Crazy Vista Error

OK I know it's probably not worth posting this here, but hey, I'm desperate.

I'm getting an error with my BITS service. It stops working as soon as it starts, or if I run anything that uses it (Windows Update, Messenger, etc.). Long story short, Microsoft has two fixes, located here.

Neither of the fixes on the page work for me. According to every other scrap of information I have found, these fixes have worked for everyone else, bar me.

So this will all be gibberish to someone who isn't intimately familiar with Vista's inner workings, but it's my hope that someone here has had this issue, or knows how to resolve it.

P.S. Those who tell me to reinstall the OS will be nuked from orbit.

Well there's only one Resolution on the page, so I don't know what you mean by "neither." There are three different ways of implementing the fix. Did you try all three?

Yeah I've tried everything on that page. There's 4 solutions in total; three manual ways and one executable that does it for you. I'm aware that all 4 basically do the same thing, but y'know. Persistence vs Resistance and all that.

Did you do them in safe-mode?

Actually I spent all day looking around the interwebs for a solution, found a billion ones, none of them worked (including the exe MS specifically gives out for this problem) so I'm just gonna reinstall the OS. Problem solved.
