Multiplayer X-Com

UFO 2000 - You need to have the original X-Com somewhere on your hard drive.
Wiki - With important information, such as the fact that you need to press F4 on the match settings screen to outfit your squad.

You can set up your squad offline by starting a hotseat game. Every item is worth a certain amount of points, and you have to keep your point total under the limit set by the server. There are also weapon sets, and you can only use items from the currently active set. I've arbitrarily decided that we should use the "Modified X-Com Weapons" set and the point limit should be 10,000 for now.

Let's do this!

oh holy shit I want in so badly.

Wonder how long it's going to take for a guy make a set up with a bunch of red shirts with pistols and grenades and one guy decked out with flying armor and heavy plasma.

I love how this is the second response. I'm amazed it wasn't the first.

There are chryssalids, but I can't figure out how to make them attack.

Come on. I know you assholes like X-Com. Let's play it. I've got Sunday afternoon free and I don't feel like going out, so I'll play anyone who posts in the thread.

I'm gonna download it now but I dunno if there's any more thorough details or what.

Same name as here for whenever I do get it setup.

Well, that was fun. Special mention goes to Sir William Smith, who singlehandedly welcomed a third of the enemy team to earf before going down in a blaze of glory while surrounded on all sides. If the rest of my team had been half as competent as he was, I might not have lost so badly.

Does bravery matter? I noticed it defaults everybody to 0.

Everybody has 100 bravery and 50 health. There are some other weird limitations too, like you can't have a strength below 25 for some reason. No idea why.

Does anyone still play Laser Squad Nemesis? How does that stack up to X-Com (as far as combat goes)?

Apparently you have to pay a monthly fee, so it doesn't matter how good it is, nobody will ever play it.

Yeah... It wouldn't be so bad if they released major updates now and then, like they were intending. I don't think I've seen any new units or races for at least a year or so. I'm not sure if they are even tweaking the stats of what's already there either.

Still, I did buy the boxed set a ways back...

Have you guys not seen www.lasersquadnemesis.com ? The true multiplayer successor to XCom. Sadly, now in its heyday with Julian Gollop residing somewhere in Bulgaria but its still running, and bursting with true XComlike awesomeness. It really deserves its own thread!

Yes, in fact, I saw it most recently three posts above yours.

Installing this now BTW. I've always wanted to try it but never had anyone to play with.
