Game theme is MMORPG plain clothes fantasy. Very character centric, with simple (hopefully) gameplay.
Bring your own d10s. Campaign setting decided once players get together. But basically, there is
Server Wars Players participate in a server space's rise to power with Other Players in hopes of establishing a world order in the Etha. Action filled with character-centric plots and obstaclesTreatment Sessions Players enter in the game's first stages of creation in a classic RPG setting to put order in a shattered world or perhaps master it. Heavy in Exploration and character building. Epic elements are also naturally occuring.and an option of Metagaming. A game about playing a game- but who the hell is that knocking at the door ? Psychological plainclothes modern day gaming mixes with simulated fantasy to figure why everyone at school is starting to fall into comas more and more.
augh, more stuff to type-
Players can assume the roles of an average modern day persona or recess into their assumed identity in the Etha broken down to six archetypes with the chance of tailoring them towards their character further in the game.
Classes
SQUIRES: Str/End
: They're your corporeal fighters. They stab whats in front of them, and deal with whats in front of them. Very direct and practical combat types that wear thicker armor if shit gets tough or wields bigger swords if theirs aint cutting it.
ESPERS: Emp/Will
: Have a great awareness of what's around them and the forces that dictate the universe right down to it's creatures. While some deem it as sorcery, it strikes them as a more elevated form of common sense. However as far as sense goes it kind of stops there as they are too indirect with themselves as a result of constantly engineering these forces to work for them.
VAGRANTS (Monk): Str/Will
: Balanced fighters. Using their bodies and their mind to elevate to a higher state of being. Disciplined Combat artists that may not specialise in one thing- but uses themselves to become a versatile component in a party. Other forms of Vagrants are wandering souls with a mission and an ideal to accomplish learning all from around them and giving back in experience and work.
SCOUTS: Emp/Tek
: ADventerous risk takers that makes it a practice to survive whatever environment they place themselves in. They play as your supportive physical combatants that sheds light on untreaded territory.
KITS: Tek/Will
Grammar school professionals that has the world aced in a test, they set out to become specialists in their field to give the party logistical support and improving their current situation with ingenuity.
HELLIONS (Thief): Spd/Tek
: Call them social engineers, call them acquisition agents, but dont call them a thief. If your obstacle isn't a raging river, an ether storm, a 3 headed monster, but is instead a 10 year old girl, then count on the thief to give them candy for that shiny object they found
Game setting is just about whatever- Servers are their own micro worlds that operate on different themes, from knights of magic, to special forces mecha, but eventually these can and will mesh and the fun starts when a Tripod battle tank dukes it out with a Silver Dragon. Gameplay therefore is open ended to a wider extent.

The Etha and You. (by Doctor Schrodinger )
Greetings Friend,
Has listening to that prefabricated legal machine left you with enough sleep ? Don't worry, through use of the Divers, you will be getting enough of it- or none at all. For you see, using Lightfast technology- users from around the world can access, and interact with digitized information in real time using currents in their subconscious. But worry not about the effects, for it has been proven that we as a race have already been using this fantastic feat of subconscious connectivity- causing a web like realm that we commonly know today as the Etha.
The Etha, much like a computer's memory is a construct of Lightfast Technology, that connects from person to person on a common wave frequency similar to the astral leylines, and like a computer, the contents of its programming is changing dynamically through its use. Imagine if you will, a blank piece of paper, and everyone was to write on it.
Now imagine that someone has written a world on it, with rules that closely simulate our own but can be changed or broken at your will. This world, is the Etha- a dynamic environment shaped consciously and subconsciously by our will. Now most of you would ask, what would you do with a world where therein lies a lucid clarity of your actions, a fantasy wold that feels real ? Surely, you must be as skeptic as I was about such a useless concept. But contrary to popular belief- Dream Diving was first used as a vehichle for Interactive Treatment, in which patients with incurable or unmanageable maladies managed to find light in themselves through the self reflections of this experience.
So now, the approaches of Interactive Treatment have evolved to this day- where everyone participates on a massively multiplayer group therapy in which you are given the opportunity to assert yourself in a world similar your current one in hopes that getting lost in it will help you find yourself.
Now know, that inside the realms of the Etha, is a world that has already started and evolved as we speak, and within those worlds are the commonly known servers where players like you can interact with others as well as the simulated life that is resident in the Etha. So without further ado, please activate your Diver, place it in close proximity to your person and situate yourself in a relaxed posi >>>>
You have now begun Diving, please don't make any sudden movements while your regional server loads.....

It has been Clandestein's 3rd year anniversary since its establishment as an independent "Game Server" and is still growing. To those joining us today this is Loadtime EthernetCast episode the 112th- joining us today is Etha Netgaming Analyst Leroy J. Enkins.
LJ:Hi.
So Leeeroy, glad to have you here today; Clandestein since its establishment as a server made many a child bright eyed and cheery when for the first time a group of experimental game designers touched beach in the Realms of the Etha and have effectively converted an otherwise dream simulation into an immersive, progressive game environment that is ironically spurring global change within the Diver society and the many servers around.
