Oh, and friggin' Rogue Squadron for N64. I wanna play it again, so bad.
Noooo! There are many elements of that game which can fuck right off. Those undodgeable homing missile bastards being first on the list.
that game scarred me for life
Yeah, it was a bitch and there were some pretty inexplicable bits for the avid Star Wars fan like the level where you used retrofitted X-Wings instead of Y-Wings for no reason, when the latter got almost no time to shine.
This isn't the most imperfect game thread you know.
He does thats why he posted it here
Fellas, this guy wanted Nintendo to put Sora in Brawl.
To say that he's viewing the game through rose-colored glasses would be a severe understatement.
Damn owned
What's wrong with Sora in Brawl? I'll take him over Cloud or anyone else that's highly inappropriate. Heck, I'd take him over Snake, who was a very inappropriate inclusion.
No, shut up, he was.
Anyone playing Kirby Superstar Ultra on the DS? I loved the original, and this one's an improvement in almost every way (updated animation, slowdown removal, FMV). It's close to becoming part of my perfect list.
Although it would have already made that list if it wasn't for the button placement, in which the Y B setup is reversed on the DS. You can't customize it either.
My Top Three games of all time (though not necessarily in that order) and all in my opinion the pinnacle of their respective series/genre. More or less. FF and RPGs are a bit shady in that respect, but IX is still far and away my favorite. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the greatest 2D platformer of all time. Sorry, Mario 3. Sorry Mario World. But it is. That's just how it plays. The epic plot just makes it sweeter still.
Civ 4 just misses out on this list by the tiniest of tiny margins. And I have a feeling from what I played in the beta that Red Alert 3 will be joining the above this October.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the greatest 2D platformer of all time. Sorry, Mario 3. Sorry Mario World. But it is. That's just how it plays. The epic plot just makes it sweeter still.
Oh god yes.
Great games on their own, but together the whole thing just has this epic feel to it.
It still amazes me how the plot slots together, with the day/night cycle through the levels. And how Knuckles' plot takes place a while after Sonic & Tails' story. It's a shame the game split changed that in some areas..
I'd really like to see the game rereleased either Mega Man 9 style or Bionic Commando Rearmed style... with all the changes restored. Flying Battery should lead into Ice Cap, damn it!
I have always considered this the finest 2D sidescroller ever made, and the best Kirby game, as well. What I always find most amazing about the game is that you copy enemy powers, like in other Kirby games, but in KSS each power gives you a whole suite of moves to play with rather than just one. It's amazing because no Kirby game since has done this, and I don't know why. In Kirby 64, you just get one move per power. Canvas Curse, one move per power. Squeak Squad, some powers have multiple moves, but most don't and it's still not nearly as varied as KSS. The only ones I can't speak to are Nightmare in Dreamland and Amazing Mirror because I never played 'em, but since Nightmare in Dreamland was a remake of Kirby's Adventure for the NES I'm going to guess it had the same problem. (Don't know about Amazing Mirror, though.)
Also, there's just so much variety. The different game modes (Spring Breeze, Dynablade, Great Cave Offensive, Revenge of Meta-Knight and Milky Way Wishes) are all different enough that they have a unique feel but none of them compromise the core gameplay, maintaining the fun factor throughout. Most games would have either tried to get too creative with the different gimmicks (Earthworm Jim 2?) or play it too safe, but KSS strikes just the right balance.
Plus, the gameplay is just smooth and spot-on. The controls never feel sluggish or oversensitive. Kirby handles just like you'd hope. The people behind KSS would go on to make the Smash Bros games, and in the same way that Smash Bros gives you a bunch of context-sensitive attacks which let you defend yourself in any situation, controlling yourself in KSS is intuitive and visceral.
I literally can't think of one legitimate problem with the game. Not even a nitpick, really! The only, only complaint I could see someone having is that the game's too easy. I'm not sure exactly what criteria to use, it's certainly the hardest Kirby game I've ever played, but it's true the game isn't ball-bustingly hard so if that's your thing you might be disappointed.
Kirby Super Star Ultra, a remake of the game, just came out on DS. I haven't played it yet so I don't know how faithful it is, but it certainly looks like it's worth getting.
Rocketlex on
While you were asleep, your windows told me all your secrets.
Civ 4:Colonization, a remake of the game, just came out on PC. I haven't played it yet so I don't know how faithful it is, but it certainly looks like it's worth getting.
Perfect Dark 64 is up there along with Doom which I consider one of the best games of all time.
I put a silly number of hours into Perfect Dark multiplayer, and I still think it holds its own against modern FPSes... at least in terms of customization and number of options in multiplayer.
But I would deny it the perfect award, because- let's be honest- several of the singleplayer levels stank pretty bad. Skedar Ruins anyone?
Part of me wants to recommend Star Wars: Battlefront 2 because of:
-the space combat
-Rise of the empire
-Some of the level design
-Galactic Conquest
But the space A.I. is sadly lacking, I never had to worry about the computer boarding my cruiser and blowing stuff up, at least on the PS2 that is.
Instead, I nominate that one game that everyone re-installs whenever its mentioned, because every time I play it, I see something that i wish I could see in a modern game.
Perfect Dark Zero. Cel-shading was just what the stale old franchise needed to revitalize it. And the PDZ multiplayer was really good. It wasn't at all broken or stupid. And the game has "perfect" in the title, which proves it's perfect. They couldn't put that in the title if it was a lie. False advertising and all that.
Rayman 2 and 3.
Seriously, the second one had some of the greatest art direction ever and it was epic. Heaps of variety in gameplay and it was just plain awesome. The third one had art direction that was just as good, backed up by better graphics, incredibly funny characters, visual jokes and dialogue, some genuinely scary moments (for me, back when i was a littl'un), and a brilliant combat system. Only thing that could have let it down was a slightly rushed last 1/4, but that didn't matter. In fact, it still felt flawless.
Actually, the best possible game would be rayman 2, but with rayman 3 controls and sense of humor. So much better than these mingame bastardisations.
Edit: oh, and Age of Mythology and Lego Starwars. Note: all these are on the pc
...you know... I was gonna say Rayman 3. And I expected to be laughed at because of Rayman 3's many, many failures. And then I'd retreat, sobbing, and swear revenge to the ignorant masses.
But know there are two of us.
The revolution is about to begin.
Well, and there's other games too which I'd call perfect. First of all, Jak II (here comes the laughing track). It's a game that simply does nothing wrong- and also one of the few games with an unexpected story. Jak II is a boot to the face for all those who despised Jak & Daxter, because EVERYTHING is better. Seriously.
Of course, they destroyed that with Jak III, but we all now that game doesn't exist.
Then, Kingdom Hearts. I'm talking about the first one here. You know, the one without the silly shonen manga storyline. The one where the Heartless were impressive. The one where your enemies didn't spam invincibility all the time. Y'know.
And then there are three RPGs: Final Fantasy IX and Shadow Hearts Covenant; the first one because of the beautiful, fairy-tale like world and the awesome story, the second one because of the story again and all those hilarious tidbits. Both don't have very good battle systems (Shadow Hearts FTNW does about everything better than Covenant, if you ask me), but, well, who cares if you've got that kind of world.
Also, Vivi and Anastasia are awesome.
The third one is Paper Mario. I'd say the second one as well, but I'm gonna stay with the one who's "more" perfect; the battle system is worse, but the level design is better. Also, it was the first. (Paper style, I mean.)
I don't think I've ever played a 'perfect' game. Even my absolute favourite game of all time ever that I constantly view through glasses of the rosiest colour (Final Fantasy VII) has some glaring flaws that prevent it from reaching 'perfect' status.
I'd that to say the closest would be Shadow of the Colossus, but even then there are some nagging little issues with it that still stop it from being perfect.
I'm pretty sure it's already been mentioned, but...
I just played through it again on my SNES, and I could hardly tear myself away. Time has done nothing to diminish the excellence of the gameplay. Even having played through the game at least three times completely, there were moment that took me some time and gave me some puzzles. I dare you to try and find all the heart pieces without a guide playing through your first time. I dare you. Or the cape, or the upgraded swords, or all the bottles.
Too much fun. If you haven't played it in a couple years and your cartridge is accumulating dust, pop it in and see how fast you can get through it. I snuck by with 6 'games played'.
Kingdom Hearts. I'm talking about the first one here. You know, the one without the silly shonen manga storyline. The one where the Heartless were impressive. The one where your enemies didn't spam invincibility all the time.
I just can't wrap my mind around how someone can consider Kingdom Hearts a perfect game. It is so deeply flawed that "perfect" is like the last word that comes to mind when describing it. I can understand someone liking it of course, but perfect? Mind boggling.
Got a link to where thse changes a re explained? S3K is my favoutrite game ever (well, tied with Halo 1)

