Jericho
HacksawJ. Duggan Esq.Wrestler at LawRegistered Userregular
What is it: A TV show about the small, rural town of Jericho, Kansas, and what happens to its residents in the aftermath of a nuclear explosion in nearby Denver, Colorado, which causes a loss of power and communications that leaves Jericho isolated. The reasons for the nuclear detonation are not immediately known. Cut off from the outside world after learning of a second explosion at Atlanta, Georgia, facing rumors and fears of further attacks against other U.S. cities, and a breakdown of public order and the chain of command, the community must find some way to survive in the midst of panic and chaos.
tl;dr: The Fallout, only set the day after its cataclysmic war.
So is anyone else watching this? I'd really like to hear your opinions and theories regarding this show. My theory:
[spoiler:fc9b121b70]China hit us back first.[/spoiler:fc9b121b70]
Exactly what I was thinking. A dose of Vitamin "C".
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
Jericho Jericho
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
And the walls come tumbling down
On topic, this does sound like a really neat show premise.
Though, I'm confused as to how they are isolated merely by a loss of power and communications. And, if they are isolated, how do they learn of the second explosion?

They're isolated in several ways:
1. The terrain: small town in the middle of Nowhere County, Kansas doesn't get much interstate traffic on an annual basis. Something tells me, what with a nuclear war going on, it's going to be even less so.
2. No communications: no phones, no radios, no TVs, not even a decent ham radio for three counties. The place is pretty well isolated, both physically and communication wise.
[spoiler:c7c15ce755]They learned about the second explosion from a boy in town; his mother was in Atlanta when it happened. She left him a phone message the exact moment the missile hit.[/spoiler:c7c15ce755]

I like the show so far. It's the only new show on CBS that actually has me interested, although I agree with the poster earlier that said it's starting off kind of slow. Hopefully it will pick up the pace, though.
It will be interested to eventually find out what the main character (Skeet!) has been doing since the last time he was seen by anyone in Jericho. He obviously has lots of secrets, and [spoiler:04d329b6ed]the fact that he shows up in town on the exact day of the nuclear attack[/spoiler:04d329b6ed] certainly has to be more than a coincidence. I'm thinking he may be involved directly in it in some way.
It is a neat show premise, but I personally think they handled it in a wrong way. I don't know, it just seems so Dawson's Creek, but of course that might change. I totally hate the music, though.
I must say, the thing that has most intrigued me is the main character. I don't know, he just seems to be quite different, even though I don't normally care for that kind of character.

I think part of it is the way Ulrich portrays the character itself. He's very understated in everything he does on the show, much like how a real person might be in the same situation. I've seen comments about how people don't like him on the show, but I think he fits the role perfectly.

Cool show though, I have high hopes.
See, if it was more than a coincidence then I think he'd be a bit more desperate to get his money and get the hell out of there. Dont forget he was leaving town the moment the bombs hit.
I love post- apocalyptic stories and I loved the premise of this one- the imediate aftermath of nuclear war from the perspective of a totally isolated community could make for a really interesting story. But the characters and the writing bored the shit out of me, so I doubt I'll keep watching it.
It could do with being a bit darker. Rght now its like Lost Lite. The television equivelent of Audioslave. They really need to have a tight arc over the next few episodes and season arc to really draw people in because I can see it getting old real quick
So theories on....
[realspoiler:dc891f559f] The Cop? What do you think? CIA? NSA? He knew of a frequency to tune into for information, has a secret room in his basement with a map of the US? Ideas?
[/realspoiler:dc891f559f]
Oh and theres a low budget webisode on CBS's website about the Jericho "others," you know...because they wanted to be different from Lost... the end of that webisode seems to indicate to me that
[spoiler:dc891f559f] something sci-fi may be going on...I mean who would be able to move after the nuclear blast?[/spoiler:dc891f559f]
Ooh, I need to get in on this. Sounds good! I never did get into Lost since I only found slight interest in it after Season two was half-way through. I don't have the time/money to catch up on it.
I'll watch the next one, but I'll stop watching if anybody gives a ridiculous speech again.
"Radiation? Ha! I will stay in the bar."
"Radiation could kill you. Very hard!"
"Ok, I will go to the shelter now."
Yeah, I'm starting to see a lame pattern here. Life threatening problem comes up, Skeet solves it 'cause he's just that darn helpful. Patriotic/Co-operation problem comes up, Major Dad or Major Dork gives heart warming speech about Apple Pie and Family Values, or explains radiation poisoning to an idiot.

