I'm going to do the same thing I always do and just go to a local gamestop to reserve it. I want to have it in my hands on midnight for the day of release. I'll gladly sit in line a couple of hours in order to avoid the stress of wondering if the mail is going to arrive or not.

Preorders are for chumps. When I got my Burning Crusade CE, I went to Wal-Mart around 12:15 am, stood in line, and there were still plenty left by the time I got to the register.
But by preordering, I can avoid having to stand inside a smelly Wal-Mart to wait in line behind a bunch of mullet-sporting NASCAR fans trying to buy themselves a 30 pack of Bud so's theys can babysit the young'ns.

I went to the midnight launch of TBC at my local ebgames. It was a hilarious experience I'll always remember.
The store normally closes at 8 or 9 that night, and they did as usual, and reopened the store at 12. So there was a line up of about 50 people out the door.
I, of course, had a pre-order receipt for the CE. I showed up at about 11:55 and move to the back of the line which was quite long by this point, but only had to wait a few moments before they opened the store and allowed us all inside.
Here's where things got funny for me. The manager at the store announced that they only had 3 CEs, and because of that they'd be dealing with the people who pre-ordered those first. And while almost everyone in the store wanted a CE, myself and one other guy were the only two who actually pre-ordered a CE, instead of just the regular edition. So I got bumped to the front of the line, and got my CE while a good 50 people stared daggers at me, the guy who just got there, and was the first to leave with a CE.
Last time, I just swung by Future Shop after work and there were tons. This time though, I'm more worried about keeping up with the hardcore element in my guild, since it looks like 10-man slots will be a lot more competitive this time around, and being behind the curve and not instancing with people on the way up could seriously hurt my chances. So, I'm thinking about pre-ordering, just to be sure (and taking the Thursday and Friday off work).

Well, notice I rolled in after midnight, the line went pretty quickly from there, like 5-10 minutes tops, and WoW nerds had pretty well taken over the back of the store by that point, so the mullet crowd was keeping their distance. Point is, I can't think of a single game that I've been obsessed over enough to get on release night that I haven't also been able to grab off the shelf at Best Buy or Wal-Mart.

I remember Fry's Electronics having a ton of CEs after launch for TBC, but I don't want to take that chance. I'm just going to preorder it at a gamestop and pick it up that morning. I'll be off that day and the next three after it anyway.

While clinging to their bitter guns and prayin' to Jesus, no doubt.
Does Wal-Mart even have midnight openings for these sales? My brother recently found an old flyer advertising the January 16th, 2007, 12 a.m. Burning Crusade launch premiere at GameStop and EB, and I've already got a preorder in at GameStop for WotLK. This will actually be the first WoW release I'm going to be at home for and don't have to wait for mail-order.

Super WalMarts are always open... with their low low prices and savings. Go to walmart now, walmart is your friend, you love walmart and walmart loves you. Now go kill this goat.

Not sure about where you live, but every Wal-Mart I know of around me is open 24 hours anyhow. They just stack the product up in shopping carts by the electronics register and start selling it at midnight.
I preordered BC, even made plenty of calls to make sure that it would ship launch day and be at my house the day after.
no such luck.
After about 5 days of waiting and best buy saying that they had shipped it, and then saying it hadn't been paid for, and then saying that the previous two conversations had never taken place. I don't think that those first two people even did anything, just said that they did.
After giving up I went over to walmart, grabbed two copies, went through the self checkout and was out in 5 minutes. Soooo much easier.
I don't get the stigma behind going to walmart. they want to sell you shit, and you want to buy the shit. Gamestop and EB want you to line up all through the mall right next to the cinnabon that you cant go to because you will lose your spot, servicing one person at a time letting 4 in the store at any given moment. Just because walmart isnt a 'gamer store' means you can't buy games there. And walmart isn't any less 'evil' than Gamestop and best buy, they all have dubious policies and shifty employees.

They do. They are usually open until after midnight anyway (the one here never closes)

Scary bad flashbacks.
I used to work at walmart when I was 16, if you worked during the day the had like this morning pre-shift meeting where they would talk about stock and new products and other nonsense that most 16 year olds could care less about. At the end of the meeting, you'd end up chanting "wal-mart, wal'mart, wal-mart...."
Hoping I can really geek out with this release and get a few mates to crowd around outside our local gamestation or HMV for a midnight release. Asda don't normal... entertain idea's of midnight releases specifically for games. But I think I'll ask around.
And its a 30 minute walk from my place to town. Weak.

I'm not really impressed with what I've seen of Inscription so far. The intention, I thought, was for the glyphs to augment some classes skills with different effects (knockback or stun on a fireball, health regen on melee, whatever), and instead they're mostly just reductions in ability cooldowns or increases in range/damage. Boo-urns.
Also, does anyone know if they've implemented the 'enchanters being able to sell their enchants' in the beta? I haven't heard anything about it since the beta started.
Uh, the druid glyphs for sure are pretty amazing, and I think the mage ones too. Death Knights seem to have a few choice ones, like the obliterate glyph, which seems like it could have very significant playstyle changes(no more need to apply diseases).
I'd like to know how green/blue/purple recipes overlap onto major/minor inscription slots.

Well there are some fun looking ones, like the 'polymorph: penguin' glyph, and I guess that's what I expected to see more of. Glyphs that add additional functionality to abilities and not just 'extend the duration of 'x' ability by 3 seconds' or 'increases range of 'x' ability by 5 yards'.
Edit: Oh I know they're not finalized or anything, I'm just saying that I don't care for much of what's there so far. Hopefully they'll make some changes/additions to make them more appealing for all classes in the future.
Rogues sprinting on water looks like fun. Here comes the *human rogue, Backstabjesus!
And should I be able to assume WotLK will have online account upgrading and downloading available? Right away? I don't need the CE nor do I require discs.
EDIT:

Yeah, the rogue water sprint one looks fun at first, but honestly I don't know how much use you'd get out of it.
Pre-ordered the CE at lunch just now. I thought it would be more expensive, I remember TBC being like $90, WotLK was only ~$70. I guess the that's the Canadian Dollar this time around.
RE: Enchanting on the AH. Last I heard (and this was a few weeks ago) the items for it were in -- and created by inscription -- but they weren't technically working yet. Again, this was a few weeks ago.
RE: Buying at WalMart vs Preordering. Mark me down as another person who just walked into the neighborhood WalMart, bought my copy, and was at home installing it in less than an hour while my friend who preordered it didn't get it for 2 days.

I work at a walmart and I get paid to get beyond bored while stocking hot dogs, lunch meat and breakfast meats then onto chips, popcorn, tea, soda pop/coke/whatever you want to call it
I find it funny I goof around at work and still get done with all of that when the one my current supervisor prefers can barely do the chips/coke area in the 8 hours

They put out spore at about 1 to 2 am so I hope they put Warhammer out at that time Thursday morning because I get paid and might pick that up at lunch run home and think about clocking back in
It will be interesting on the 13th when Wrath comes out will my brother or I be able to get collecter's editions and will I forgo the rest of the day?
I went around town and asked about preordering it and was bascilly turned away

Pre-Ordering is to get it as soon as possible. Because let's face it. There's little to no chance that you will not walk into a store and be able to buy the World of Warcraft expansion.
Except EBStop because they have this weird thing against selling you a game that you didn't reserve.
