothed by the frantic beeping of my action bar.

It might just be because you knew your characters were just going to be wiped so after PW + OB you started to get tired of the whole reroll thing.
Not saying that's what it is. Just saying it could be. When OB started I still played but I didn't really feel like putting in any huge time investment again leveling somthing that would not have an effect a week later.

I don't think I've enjoyed MMO questing since I finished the first 40 or so levels on my first WoW character, so I agree with that part, but it doesn't matter to me.
PvP is and always will be an experience that varies from day to day. That's just the inevitability of what is effectively player-created content. You just have to remember that while the bad days will be bad, the good days will be awesome. (They'll also get more common the closer you get to 40).
Will the game, perhaps your Tome, keep a record of your crafting experimentation so you have a log of what works and what doesn't?
Are talismans permanently attached to armor and weapons, or can they be recovered?
From what I've seen on VN / WA, the Tome does not keep track of crafting experimentation.
Talismans, I don't know - most of the starting game talismans are short duration (8 hours of game play, 2 days of game play, etc). I know there are permanent talismans at R40 - my guess is, they are one-use only.

I'm with you. I don't really get the responsiveness complaints, but I started as a Swordsmaster and button spam like a madman.
There was a feature in the user options that allows you to queue up a command at any time during global cooldown, which I found once or twice turned itself back on during beta. It lets you save on the button mashing but it's too easy to make a mistake and have your character screw something up on autopilot. Maybe that's the problem you guys were having. Combat responsiveness only improved over OB for me, it was almost on par with WoW by the time it was over.

I do try spamming buttons, but there generally has never felt like I have enough visual feedback that my abilities are going off. And since most classes, to be effective, require the use of multiple abilities rather than one spammed over and over again, I don't feel like I have any sense of timing that helps me to chain together different attacks.
I played a Black Orc for awhile, and it was often hard to tell what stage of 'da plan' he was on because of this UI lag. I'd see it highlighting the 2nd stage, for instance, but would hit the button for that and the ability would fail. Worse, he would start to execute the ability, get about halfway through the bar, and THEN the ability would fail.

This I think has a lot to do with things, because I consciously stopped playing my Chosen, which I think has proven to be my favorite class overall. I got him to about level 9/8 or something, just to where he was starting to really shine, but I felt like it was a waste to keep playing since everything was just going to be wiped anyways.
I tried other classes and such after this, but generally there was the overarching feeling that it was all pointless and I'm sure that didn't make me want to struggle through some of the tough nights when nothing was going right.
I'm more than willing to give it another go in the head start... gonna try to stick with just 1 or 2 guys and see what happens.

How long ago was that? That happened a lot in the first PW and somewhat early on in the OB but they've pretty much fixed it by now.
The OP and a search of the thread gave no results, is there a chosen server/side for europe PAer people?
There's a couple of guys going the EU side of things - not sure if they've got a server picked yet though. There are also a couple of EU guys (myself included) going to the US servers, so that's an option too.
Ui lag? I dunno, I largely ignored the indicators, and responsiveness was vastly improved by the end of open beta. I just timed things in my head after seeing the abilities go off while I mashed away.
A distinctive green swipe meant my stage one landed, green feet meant my stage two got the bastard, another swipe and they'd get smacked with a shield, then an overhead thwack, followed by another green swipe and green feet again, all while I danced around avoiding being stabbed in the back.
The UI just shows you what's possible, but it doesn't ensure that what you're trying will work. The trouble with melee attacks is that unless you're paying really close attention and aren't lagging, you can not afford to hit your abilities just once and pray they land. People run around, they go out of range mid swing, they get out of your cone of fire, they get snared, they snare you... The UI just kinda indicates what should be possible at that time, but it's up to you to make sure that it actually happens.

Wait, you can jump onto the US servers? Do you have to get the US version of the game?

So I have a question. I pre-ordered from the local Gamestop but they were out of pre-order boxes so I'm out on that front. I only put $5 down, so I would have no issue with abandoning that. I'm okay with waiting for live, though I do have one concern. My CD drive just shit out on my computer, so hopefully the install is either on download or DVD. So far I haven't found a client download that isn't available for people either buying it online or having it pre-ordered.
Someone mentioned Direct2Drive. Would I be able to pre-order it there now, get in on the headstart, and download it all in one go if I went that route?

Put a mostly transparent black layer behind the text.
Or a black stroke on it.

Seconded. a 1pt black stroke would do it, and if you change the text colour to white you're golden.
Also: "Let's"

I'm sure I can find a better orc to use eventually.