I don't have a link, but think about it - at the end of Flying Battery, that door flies off.
The door became the snowboard. It flies onto Ice Cap with Sonic from the sky, Sonic grabs it and starts to board. They later reused this idea in SA2, when Sonic rips part of the plane off and uses it as his snowboard.
The Flying Battery Zone is the airship that tries to bomb you on Angel Island. It was meant to fly overhead again at some point during Carnival Night (probably to drop off a boss or something) and the cannon would then launch you onto the ship. If you think about it, flying battery's original placement makes it fall in the same kind of place the other industrial levels fall (Star Light, Metropolis) in Sonic 1 and 2.
Oh, and Flying Battery in Sonic 3 took place at dawn/early day, to keep the game's day/night cycle. Carnival Night was...night. Ice Cap Early Morning/Day. Flying Battery would've originally been dawn/early morning.
There aren't THAT many changes due to the split, but I'd really like to see the game restored as one with the original level order.
Here's the Sonic 3 level select, which as most people know shows S&K levels they'd actually finished at the time S3 shipped, but cut from the cart:
Carnival Night Zone leads into Ice Cap. The snowboard was just sitting there. Sonic lands on it and proceeds to snowboard down the slope.
You sir are full of shit.
This is how it was originally meant to be before the game was split in two because Sega wanted a Sonic game for christmas. Thus why I say "meant to", "became" and "would." Read back a page please... I said

