Because of my living situation, I don't have time to return to my apartment between classes. So I usually have a ton of stuff I need to take with me: laptop (15.4 widescreen, with charger because it's terrible), smallish tupperware or two, nalgene, binder (small), one or two english anthologies, another notebook or small moleskine, and something I'm forgetting.
So, I know all about
Chrome bags. I am interested in their Soma and also the Duma. The Soma is really what I'd like, but it's too small, I think. I really just wonder if anyone has any experience with the Duma? I want something that I can pack a lot into but won't be too bulky.
For reference, I know about Timbuk2, but I'm not sure if they're big enough. Plus, chrome's lifetime guarantee is really nice.
Any anecdotes about similar bags would swell, too. $140 (minus shipping) is probably the limit.

One thing to consider is that over-the-shoulder type bags are really uncomfortable if you throw a few textbooks in them. With a couple textbooks, a laptop, and all your other stuff, you're going to be pushing 50-lbs. You might want to look at a backpack type bag.
It's a Targus. This one, in fact.
I like it a lot. Mine's constantly got a rainsuit in the second-smallest pocket so I can't be totally sure on the textbook carrying capacity, but I've never been wanting for space in the pack itself. The main problem I have is sometimes when it's full it's hard to fit in the milk crate in my bike. Description mentions standard screens but I'm pretty sure mine is widescreen (1280x800) and it fits just fine.
Also, get a smaller laptop.
TJ Max and Marshall's... I guess if I felt like driving to Columbus...
oh,
and the reason why I have to take a laptop is because I edit articles for a student-run magazine, so if any of that stuff were to get found on a library PC I'd probably get my shit ruined.

It's fairly massive, I carry around the equivalent of of a couple hard cover text books, one or two note books, a couple Tupperware containers, small iPod pack, random papers, water bottle full of tea, and still have a good chunk of room. It's pricey but It's definitely worth it in my opinion.
