Okay so I have a bit of a problem with the game, Freespace 2 which I just purchased off of GOG.com. It seems to be a hardware problem but I'll describe it in detail.
The game crashes in the mission where you are flying through a nebula for the first time. The screen turns yellow and though the sound still plays, the screen stays frozen and won't change. I can get past this level. So far I've run it in compatibility mode and played around with detail settings to no avail.
I'm using a Gforce 6800 GTS 540mb with a dual core processor and 2gigs of ram. It's Windows XP professional sp3.
I'm pretty sure I've played Freespace 2 on XP pro, probably on a similar card. The nebula is really graphically intensive, so I'm guessing it's a graphics problem(and well..from the description it almost obviously is).
You could try updating drivers, but that video card came out years after the game so I doubt that's the problem. It could be GOG's fault, I had BG2 just recently (released about the same time) from gametap, and ordered it from amazon upon deciding I didn't like gametap. I had some graphical hiccups in the downloaded version that weren't present in the boxed copy I bought
