I mean a third game in the same place? Conquering it again? Its gonna get stale fast.
The way forward is a game with two cities. Stillwater's an island, so it's not that much of a stretch to have a second city across the sea only reachable by plane. The intro of the game could take place in Stillwater and in the row, with some sort of major plot development pushing you to the new city which you have to conquer and work your way back to Stillwater. Perhaps even 3 cities with Stillwater as an island and the other two connected by some countryside, San Andreas style.
I definitely don't want another game just in Stillwater, but I don't want them to leave it either. I want Stillwater plus somewhere else...
Simple: Main character wants to expand. Goes over in the intro/prologue, gets the shit kicked out of him/her and goes crawling back to the row.
Says fuck that shit, grabs his/her most loyal troops(survivors of SR1 and 2, one or two newcomers), finds a little hideaway in the edge of the new city where they can set up shop and expand out of, gets to work winning it over the course of the game. Wins the city, only to find Ultor's decided to come back to the row with one hell of a vengeance. Bridge between the first and second acts is you defending the row, then you charge into Ultor's turf for the second act to bring them down for good and claim everything they have for yourself.

Bing, boom, bam. Works like a charm.
Yeah, I can see them simply expanding everything to something like GTA:SA, where Stillwater ends up being one of several cities you can go to.
The game came out on PC today and no one in the universe knows anything about it. I have the darndest feeling that this port is gonna be very very bad.

None of the four reviews on metacritic seem to have mentioned any game-breaking port flaws, but they hardly do. To be honest, Volition seem to know what they're doing: they've kept prices down, have used minimal DLC and most importantly, they didn't try to rush it out for Christmas. The complete opposite of whatever R* did.
Looks like those reviews are just copies of the 360/PS3 version. They don't mention anything about PC version like controls and frame rate, but they do talk about how easy it is to join a multiplayer game with the d-pad.

Oh. I just glanced through them, my fault. Still, I have a good feeling about this port. I mean, I really do want this to be good and they haven't messed up so far.
I want it to be good too, I loved the 360 version. Absolutely no news and that it's using gamespy arcade for multiplayer ain't sounding too good. I didn't even know gamespy arcade was still around.

So this is $38 for the ps3 version on amazon. I'm pretty tempted to buy this. If I could get it without my wife seeing yet another game in the mail I would for sure.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.
Well, truth be told, it doesn't run all that great on the consoles, either. Frame drops, screen tearing, and frequent pop up are standard fare during a game.
But, it's so much fun that it really doesn't matter in the end.

To be even more truthful, it runs even worser on the PC than the consoles, even with specs that are much better than recommended. Or sooo says the people.

I was far too entertained by ripping around the city in souped-up personalized sports cars and tossing satchel charges at unsuspecting pedestrians to ever be bothered by minor visual issues. Or driving around on fire and blowing things up during Trail Blazer side missions. Or enjoying the hell out of the fact that the main character doesn't get all weepy about what he's decided to do for a living and enjoys every second of being a bastardly gang leader intent on conquering the city. Or enjoying an actually diverse selection of muzacks (with a custom station, no less!) to listen to while rampaging.
Still mad at myself for taking so long to play this game. And mad at myself because the money I could've used to buy this game went to buying GTAIV instead. Pity about the PC side of things, though.
The tough thing about not putting yourself into the game is the character creation is so advanced. You can really get a decent likeness of people and the natural inclination is to put yourself in.

I decided not to put a likeness of myself in the game because the very first randomly generated character it gave me was a perfect likeness for an 80's British hair-band glam-rocker. With the addition of massive amounts of black eye makeup, a torn black jean vest, bright pink and green camo shirt, and acid green faded jeans, all the cutscenes with this guy were bizarrely perfect.
What kind of worn out psycho-80's-rocker is going to put up with somebody changing the TV channel? Not this one, that's for sure. Sure, it's not overdramatic garbage spouting from a supposedly hardcore ex-soldier who's too stupid to take control of things for himself, but I had a hard time thinking about that because I was laughing too damn hard at how awesome the main character in SR2 is.
I've been playing too much Persona 4 and need to get my kill on. I didn't pick up GTA4 because the DRM mongering, useless bonus apps, and crappy performance made it seem like Rockstar resented having to do a PC port. I was really hoping Volition could do this right, and I could reward them for it. It sounds like the performance issues will keep me maxing personas a while longer.
Oh well. At least the indie game award winners on GameSetWatch will help me break things up. And there's always Garden Gnome Carnage.
Count me as someone who's only just remembered to start playing SR2 (after forgetting its release last year) - and I'm still kicking myself on not doing it earlier.
I haven't had this much fun with a game for years.
So, I'm embarking on my very, very first Xbox Live multiplayer experience and it's gonna be Saint's Row.. Anybody wanna party?
I'd love to party up, but sadly my Xbox is out to Microsoft for repair.
If you're still interested next week, add my gmaertag - Kemal86.
Trust me, I can show you some crazy shit in this game
Get some DLC out there for it, man!
I wish I could comment on this. I wish so hard.
I'm pretty sure it's been announced over on the official SR2 community site that a title update is in the works for the Xbox360 version and has been for some time. I'm not on the project anymore so I don't know that status of it.
EDIT: There will be DLC. It's being worked on. Can't say anything else.
EDIT2: Except that the DLC may or may not contain totally awesome mustaches.

Know anyone who still is that would have more concrete info?
Also, to those who have the PC version: Any built-in mod support?

I might! Throw a message in the thread when you've got your box back! I used a card I got with some used game for 48 hours free gold, so I'm still looking for someone who would want to play some co-op or something. Anything. It's a lot harder just getting in a good public game than I thought it would be.
I didn't want to go through 50 pages of posts to see if someone's already mentioned it, but I really miss WMD Kboom. It took a while for me to 'get it' in SR1, but now I can't play that game without it.

I just got this last week from a dying Circuit City. Promptly made my character as much like The Joker as possible, except the only really fitting voice was the British one.
Still, this game is awesome. Just the mayhem mode alone keeps me grinning.
I, uh, I can't play it. I mean, I can play it. I just can't play it. The framerate isn't too bad of an issue, but what is is the fact that the game seems to run like 2 or 3 times faster than it appears it should (based on youtube footage). So driving a motorcycle? Not happening. I press W and I'm 4 blocks down the road upside down under a pick up truck with 4 dead bodies nearby.
I got this game about a week ago. Man do I love it. There are some nuisances here and there, but I love how they get you into the big gun battles from the very beginning.
Only, some of the activities, like mayhem, are awesome.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
Such a goddamn shame.
For today's good news, Yahtzee said SR2 was his GOTY!

They really fixed a LOT of the shit that was going wrong. i still cant run it full blast... but i can get it to xbox quality.
