So, I'd like to get a security/web cam, but I have some specific desires for it. Basically, this will be looking out a window (for a "weather cam"-type of thing - no, not to spy on the neighbors
). It will likely be in a fixed position, so no need for crazy mounts or motors to move it (e.g. no PTZ required)
Requirements:
Auto White-balance (It's looking out a window, so it needs to adjust for varying light)
Decent resolution (at least 800x600)
"Snap-shot" capability (I'm guessing most, if not all, have this)
Like-to-have (the bigger list):
If possible, I'd like to have a network attached camera, rather than USB, with the ability to take regular snaps and FTP images. It would NOT have to be PoE, as it would be placed near an electrical outlet.
If it's USB, it would be nice if it can work with multiple apps - i.e. it can require a special driver, but I shouldn't need to load special software for it to work properly.
Budget? I'm thinking I could go up to $300, but obviously, if it's a USB cam, I'd expect to pay less.
Any ideas?

For just a weather cam, something in the low end of Axis's line will work. If you want to record it then use the software the comes with it. I wouldn't bother with using FTP, it's not as nice a solution as people seem to think it is.
