    We have one downed UFO and one landed UFO, but only three functional soldiers. You know what that means?

    TANK! Athenor gets shoved into a Desert Spirit, and the demoralized survivors from last time get thrown back into the transport. On the way out, they meet MrMonroe, Forar, and Steel Angel. Gee, three leave, three come in...we have high hopes for this mission, don't we?

    The transport lands shortly after dawn. One mercy there, at least. Athenor is first out, spotting nothing for a while. And then- oo, new type of alien. A Vipon, sort of like a very fat evolved snakeman.

    ...and its a commander. Uh-oh.

    Athenor only has enough time for a single shot. Misses by a mile.

    Everyone piles out- and ALSO misses by a mile. Raiden333 manages to shoot the tank twice in the process, fortunately doing only minor damage.

    While Raiden333 just gets shot. Fortunately the commander is using a pistol, so it doesn't hurt too badly. He's not even bleeding.

    Athenor rumbles forward a bit and takes aim.

    Despite ripping off four shots, not a one even comes close. Raiden333 is next. He darts out to where he has a clear shot, and opens fire. Four shots streak out, two hit.

    Except the one hit only did 4 points of damage, and the other sliced off into the night and hit a COMPLETELY different alien. Oh, and the return fire about sawed Lampley's arm off.

    Kedinik tosses in a grenade, but it only wounds the Vipon a bit.

    Then ALL the troopers get paralyzed and three Halluinoids lumber into view. Just as the "oh shit" is sinking in, the Vipon opens fire. Plasma fire walks across Athenor, damaging the tank but only moderately, then drifting to Lampley.

    Lampley isn't anywhere near as well armored. Lampley falls over dead.

    Athenor launches a rocket at the lower two Halluinoids, who are quite nicely bunched up.

    It streaks in and explodes right in the middle. And they both live. Then he pivots and opens fire on the nearest alien. Miss.

    Both troopers get paralyzed again, so they can only stand and watch as a Halluinoid rips apart the tank, and then the commander slithers up and fires again and again, taking his time about it. Raiden333 goes down, and then the Halluincoid moves in on kedinik.

    A Scout is detected north of the main base, headed toward the wreck of the last UFO. It gets shot down, and drops into the drink- the bean counters can't complain about our not attacking that one!

    Well, it seems like it's my turn to join the fighting. I've been training for this for a long time. But now that the time has come, I'm scared. In a span of three missions most of our veterans were wiped out. I'm new and inexperienced, how am I going to survive out there? The other guys have been talking about how they're going to kick alien butt, but I sense it's false bravado. They're scared too. If we get wiped out, who will be left to defend our planet?

    No one came back from the last mission. I ain't got much choice at this point but I'm startin' to get the shakes. Don't know how I feel about this kit they hooked me up with, though. The idea of gettin' up close and personal with one of them Vipons to hit 'em with a damn cattle prod doesn't strike me as such a great idea.

    Yeah, things are going to hell, fast.

    No one, not one, even the fucking tank, came back from the last mission. According to the salvaged transport camera (some crazy bastard walked out there)

    The base has just been put on full alert since there isn't enough armor in working condition left. Actually... there aren't any armor suits left and we'll have to wait for the next batch before anyone has a chance to go on a mission. We're pretty much screwed if they attack. Everyone over here is being put on extra drills to keep sharp because they figure that'll help us if we're raided.

    The mood here at the base is kinda like one at a funeral, everyone's morale is horrible. There are a couple of people who seem, lets say, excited by the danger. Well, to each their own.

    Just like to say that this thread convinced me to buy the game (and get Bman's mod).

    Having a blast with it! Really good to get that x-com feeling after all these years again!

    But damnit, finding commanders is ridiculously hard...

    On a somewhat less happy note, we've been losing Laser Rifles so fast we're actually out of them. The two new medics will have to settle for a shotgun and a regular rifle for now.

    Everything stays quiet for a bit, allowing bongi, Maddoc, Inziga, Mr Ray, DualEdge and Jast to heal up. Then- hey, visitors!

    The interceptors deal with it pretty quickly, but we still don't have a transport, and Jast refuses to walk. Then, a few hours later, another UFO is detected off the coast of the main continent. And at the same time the transport arrives. Before the pilot can even roll to a stop, the door's been yanked open and bongi, Maddoc, Inziga, Mr Ray, DualEdge, Jast, MrMonroe and Forar climb aboard to get to the crashed UFO before it disappears.

    Antihippy: Yes, an update. I do them whenever the time and mood strikes. :)

    Docken: the frequency of commanders IS adjustable, you know.

    Forar is first off, and in a rather unusual fashion spots a Sectoid right off the bat. One quick exchange of laser/plasma fire and two hits later, and its down.

    MrMonroe is next. He spots a Larve, but not before it spots him and gives him a nice green welcoming.

    MrMonroe doesn't have enough AP to do anything after he stumbles free of the cloud, so DualEdge gets off next. Nope, the Larve is waay out of range. He runs out of the way as Jast steps up to take a shot. In the end, despite half the frigging transport taking shots or throwing grenades, the Larve isn't so much as singed. Good job, guys!
