Turning Internal to External: HD Edition

So I think I need to get a new laptop HD, and probably a new install of Windows while I'm at it.

So, a few questions:

A) Is 7200 the fastest laptop HD you can buy? If not, is there any point to getting a faster one? It's mostly for school work hahaha just kidding I generally play things and browse the internet on it.

B) My current HD is like 80ish gigs, which is terrible. How much would a USB enclosure be for it? I'd be willing to spend a bit just to ease the transfer of files.

C) Speaking of, how easy is it to retrieve files from an HD with a windows installation on it if you're booting from a different Windows installation? I might be going with Vista this time, if that matters.

D) Are any brands of hard drives particularly better than others?

E) Is it hard drive, harddrive, or hard-drive?

    A) Yes, and if you're gaming a 7200rpm with big cache will help. It may increase heat output marginally and/or power demand though.

    B)How's seven bucks grab you?

    C) Stupid easy. Your external drive will show up as D most likely, just drag-and-drop.

    D) I admit I'm not up to snuff on laptop HDDs, since I generally just "run what I brung" when it comes to portables.

    E) HDD = Hard Disk Drive

Seagate and WD are good, Samsung is generally pretty bad.

I have yet to see a Samsung drive in any computer I've owned last longer than a year.

An important point when ordering your new hard drive enclosure: check the interface on the enclosure before you purchase. The info wasn't very obvious on the page and I ended up ordering IDE when I needed SATA. RMAing it back to NewEgg cost almost as much as the item did.
