7th Dragon - Skies of Arcadia Producer + Etrian Odyssey director & s. composer
The teased game currently has no revealed title or details, simply a teaser site featuring pink flowers and a dragon cut-out, along with the words "We are making RPG now!" which is like, some kind of awesome statement in and of itself.
The game is reportedly being headed up by Rieko Kodama as producer (most recently notable for her work on Skies of Arcadia), with Kazuya Niino and Yuzo Koshiro of Etrian Odyssey prestige (the director and sound composer, respectively), and Mota as character designer (I'm not sure what else he/she has worked on in the past, but his/her personal site's artwork displays a good amount of pixel artwork).
Definitely some big names involved.
More info (from RPGFan):
"Last week we reported on Sega announcing a new RPG directed by Etrian Odyssey mastermind Kazuya Niinou. Today, the company shed some more light on the mysterious title. Titled 7th Dragon, the Nintendo DS title tasks players with slaying powerful dragons. Unless the protagonist manages to destroy them, the fiery beasts that already rule over 80% of the game's world will wipe out mankind. An active party in 7th Dragon consists of up to four members. Battles are going to be command-based. The developers are implementing seven different character classes (rogue, mage, fighter, princess, knight, samurai, and healer), with each class having four different appearances. Skills are acquired via skill trees."
I have no idea what the fuck Sakura Taisen is. Thankfully.
Prepare to be informed!
Sakura Taisen is a very popular RPG franchise in Japan, but never really caught on in the US and/or they decided not to bring most of the games over. I believe 4 main games were produced (3rd one was for Dreamcast that I remember), and there is a 26ep anime as well.
Gist of the franchise: A group of pretty women fight evil in 1900ish Japan with steam-mecha powered by spiritual energy. They run an opera group as a front.

I'm pretty sure none of the Sakura Taisen games have ever been brought over. And calling it an RPG is a bit of a stretch; it's more of a dating sim broken up by simple giant robot Strategy/RPG fights.

There's a hilarious LP of the series going on right now on the Something Awful forums. Think turn based strategy along with dating sim elements. The series does look pretty interesting.

Can anyone identify the people working on the game in the intro? Also, I wonder if this is a DS game or something, considering the music.

They've never really seemed that great. I'd seen the anime before I ever knew there was a game, and I was pretty disappointed by what the game turned out to be. I hadn't played them personally, but there is ample enough information online, including videos and complete strategy guides.
The dating sim is the bulk of it, not the SRPG. RainbowDespair's "And calling it an RPG is a bit of a stretch; it's more of a dating sim broken up by simple giant robot Strategy/RPG fights." is wholly accurrate.
Some people go so far as to claim the gamut of adolescent dating sim games such as Sakura Taisen is part of what tanked the Dreamcast in Japan, by painting it the image of a lonely nerd's gaming system :P

B...but wasn't Sakura Taisen on the Dreamcast the best-selling DC game in Japan?
I mean, the Sakura Taisen games are pretty much universally terrible.

Does anyone recognize the names? If the character designer is Kousuke Fujishima, it's definitely Sakura Taisen.
That's the vibe I'm getting, at least. Still, just another one that won't come out here. I really enjoyed the Saturn ones. (It also had a PSP port including 1 & 2.)
They even had another chance when the fifth game came out, since it was about a new cast, but still, no one touched it for US release.

Found this via Google:

It would be, but Sega REALLY likes doing sequels and remakes of existing franchises. Then again, their last big new franchise was three years ago, so I suppose they are due.
I dunno about you guys, but I want a new Shining Force or Landstalker game. Now.
It's not done yet, but Sega recently announced that they're releasing a new Shining Force Strategy/RPG for the DS developed by Flight Plan (the developers behind the Japanese only Summon Night Strategy/RPGs).
I see the words "Sega" and "RPG" in the title and all sense goes out the window. The warm fuzz of nostalgia washes over me, I begin to pant, I begin to desire a game I know nothing about, I ready myself to buy it ...
... all while realizing I probably won't like it, I probably won't play it for more than an hour, and that I long since dropped games of this style from my list of games I like to play.
And I just found out that the producer of this upcoming game is not only responsible for producing Skies of Arcadia, but was also the lead designer for the original Phantasy Star game as well as a designer and the director of Phantasy Star IV. Sorry Skies fans; Skies of Arcadia was a good, even great game, but PS4 was legendary.

You've not spelled Skies of Arcadia 2 there correctly champ.

They can't give us both? :P
Website doesn't really feel thematically similar at all though baring the name and silhouette.
The jury's still out on getting either of them at all. :P
