Installed a new 9800GTX+ into my comp. (Mobo: nForce XFX 790i)

Now I have another 9800GTX to install. As far as I know, all I need to do is plug her in, plug in power, and plug in the bridge? Then enable SLI in Nvidia Control Panel?

Thanks. Reason Im asking is because I just replaced my old 9800GTX with a 9800GTX+ and just thought it would work, but then windows had to fuck up and recognize the card as a 8800, and drivers were all fucked up. It was a mess. Had to reformat.

Thats a weird problem you have there. Normally if I switch to a new nvidia card, I just uninstall the drivers, shut down, replace the card and turn the computer on again and it is recognized. Maybe putting two cards in at the same time just freaked it out somewhat.

So, I have also some questions regarding SLI:

In SLi mode I cannot use a second screen, is it possible to switch off the SLI mode (best would be via the nvidia SLI presets), so I could use a second screen, if I am done playing that particular game?

There are different methods available how each card handles/splits up the image data. What is the best one?

Will an Enermax 720W PSU be enough to handle two Geforce GTX 280?

In the Nvidia control panel you go to "Set Multi-GPU mode and select Multi-display mode. I'm not sure if this can be changed automatically.

    Keep it on NVidia Recommended.

Probably not. I would get 850+.

Ok, I put in the other 9800GTX last night. Again, Windows being the dumb whore that it is, says I put in a fucking 8800GT. So I didn't let Windows install the damn drivers and I shut down.

I googled it, and really couldn't find anyone else with the problem. I just flashed the bios on my motherboard with the latest drivers. Gonna try it again soon. Dumbass Windows.

Wonder if you can trick it, maybe try downloading driver take it out, put in other one, dl. Then try to sli them. Kind of curious if this will work or what happens.

It shouldn't really matter that it doesn't detect it right. The differences between the 9800 and 8800 are all outside the GPU.

Try installing the diver and see what it detects it as after.

I fixed this guys, I put the SLI connecter on the slots furthest away from the DVI ports.

Now it sees it as a 9800GTX. But this makes me question if three way SLI would work with one 9800GTX and 2x 9800GTX+'s.

Ah well, 2 way is fine.