By the way, if anyone missed the episode on Wednesday, it airs again tonight at 9:00 PM Eastern.
Well, I just watched the first two episodes (thanks iTunes!) and I gotta say.. I like it! But, I'm not all that picky anyway so any, and all, of the cliches, cheesiness, and questionable acting really makes no difference to me. I like some of the characters and I'm really curious to see where they go with this show. There's a lot of potential.
[spoiler:a27a96e42b]When the kid said his mother wasn't in Denver but was actually in Atlanta I immediately got chills. That was eerie.[/spoiler:a27a96e42b]
For those of you who haven't seen it, this show is slow.
Very, very, slow. Like, criminally slow. Driving 2 km/h on a freeway slow.
And I just know I'm going to be drawn in to it until I watch it religiously .
I have a feeling it will start picking up in a few episodes. There are already some interesting developments:
[spoiler:905a6ce29e]The Black Cop that knows tons of info apparently now has info on what cities were nuked. From what we saw, they included Denver, Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Diego, and he was still pulling tacks out to place on the map when the show ended. So it looks like we can safely assume that every single major city in the U.S. was nuked, which is pretty significant. And from what he said to his wife at the end of this last episode, it sounds like he had some idea that the attacks were coming before they happened.[/spoiler:905a6ce29e]
What I'm hoping for is that, instead of taking the "terrorists nuked us!" route, we later find out that other major cities around the world were attacked, including those in enemy states. It'd certainly make things more interesting. I just don't want to find out later that "Oh, it was China" or something.
Theres a series of books in Australia called the Tomorrow series where an unknown country attacks us. Through the 12 or so books, its never explicitly told who actually attacked us. I hope they go this route with the show. An unknown attacker is far more scarier than some stereotype.

Dude its aliens, or the bombs come from the lost island when you dont push the button.

Oh God yes. I've read 'em (Australia gets invaded by an unspecified Indo-Chinese country, or perhaps Taiwan or Korea, Marsden really jumps around the issue, and Australia is denied military aid from everyone but the Kiwis) and if they could mix the style of that book with perhaps Mad Max, I don't see how it could fail.
Im watching the second ep now. This show has so much fucking potential and I'll be really disappointed if they fuck it up. Im hoping for a mix of The Day After and the zombie apocalypse comic series The Walking Dead.
Also, the deaf chick from Weeds is awesome. I hope she gets more attention and roles.
This show is screaming Portal Storms and the 7 Day War from Half Life to to me. Unlikely it's something so sci-fi but I wouldn't be surpsied it's something similar.
So far it's been fun if as said above slow. Interesting main character who can slough off killing two elderly people... And we all know the guy who they bough the Radio from is right. Though I'm kinda dissapointed the black cop is another dark, tall and mysterious character to everyone. They could have shook it up allowing the whole family to be in on it or something.
Other then that it clearly has potential. I'll wathc a couple more episodes.
Plus we get another cute, witty, intelligent redhead mechinic to watch on TV.

Just thought I'd point this out, this show is only being shown a few hours later in Australia after the screening in America. Much better than our usual few months.

It's not easy to find so far as I can tell. To get to "Beyond Jericho Ep01"
Goto http://www.cbs.com/primetime/jericho/
Click "watch now" under full episodes
The real episodes will show up but on the lower left corner of the window, will be a video called "Beyond Jericho." So far this is the only way I can ge to the video. Searching for "Beyond Jericho" doesn't find it. *shrugs*
You aren't missing anything, as that is quite possibly the worst thing I've ever seen released by a reputable company. It would be bad for a high school film class.
