The game also boasts an incredible draw distance, something you will see first hand the first time you go over a massive jump. Go download the demo and you’ll see what I mean. The full retail product looks even better.

    Really?

There was some slight tearing issues in the demo that are gone now. Also the full game has alot of new (and in my opinion really good looking) areas that you don't get to see in the demo.

Reminds me a lot of excite truck, but with actual stunts instead of just high flying and trying to get the occasional spin.

Couple questions for those who own it:

Does it get fast? I'm sure it gets faster than the starter bike in the demo, but does it get fast?
Has it gotten boring/repetitive? I'm finding myself easily bored by games recently but I love racing games and I loved me some SSX back in the day so this looks promising.
Not really getting the strategy in terms of using boost vs. saving up for better tricks. This mechanic actually annoys me a bit - it seems like your "trick bar" should be separate from your boost and should only go down if you wreck or slow way down or do something else "lame."
What's better: holding a trick or doing multiple tricks in one jump?

You start the game with a Class D engine and move up to Class A as you clear circuits in the World Cup Event. Things get alot faster.

Not sure though what class engine is used in the demo.

Trick and nitro are tied together. Once you have your nitro bar fully charged there is alot of room to use nitro before you start loosing your high end tricks. Also if you crash or wreck, you lose BOTH nitro and tricks (usually goes down one level at least).

The reason for having them tied together is to force you to strategize nitro usage versus the penalities of losing your high end tricks ... alot of the time you will be nitroing, letting go at the last moment praying you don't lose that crucial high end trick you want to use at the next jump ... better tricks net more nitro as does chaining tricks together.

I don't get why they have to go and make every damn racing game an arcade style affair. Nitro boosts? Really? Why can't anyone make a dirtbike/atv simulator? (except for mxsim which is pretty awful for now)

Tricks are supposed to be hard to pull off, requiring some effort to get right. Speed is supposed to come from picking the right lines, staying low over jumps but still clearing the smoothly and railing curves. MvA Unleashed tried to get it right with scrubs and the dirt rutting up but it's still an arcade racer, not a simulation and it has such huge flaws that its predecessor for the ps2 was even better.

    Ba-dump-a-BUMP

I just read the positively glowing Eurogamer review and I'm really interested in grabbing this as soon as it rolls around on Goozex. It reaffirms the suspicions I had about the game being fun.

I tried the 360 demo, fucking fantastic. It's almost euphoric when I get to that massive jump in the Italy stage. The fact there's another in succession just makes it all the more sweeter, especially doing those special tricks :^:

Will probably get this for the PC, seeing as it's £5 cheaper there.

[edit] fuck, it's actually even cheaper. £18 delivered. C'mon Brits, support our developers! (Black Rock are in Brighton :D)

I saw a commercial for this last night and it looked cool, reminded me of Motocross Madness 2 which I used to play a ton. So I have some questions for those who own it, and hopefully others have played MM2 and know what I'm talking about. Is there a free roam mode? I don't mean timed, or having to pull tricks off for fuel. Is there a mode where its just me, the level and infinite time? Can I have AI driving around in this as well (ala MM2)?

Does it have split-screen multi player?

For those who have played MM2, how close is this? I loved the sense of freedom, trying to pull off weird tricks and my own set goals (driving on top of a train, hitting a plane in midair, driving up the level border mountains to get launched like a cannon back into the level)?

I think I'll go reinstall MM2 while I'm downloading the demo...

Also, I have both a 360 and a PS3. I generally prefer the 360 for the Controller/LIVE/Achievements, though the PS3 is quieter, less prone to breaking, and have the motion controls (which I generally hate *glares at dusty Wii*). How are the motion controls for the PS3? I don't want to turn with them or accelerate, but it would be cool it you could control the driver's lean on the ground and midair with it.

I'll probably get the demo for the PS3, but I'm at work and can't do that until much later. So, 360 or PS3 for purchase, provided I like it enough to buy?

This is without a doubt my Game of the Year how can it not be? Pure makes me want to slam my dick in a car door over and over and over again and I can't stop doing it, I won't stop it's just that good...

Pure at it's core is the pure fat that sits atop a frypan after a big fry-up of bacon and eggs after an Friday evening on the cans (Aussie for beers). It is the very best mix of Mario Kart - Tony Hawk - F Zero - Trials 2 - GRID - Project Gotham and a bit of Wave Race thrown in just because. I don't mention specific games in a series for MK and TH because Pure somehow has managed to scalpel off just the bits that are sexy from each of the classics in the racer > trick genre.

It looks stunning. So much so that you will drive past track sections thinking they are background. There is lots of paths and up close detail is to be gobsmacked by. Bail on the top of a hill and notice the rocks jutting out of what would normally be a flat surface? Unneeded but much appreciated the game sure is a looker!

The game play is fun and addictive with quick restarts, insane tricks out the ass, nitro boosts, flips and item pickups depending on class. Each class is distinct and fun experience the Sprints will give you one or two advanced trick opportunity's per lap (if you are lucky) and the freestyle comps will see you Special Moving while under jet powered (the sound during extended nitro boost is incredible) nitro boost with a combo multiplier timer ala Drift in Grid another fine racer in this new modern age of 4 Letter racers. DIRT, GRID, PURE and FUEL (2009) if your racer has more than four letters it's over compensating :)

The custom ATV creator is fun and long enough not to be boring or super simmy (yuk) and controlling the game with an X360 controller (under vista) is a breeze with all menus controller friendly you can couch sit not be hunched over your PC.

Online is bliss with options aplenty the first of only 2 issues I have with PurePC is no local split screen multi. But what PC game has that?

My second issue with Pure is the FUCKING HUUUUUGE loading times. It's like having your own Jessica Alba bedroom slave but getting "on the job" requires a 5 minute sit around and twiddle your thumbs. It is cruel and I want a patch NOW this PC loading time issue needs to be addressed.

From double clicking the desktop icon to actual game play (skipping all cutscences by pressing A) it takes 5 - 6 minutes to get to a race from startup with 3 - 5 minutes between race end and the main menu / next race. That is too long it is criminal!

I have a 9870X2 and an E8500 with 4GB of ram and during the Pure intro loading I can alt tab start Crysis Warhead (which logs into steam checks net connection) shows INTEL and NVIDIA SPLASH start a game and load the entire Warhead map start playing then alt tab back to a still loading Pure. Fuck you Disney!

The game uses 5-10% of processor and 40% and once loaded runs rock solid at 60FPS at 19X12 but that still does not forgive the load times. I am considering picking it up on 360 or PS3 if they don't have the loading times issue (can anyone confirm?)

So +1 to awesome from me this is the best game that combines Mario Kart and Tony Hawk I have played ever just be prepared to rage and slam your manhood in a car door during the huge waits to immense fun.

Pure it's natural selection at work, only the sickest survive! :winky:

*EDIT* After some gamefaqs search apparently I am not alone in thinking that Pure could be called "Pure Loading"

    But I just found this 7 - 14 seconds far better than 5 - 6 minutes!

"Turn Vsync off! I heard there is some kind of bug in pure which involves your fps. Force it off in the Nvidia / ATI control panel and you'll have no problems with the loading times anymore"
