Yeah and I have to be honest here: the game really doesn't look THAT good.
It can kinda look like a korean MMO even! I'm not saying bad,but it's definitely not "high end graphics" so I really really REALLY hope, they can optimize it A LOT, cause my PC should be able to run something like this if it can run Bioshock and other better looking games just fine.

MMOs always look of lesser quality than good single player games, or else they won't reel in as many players 'cuz of too high sys requirements. WAR also doesn't look as good as Vanguard which runs on the Unreal 3 engine (like Bioshock) or even LotRO, but it does look pretty damn good if you have the system to run it -and- force 8x AA and 8x AF in your video card's drivers (not the in-game settings).

Lucky Cynic posted this pic in the recent screenshot thread and it looks hawt. If you click the above link, s3rial one posted some scenery pics that look sweet, too.

So I just want to be 100% sure about this so I don't screw myself over when I pick the game up tomorrow. If I'm intending to play using game time cards I will need to buy one along with the game and activate it to access the "free" month with the game. Correct?

Not that it's too big of a deal if that's the case. I probably would have preferred to wait a month to get more time just to obfuscate the true costs to myself rather than forking over almost $200 straight up which is likely to make me feel somewhat ill.

No. You enter your box serial number on the account page, and then your free month starts ticking.

I definitely had to enter a CC.

I am reasonably confident that anyone that didn't enter CC info activated their accounts before the billing management was working, or something, because no one I know has been able to activate an account without entering CC info.

To be fair, the smartest thing to do is just enter your CC info and not buy a time card. Cancel the sub after you activate it right away and get the 30 days free and decide from there if you want to resub.

If you don't have a CC, go to a bank or something. Pretty much no excuse for that, I'm sure an eight year old kid can go into Bank of America and get a debit card.

If people with absolute high end rigs can't run this game smoothly and have lots of problems (check out the forums if you don't believe me) then this game has "pc game launch" sickness AKA poor optimization.

I remember Hellgate: London running like crap and then going to smooth as butter with just a patch on my PC.

I have hope for this too.

Runs fine on my side. It only stutters when it's loading a new area (like, logging in or using calling home). 2GB RAM, a weak-ass Core2Duo, 8800GT, 10k RPM drive.

Even though I don't have anyway near enough time to play this I'm still thinking about starting.
Would a way old 3200 AMD (939 single core) with 3 gb of ram and an 8800 GT be able to run it OK?

Also I'm probably going to play a lot with a friend and I'll assume he's either going to be a black orc or a dwarf tank because that is the way he usually rolls. I'd prefer to be a healer and the archmage type of healers who can spam heal or damage spells and use it to power up their opposite spell type sounds awesome. Would that combo work for two casual players who likes to just idle around?
What kind of classes am I looking at?

Regarding cc info at account setup, I installed and set up an account just yesterday and didn't have to enter any cc info to get started. My account listed as 'Active' after I entered the code. I don't recall this sort of thing before in an MMO but it was certainly welcome on my part. :)

I'm terrible with computers and cannot help with the first part, but on the characters you were contemplating I'll say that combo will probably work great. Tank and Healer teams work very well, and I know from experience that the Shaman (the Archmage equivalent on destruction) is pretty damn fun as well as very effective.

I have hope for this too.

Have you ever gone onto an official tech forum to post, "The game runs well and I'm enjoying it." ?

I didn't think so. The reason tech forums are filled with technical problems for any game is because that's what they are there for. This is no indication that the game doesn't run well on high-end system.

For AOC, everyone I knew couldn't run the game worth balls. It ran decently for awhile and then took a shit. Some guy from work told me for weeks that the game ran perfectly on his new laptop, but then a few weeks later he admitted he was exaggerating, and he hadn't loaded the game in a few days because it was almost unplayable.

For WAR, I know personally 6 people who have been playing it with no technical problems at all. These systems range from high-end custom to mid-range pre-builts (Dell, etc.)

There is no "PC game launch sickness" here. You're forseeing "doom and gloom" because you get poor FPS? From your previous posts, it sounds like you can barely run the game. From your posted specs, I can see why.

So I've been thinking about picking this up since I have the MMO itch again and I got to play during beta on my friend's account that works at EA and I had some fun with it..

Problem is, I don't have a dedicated gaming pc right now. I have my laptop. A latest gen Mac Book Pro, and I reboot it into vista to game (TF2 and things of that nature). I've upgraded it to 4gb and use an external monitor with it. I'm just curious if this would really be worth picking the game up now or wait till down the road I have an actual PC? Is it just going to look like shit and chug along on my Mac?

There is no way to skip the conduct agreement - Mark Jacobs had a post about it on VN that stated it was mandatory, and that there was some sort of reason that they "had to leave it up as is".

I would imagine the Mac Book Pro could run it fine if you're booting Vista with bootcamp. Using a "parallel desktop" method isn't ideal though.

I've never had a problem playing with people several levels above or below me. I'm sure there is some sort of XP penalty at some point, but I havn't noticed anything.

Really, I have so much actual fun while playing that I don't pay attention to these details like I do in other MMOs.

There's no way to level salvaging and talisman making quickly. I have five characters feeding my main talisman materials (one of the characters is an apoth/cult, so I use that one to make gold essence) and salvagable materials (greens, blues, the salvage-specific drops), and it's still barely enough to level talisman making.