This talk of the greatness of Sonic 3 and Knuckles has me asking an important question:
If I have a wireless 360 controller, and one of those USB charge adapters, can I use my 360 controller on the PC? or do I have to find a wired 360 controller, as I have the Sonic 3 and knuckles PC collection, but could never quite get past using a keyboard...

You can't use the charger sadly, though I think you can buy wireless dongles that let you use your 360 pad on the PC.
I really wish they'd release S3&K on XBLA or the Virtual Console - I have it on Mega Collection Plus, and it doesn't run quite right on the 360.

As someone who just listed PD64 as a perfect game, I will say PDZ is the worst sequel I have ever had to play. Ever. I hate Rare of making it. It was awful and I hate them for ruining PD. Just had to say that.
bah, guess I'll have to look for it when I get Fable 2 next month... so close, and yet, so far...
Lol drama queen. If you want it so badly just shell out the 17 bucks. Surely you won't go bankrupt over that, will you?
no, I mean that I can't get it online, since my dad has heard so many horror stories about it he won't let me use his credit card, therefore, I'll have to look for it once I'm in the store, picking up a game.
It still amazes me how the plot slots together, with the day/night cycle through the levels. And how Knuckles' plot takes place a while after Sonic & Tails' story. It's a shame the game split changed that in some areas..

Final Fantasy VI
I say this because I like not being stuck with the same overworld and cutscene character. Despite the fact that this happens after a certain distance through the game, the fact that I can end the game any time after the crucial halfway point makes me very happy...despite it being impossible.

The only thing stopping FFIX from being my absolute favourite game is the damn end boss that I've never beaten.
