The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
For those who haven't seen it, it's a "teen drama/mystery-neo-noir series" which used to air on UPN. I started watching it a few weeks ago, and finished watching it today (that sure was a crazy finale). And then I made the happier discovery that the third season will start airing this Tuesday night (October 3) on the new CW, less than a week after I finished watching the second season. Hi5s all around. And let the speculation begin.
Goddamn do I love Veronica Mars. I picked up the first season for 17.99 at Costco on a whim, and as soon as I watched the first season I bought season 2 for twice as much and it was worth every fucking penny. I love the characters and the writing. I hope this goes many more seasons. I'm also glad that Mac will be a recurring character now, she rocks.
Kevin Smith and Joss Whedon cameos in season 2 FTW.
First season was good. Then, they had to bring in shit in the second season like stealing your own baby, and revealing just which witness in court has the clap.
Ugh. The second season was just fucking horrible. It's getting one more season out of me, before I give up.
I fucking LOVE Veronica Mars. Season 2's finale was incredible and I can't wait for seaon 3 to start.
Am I the only one that thinks they'll end the show if it lasts until she graduates from college? I was thinking that the main point of the show was highschool/college drama mixed with noir/mystery. So I assumed that it would only last for 6 seasons.
I find myself surprised that I never got into this show. The few times that I've seen an episode, I've always enjoyed it, but I don't ever feel a compulsion to keep watching like, say, Lost.
There are definitely Buffy-esque attributes:
Quick, witty dialogue
A central mystery which the other plots revolve around
Ultra-hotty SUPREME. I mean, seriously, have you seen the Maxim pictures?
That's a winning combination, but it just doesn't work for me.
On the contrary, I find Lost to be pretty horrible on the whole.
Veronica Mars has all the right elements, and good humor, to keep me coming back every week. Then again, it also has 1 hot beaner and 1 hot cracker, of which I would love to have both at once.
After seeing the first episode (or pilot, whatever) I was fully convinced that this was going to be, as Joss Whedon called it, the greatest show ever. Then... it went downhill a bit. Not an enormous amount. But it went from being, totally engaging-compelling drama to being, just, you know, better-than-average TV. Which is a shame. But I'll still watch it.
Funny coincedence, I just borrowed season one and two from my friend on Monday and finished watching it all the other day. It's a pretty good show, but it didn't grab me in the way Lost and Battlestar Galactica did (the way that makes me force my friends to sit down and watch it). I think it may be the characters... I only really like two of 'em (Logan and Keith). There are some interesting plots and some big "OMG" moments, but I can't really put the show on my favorites list.
That said, I'll be watching season 3, if only for more Logan (Jason Dohring OWNED that character, his delivery is always perfect).
EDIT: Haw Haw, I was just lookin around the show's IMDB page, and I noticed Weevil was the kid in Kazaam. Good times.
Veronica Mars delivers on the 'HOLY FUCK' endings which keeps me watching. Also, Michael Cera and Alia Shawkat cameos for the win!
... and I'm there.
do I need to see the first 2 seasons to enjoy the third, or am i good to go? I'll probably go back and watch them if I like it anyway, but I as usually, like to know what I'm getting into.
I don't think I've ever seen a show that liked red herrings more than Veronica Mars. The only problem is, in mystery writing class, they forgot the part where you have to show evidence leading to the real conclusion to go along with all the red herrings. Seriously. Season 1 and season 2 are guilty of this. Big twist ending in the last episode, except we've seen absolutely zero evidence even hinting at this shit before hand.

At least for season 2 they dropped hints, I sort of figured that:
[spoiler:51ff17a9c6]Cassidy not going forwards with the sexy side of his relationship with Mac ment he was molested. And he was in the limo, AND he was, frankly, the only one in the limo bright enough (sans Veronica) to think up the plan.[/spoiler:51ff17a9c6]

Season one:
[spoiler:a1e1a22481]We see that Lily likes to be a bit...risque with her partners. We see that Aaron is violent, abusive, and occasionally loses his shit. We see Aaron has lots and lots of *younger* mistresses. We even see Aaron be a bit creepy with Veronica after she starts dating Logan, which I took as him hitting on her, but could see why other peple just thought it was creepy.[/spoiler:a1e1a22481]
I'd say season one was pretty good with the evidence.
Episode 1 of Season 3 was a little hokey. I like Wallace's new room mate and the story of the ep was VM-lite - maybe to bring a few new people slowly. It was interesting to see what happened to Dick though
As to the lack of evidence, I figured out who the killers were in S1 and S2 by about the midseason mark. Each time, my wife told me I had to be wrong, and lo, I was not. So the evidence is there.

I tihnk they're going to pull a S5 Angel with this show and make it a lot more newbie acessible for the first few episodes to draw people in.
I think season 1 might be one of my favorite seasons of any shows ever. It had a great story arc with a good ending that answered and raised just the right amount of questions.
Having said that, after a few episodes of season 2, I stopped watching. It was just so awful and I didn't want to 'de-value' the perfection of the first episode. I made that mistake once, when I watched the two matrix sequels.
Now, I've kept watching Lost despite the godawful most of season 2, and the last episodes gave me enough hope to continue. Can the same be said for Veronice Mars? Because if so, I might give season 2 a proper try...
Season 1 really was perfect.
Albaniac, I pretty much liked Season 2. There was one sublot that took up a couple episodes that was pretty dumb
[spoiler:d708c6b752]olo we got ur baby[/spoiler:d708c6b752]
but otherwise it was approximately as good as the first season. Some of my favorite episodes are from S2. If anything it's worth it just to know what's going on in Season 3 (assuming they don't screw it up).
She described in intimate detail what she likes to do and/or wear in the bedroom. I remember vaguely that being tied up was included in the conversation. Nothing like dildo sodomy, but a start.
Most guests on radio talk shows are rather reserved, but she was totally open. So was Wilmer Valderama (sp?) on the Howard Stern show. Hilarity.

I was hoping she was into pegging; then my fantasies will be complete.

It's like Jim Rockford came back from the grave with a smoking rack.

Freaky how? Like she wants to put on a strap-on and screw me in da butt?
Dammit, I was willing to wrtie this off as crap for my girlfriend to watch, untill I saw this.
Joss Whedon proclaims Veronica Mars as being the best show ever. You know you want to see it.

You know, I'm still not convinced I want to see this. Can someone give me a little more info?
I loved Firely. I can't stand Buffy and Angel. I think I may pass on this.
Joss doesn't write or direct it, it's just his opinion. Kevin Smith feels the best way, IIRC.
Summary: Hot chick solves mysteries with the help of a smart young cast (and her awesome dad) using whitty dialogue and all-around awesomeness.
