Motorstorm Pacific Rift -- It's Out

edit: Couldn't find an official thread after searching so bumping this one to see if anyone else is playing the retail title. I'm considering picking this up tonight

Just finished playing around with the demo. The game seems like alot of fun, although to be honest I really enjoyed the PURE demo alot more. PURE's trick system reminded me of Surf's Up! (awesome budget title).

Motorstorm Pacific Rift has pretty nice graphics though. I tried out all three classes and found the motorcycle to be vastly superior to the truck classes in every area -- speed and handling.

Anyone else tried the demo yet? Impressions?

I'm not a Qore subscriber so I'm looking forward to any comments in this thread. I enjoyed the first Motorstorm quite a bit.

Bamelin, you said you found the motorcycle superior in the demo so I'm wondering if there are multiple routes to complete a level like there was in the first Motorstorm. Like how the big rigs were better in the lower muddy levels and the bikes were better taking the top route.

In all honesty the track seemed very basic ... I have a feeling it's not very representative of the full product. I was hoping to see the lush vegetation or volcanic activity from the trailers but the map in demo didn't look as good. From what I've heard (I never played the first mtorstorm) the overall speed has increased from the first game. I believe that the game still needs to be polished, however I felt it still looked good.

On the demo level motorcycles dominate. There are a bunch of jumps that give massive airtime as well, and I believe there are a couple shortcuts. A couple areas have different routes, I need to experiment more. All I know though is that with the bike I was coming in around 4th, with trucks I was coming in 16th.

So it's out ... Do we have an official thread for this game? I did a search but came up with nadda.

Is anyone actually playing it? From what I've heard it's really good, (if you liked the first one you'll probaly like this one)

There's a reason why the demo was shit, it was a pretty old build. Play it, then look at newly released pictures/video of Motorstorm 2 and there's a world of difference.

Some moron at Sony obviously didn't think a crappy demo would reflect poorly on the game, when it really does. Whoever did it should be fired.

I found the demo to be basically Motorstorm 1 polished to a blinding shine, which is good as I really enjoyed the 1st, if the full game is even better then well... thats even better!

Sadly I will have to wait 'till at least January to buy it as its out the same day as GOW2 here, with L4D and Resistance 2 taking all my moneys 'till christmas.

So... how is the MONSTER TRUCK? :)

I really liked the first one. As others have said, I'll also probably pick this up a bit later, there are just so many games out atm. If someone else doesn't revive this thread in a few months, expect me to.

I really enjoyed the demo although, and silly that it is, the one thing that really bugged me was THE FUCKING BIKE FLOATS. It's not sat on the ground, you can clearly see it! I hope they sorted that out for the final thing.

Other than that I really loved the first one and thoroughly enjoyed the demo of the second. I think I'll be getting this after Xmas, as folks have said there's too many awesome games at the moment to consider picking this up.

And yep the demo is definitely old, it's identical to the build I played at Leeds festival in August. It's even still possible to come 0th (instead of 1st) in two player.

I enjoy the bikes because, in an all bike race, it's the closest thing I've played to Road Rash in a while (Hit "X" and punch the guy next to you off his bike!).

The first Motorstorm looked like a mountain of shit, I mean literally. It was the pack-in title for my PS3 and was the first console game I've traded in, ever.

    But Pacific Rift..... has color.

It makes all the difference in the world. I actually enjoyed the rift demo and plan to buy the full game whereas, between the shit-colored graphics, and the ear-crucifying soundtrack, playing the first one made me seethe with anger. I was determined to give it a fair chance to see what the hell all the critics were raving about but my wife made me stop before I had a stroke. I'm serious.

Well dirt, mud, and dirt... I tend to picture "shit" colors. I'm just curious, have you ever been to a motor cross event? Because honestly, theres not a lot of color...

    motocross.JPG

edit: and if you watched the "making" of MotorStorm, looked at all the areas they flew over with helicopters and all the footage they took, I think they did a really good job matching landscaping and color pallets.

I'm damn interested in this game and will most likely trade in Midnight Club LA and maybe Bad Company to lop some dollars off it. Played the first a lot but yeah, got tired of the tracks looking and playing fairly samey.

Even though its likely to be just as shallow a racer as the original, that's seriously all I'm looking for. I have Gran Turismo and Wipeout for precise racing and nailing those time trials, Motorstorm for me is just about thrashing a vehicle around a dirty track and scraping for position.

    Should be bloody good :)

For the record, the full game is far FAR superior to the demo. The demo was a really early build.

I found the demo to play really, really badly. Horrible controls. I was tempted by the game until I tried the demo. Looks like I'll have to find someone who owns the game and try it there to see if I'll like the finished product.. I was kinda glad it was bad so I didn't have to spend money on it, but now it might actually be good?

Sooooo, this game got pretty much zero attention on here. Anyone still playing?

If so then there's a photocomp going on at the moment where you win...well...pretty much nothing. Your chance to have your pic in the game on one of the loading screens and a Motorstorm T-Shirt.

Still, it's a good idea to get everyone playing again.

Ive been considering getting this. I played the demo a while back and had a blast, but I didnt feel like paying 60$ for it. I dont have my PS3 with me but when I get it back ill get this for 30$ or so If I can. I need a fix on a racing game, as the last one I played was F-Zero on the Game Cube.

It's very good fun, I'm getting a bit stuck now though on the single player. My skills aren't quite good enough to get the number of points I need to get to the next rank.

It's nice and cheap now though and I'd definitely recommend picking it up if you're after an arcade racer.

Was nice of them to only include North America and Europe in that competition, I've got some nice photos to submit damnit :(

I actually just finished (by that I mean, gained enough points to get past level 8 ) about a week ago. And let me say this about the ending...
BOOOOOOOO!! Give me something anything besides just the damn credits! How about some skins? How hard would they be to create? Or atleast a trophy :(

Still, its one of the best, if not the best, arcade racer I've played since Burnout 3. Incredible game :) The vehicles are so well balanced I don't even really have a favourite type. I'd say the vehicle I like the least is the ATV. Handles like a pig and isn't fast at all.

It certainly makes for some spectacularly brutal crashes though, so yeah even my least-liked thing about the game has some good points.

Teeman: I doubt they're going to be that picky about region, I'd send them in anyway. You might not end up getting the t-shirt if you won but you'd no doubt get your snaps on the loading screen.

I don't think I've seen you online playing this, we should have a game sometime. Although if you've finished it you'll no doubt hammer me! I'm currently struggling to get through an All ATV race. I either roll over on to my side or come in about 6th.

Yeah I like this game its a great arcade racer, I just have other things taking my attention. The problem is the other two racers I like, Burnout and Wipeout are accessible from my XMB, so when I want a quick racing fix I usually go there. (In between games of Killzone 2 and RE5) Once I finish getting all golds in the Wipeout Campaign I'm sure I'll put more time into this. (Not too far off. I've already gotten all the golds in the harder campaigns, I'm just making my way through the earlier ones.)

Regular Burnout Paradise is $20 off psn, go with that. The Ultimate box is only worth it if you think you are going to use the take-turns-pass-the-pad-local-multiplayer. (If I want a local multiplayer race I'll put in Motorstorm 2)
