when I go to school I plan on staying in residence, at least for the first year

I think it costs something like $7,600.00 for the whole year (8 months)

    including 14 meals a week

good thing with living in residence halls is it is included in your school payments which for me were covered by loans

so it doesn't feel like you are being completely fucked up the ass paying that much for a little room

I'm about fourth in my grade right now in terms of marks (and I don't really try all that hard), and I do quite a bit of volunteer work, so I'm counting on having a lot of my schooling paid for in scholarships

that said, my parents also have quite a large fund set up for me

I pay about $3500 US per year for university and my loan is interest free as long as I don't leave the country for more than six months a year, can also claim living costs that will cover rent interest free as well.

Shoot I really should be doing something for college. I've been contemplating joining Academic Decathlon as my 6th period (bumping down gym to seventh, and my friend assures me that they do nothing). Any thoughts?

Despite the shittyness of our school our decath team went to state, and the senior's of the team (5 of em) in total got more then 600k in scholorships.

I was lucky and did not need to take out loans for UG. It would be a drop in the bucket compared to what I need to finance now though even if I had paid for it entirely through loans.

NYC is an expensive city to live in, yes, though I have an incredible view and can boast about living in one of the most fantastic cities this world has ever seen. I'm unsure if I would stay here after graduation, although there are a few firms that have such amazing compensation packages that I could certainly be persuaded to.

when i was in new zealand for holiday we passed through this university town where apparently the whole place is pretty much built around the university i guess?
which sounds like a pretty cool place if its just a town full of students and shit
still had decent shops and stuff and walking down the main street there were guys who lived above the stores hanging out on their balcony/store overhang thing, like basically out on the street but just a bit higher than everyone else just drinking and talkin shit

also i think that place has the steepest road in the southern hemisphere
guy driving didnt change gears quick enough so it took a couple tries to get up it

This becomes quite the strain on my wallet.

At my lowest I was living on just under $600/month.

    Those were fun times.

325 for rent, thirty for power (steam heat sucks, but it's free), twenty for the phone, twenty for internet, forty for gas (or, after the van died, bus fare), twenty for laundry (when I wasn't taking it to my moms), a few on soaps and detergents and other niceities

I took leftovers from work a few nights a week (Chick-fil-A is good, but I'm still sick of it two years later), and ate whenever I went to my mom's. The rest of the time I had eggs or noodles. I would spend ten dollars on groceries and still be set for a week and a half if I was being luxuriant.

The little bit that was left got set aside or blown on ordering a pizza when people came over. Every so often I'd buy something frivolous, but I almost always regretted it.

It really wasn't so bad. I could have lived like that for some times if I didn't go into it owing on school debts. I didn't acquire any debt on living, only interest on school. About the same time, there were people around here whining about how they had to live off credit cards because they barely made a thousand dollars a month.

Too few people know what a real need is.

socks delicious rice and bean burritos

    tortillas
    refried beans
    mexican-style rice***

    + extras
I suggest hot sauce and a little colby jack cheese

toast the tortillas on a pan or skillet, so they are a little crisp and hot
microwave the rest of that shit
    put it in the tortilla
    eat it
    feel good

***good mexican-style rice is the heart of this shit. The above was just post-processing
    http://www.mex-recipes.com/mexican-rice-recipes.html
Mexican rice recipe: I spent twenty years in the restaurant business. Spent a lot of time in Mexico. Discovered lots of different foods. In 95% of the places there was one thing we all agreed on. How to cook Mexican rice. Lets look at the spices and the right product for this Mexican rice recipe:

    Garlic, fresh or powder
    Onion
    Bell pepper
    Tomato puree
    Vegetable oil or Olive oil
    Long grain white rice

Not many spices! The reason is, we don't want our Mexican rice recipe tasting like all the other foods on our plate.
see the link for the rest of it

I usually make up a big batch of the rice and freeze it in sandwich bags

sure, its not as cheap as eating wheat sprouts, but it is very tasty and not very expensive

I'd had my financial aid revoked because of grades so for the past few weeks I have been down to about one and a half meals per day. Fortunately my roommates have been cooking, so I have not been having to spend too much on food. But I would buy things like spaghetti and macaroni. Pretty cheap stuff.

A meal from burger king was not too bad either, considering it was about $5 and I was set for the day.

But I got all of that resolved and I have my money now! So I am pretty happy about that.