LJ: Well I dont think it's at all ironic, When players play a game, they feel a need to accomplish something within an established universe even if it consisted of menial tasks. In the Etha, divers are constantly challenged with some random obstacle making their experiences a bit more difficult than what they face in real life. But to players, they see this challenge as an ingame phenomenon and this constant stream of challenges and victories empower them much in the same way that Interactive Treatment patients have overcome their afflictions back in the day.
I see, so is that why other "game" servers have started up elsewhere ? With goal oriented environments ? What would you think is the reason behind this new trend ?
LJ: Since the successes of players coming from Clandestein have reached other areas of the Etha ,a Witch that Flies on an Anti Tank Rifle, A boy that talks to a Kraken, and a school student that has ruled a kingdom- there is no doubt that people who have heard and witnessed this were either inspired or charmed by such a collection of accomplished people. For a lot of reasons, this is the stuff dreams are made of and folks with their own servers will want to cash in on this, BAD. But other folks, simply wish to create something THAT good on the sheer principle of it- for this reason a good range of "game" servers have developed.
From what you say, there seems to be a good range of intentions to make a game server, from corporate cash-ins , to a simple good time among friends. I hear even that there are still classical interactive treatments going on and around in private clinics. So tell me, what kind of "games" are there in the Etha.
LJ: Well for starters, there are three known types of "play" each one categorized by its goal, number players, levels of interaction with divers if there are any at all, session times, or even- the stability of the server's reality.
Let's begin with the classical format of the Interactive Treatment- since the groundwork of the game's algorithm was first built around the individual patient and their cases.
LJ: Right, In Treatment servers; games are treated more like sessions and the main focus of these sessions is to allow for users to overcome the challenges of their character. These things are very specific to the individual or individuals playing- as parables of their problems soon begin to arise in game until they are left with dealing with their ultimate problem. For example, a boy with an irrational fear for spiders might have had a traumatic experience that he forced himself to forget- and spiders are what resulted from these fragments of memories. I've seen compelling cases where people came out of the game as changed people , waving goodbye to their simulated schemas and returning to their normal lives- content to never play the game again. For this reason, not many big businesses opt for this format, but private clinics and organizations from all over have carried on the tradition and has refined it to this day.
That seems like a lot of work for the game designers for just one person-
LJ: Actually that isn't the case most of the time, since half the content have more to do with the player simply thinking it up, even if they are not aware of it. Other times , the game simply "reads" into you and translates this information back to you in subtle ways.
While normally you dont see that level of malleability in other games , do you ?
LJ: Right, which brings me to a completely different style of "gameplay" called Server Wars.
Server Wars?
LJ: Server Wars, it sounds exactly that. Users are thrown into a more populated center of the Etha that is open to interaction with many Divers, and Simulates alike. This bonafied fantasy world while still retaining levels of game to player interaction, is ultimately ruled by the server administration. Think of it as a Kingdom each one having their respective Kings. And like all Kingdoms, they all have their share of problems that toll for their greatness. In Server Wars, there is a very open interaction with other Servers, in fact the World of Server Wars is something like an international stage. However, you as a player start out as a simple wanderer of this server, usually fighting for your survival at first, but once you take care of that you feel compelled to assert yourself even further in this chaotic world, perhaps taking on odd jobs, doing good deeds for the simulates or even bearing down on them with an iron fist, your actions containing weight and consequence to your universe, much like how other servers are affecting your day to day lifestyle. Eventually you will be participating in skirmishes with your unit, fighting in unfavorable odds and massive battles since the community in these servers support soldiering and civilization building. In here, the challenges are character based- since there are many players- affecting many variables in issues and conflicts.
LJ: And from this of course, came another style of play, that many players can really identify with most adventure games: Trouble Shooting. Now the player count here is usually smaller as units break off into smaller teams -or independently formed parties just occur. And for whatever reason or another (usually getting paid), they beat off to explore the deeper depths of the Etha -visiting simulate societies untouched by divers. It gives players a sense of adventure and elements from the aforementioned two begin to develop here in a unique mixture. Sessions in these adventures are more episodic since not much happens in the party's absence save for the progression of natural occurences.
LJ: On the other hand, there has been a new breed of gaming- and due to the nature of the Etha as a filtered simulation of reality- People have been blurring the line between the Real and the Game and intermixing their sessions in both. We call this Metagaming- and depending on how you use it, it could be really serious- or it could be very liberating for your daily life. I hear that private investigators have been using this as a way to get leads on their cases, teachers are tapping this to work further with their students , and students haha well they're much more knowledgeable about this actually. It's a 2 sided world for them and it's quite a scary thought personally how the two are meshing together.
Well luckily we wont have monsters from the Game spilling out over here right ?
LJ: . . . .... . . .
AH Well look we're almost out of time Thank you again Mr. Jenkins for putting everything in perspective for us - ah and those of you n00bs out there who have been listening to this- There is NO load time: OPEN YOUR EYES !
