Fall stuff! The first week in October has a billion show airing... so new thread! Feel free to discuss other shows airing and compare/contrast/recommend/whatever past shows.

I'll update this thread with winter stuff as solid information starts getting released.

There's more that's not included (oh boy! New season of Pokemon!) and a few more shows that air later in October or November. I refer you back to the uber montage.

Not much comedy at all honestly outside of Nodame, Manabi and Hidamari, all of which I imagine will take specific bends of the mind to appreciate. Lots of OVAs airing though, so there'll probably be quite a few things to watch.

I'd just like to reiterate: Fuck this season. If most or all of the shows I'm interested in are good, I'll have no free time to post here. If few to none are good, I'll be very disappointed. Also, Mendoi has time to bitch about people impersonating them, but not time to sub Inukami apparently.

Heh. Silly Mendoi kind of dropped off the face of the earth.

Anyway, to reiterate what was at the end of the last thread...

The new GA gets my :^: for general style and music and the like, but in a show like that, I'm not even going to try to watch it raw. Seems like more or less the same as the first season only in one ep chunks instead of two. Looks like it may actually have a very VERY loose plot this time around (as opposed to the angels dying or blowing up the universe multiple times in the first series), but one ep is a poor sample size.

Cordo d'Oro is also apparently mediocere at best. Class musical club plus a magical fairy that summons a magic violin or something. *shrug* If any of the impressions I've read were positive I might pay more attention.

New thread for a new season! Other than Bartender and Red Garden, nothing catches my attention much. In fact a lot of the action, shounen, and romance shows look horrible. I am curious about Kanon, since Aro says it's the best of the dating sims/visual novels. However I've never made it past halfway into one of these shows, with AIR and KGNE being the longest. I mean I absolutely loved the atmosphere in AIR, finding it nostalgic, mysterious, and lonely. I loved that whole blue sky motif. However I found myself utterly bored with the main character. He felt like a blank piece of wood with no personality or distinct motives. While that may work in a game where the player imposes personality and rationale, where there is no input the character's actions seem arbitrary and passive. I'm currently disliking the character designs for Kanon, but I will check it out.

EDIT: Oh right, impressions from shows ending/beginning last season.
H&C: I disliked the ending, but loved the show. Poor Takemoto.
Strawberry Panic: Stupid stupid stupid. I can't believe I watched all of this.
    Simoun: Much love, favourite.
L'Chevalier D'eon: I'm actually enjoying it. Occult mysteries, political intrigue, pre-revolutionary France, fun stuff. I can't wait till D'eon crosdresses, he's very attractive as Lia.
FLAG: I'm watching it mainly for the directorial style, but if they don't start moving the plot along I'll get bored.

That's actually a really funny complaint to have with Air.

[realspoiler:2f350896f4]Yukito sacrifices himself to try to save Misuzu when she starts dying and he's a crow for most of the last half. :P [/realspoiler:2f350896f4]

I like Yuuichi though. He's nowhere near as charismatic as... say... Kyon, but if they follow the original, which they probably will, he will be a lot of the general clueless nice guy, although he does pick on Ayu a lot and he and Makoto have a lot of antipathy towards each other for a long time. And I'm not even going to bother defending Nayuki or Shiori. Those two are boring and lame.

If you can remember the first ep of Air, that's what the general tone of Kanon is like for the most part, though of course there are quite a few twists from the obvious (you're lame Shiori) to the a lot more creative and well written.

 Oh, wow. Well I just spoiled Air for myself because I actually never made it that far. If that's true then how does the rest of the series play out without a main character able to interact with all the girl's? I should probably watch the rest, since the piqued my curiosity.

[realspoiler:cf352e4ebe]It spends about three or four episodes in the far past explaining the origin of Misuzu's curse before flipping back to the present and showing a summary of the events with now-crow Yukito changing things (he is reborn as a crow just before Misuzu meets him in human form) and some new things from different angles. The last arc deals mostly with Misuzu and Haruka becoming a family or the like.[/realspoiler:cf352e4ebe]

It's certainly an ending, and while it fits the show in a lot of ways, I don't like it. And I did leave a couple very important events out of that summary, so there's still stuff left if you do go back and watch it.

Kanon and Busou are being watched sight-unseen due to their pedigree. Also, D.gray and Deathnote are reccomended to me by an old flame of mine so I'll be looking at them as well.

I may need a second hard drive soon.

MEGA EDIT: I am seeing things on the Internets that indicate GITS:SAC has gotten a third season. I demand elaboration.

Are you talking about Solid State Society? Because that was just a one shot OVA, and I didn't hear much positive about it other than "it was more GitS."

    Late edit:
And don't come into Kanon expecting more Haruhi wackiness. The show looks beautiful, but it's a romance/drama at heart, and while there is some supernatural stuff throughout, it's more based on Yuuichi recovering his lost memories and helping the girls through their lives.

I've been actually purchasing the Death Note manga religiously, although Volume 7 upset me [spoiler:3fdd709c4c]but I think I'm being pre-mature about L's death, don't ruin it for me if you've read the rest![/spoiler:3fdd709c4c]

I commend the series for giving me a pro/antagonist that I hate and want to see very dead.

Oh I'm fully aware of what it is, I saw some of the old Kanon back in the day when I actually attended the local anime club. This is KyoAni doing it, though, so I have no DOUBT that it will be gorgeous.

This was definitely a rumor going around, although several podcasts I listen to have debunked it.

Who knows, if the show was popular and makes some $ with DVD sales, I wouldn't be surprised. To be honest, I'd rather it didn't happen. I liked it perfectly the way it is.

Since I'm a Shounen Jump fan (don't look at me *hiss*), I'm looking forward to the new SJ shows, but I'll keep my eye on whatever the community says is good. However, the show I'm most looking forward to is Katekyo Hitman Reborn! If it's true to the manga, it should be really fun. A baby assassan, a reserrected highschooler running around in his underpants, and a guy with immediate access to ungodly amounts of dynamite, what's not to love? And that was just from the first 5 chapters of the manga.

I like Galaxy Angel, I think I've got all four seasons.

I <3 GA too, although it occasionally does have some really REALLY atrocious episodes. Thankfully, I can just skip/delete them and pretend like they never existed. I already am adoring Kahlua/Tequila and it should go without saying that I approve of Milfuelle's spiritual successor Apricot. I do miss Ranpha, Chitose and Milfuelle, but I approve of the cast thus far. Quite a bit more high energy and less generally lazy than the first troupe, but one episode is a poor sample size, so *shrug*. I have faith in Broccoli that they'll keep it entertaining and that Madhouse will be up to their usual animation standards so now I guess I just hope someone subs it with decent speed.

I just checked a couple shows very briefly, but Love Idol looks like an immediate pass. It reminded me of Love Love, only without the fanservice (ie, the only thing that made Love Love watchable) and constant cheesy J-pop singing. *shrug* Art and animation is pretty boring/lame too. Not horrible, but certainly the lower end of mediocere. I guess if you adore sugary J-pop stuff, probably worth checking out, otherwise... blech.

Skimmed briefly through Tokimemo too. :^: I have hopes for it. It opens with our hapless hero wearing cat ears and being chased through the school by guys wearing bunny ears, multicolored afros and other things along those lines. Plus the ninja doctor's in there too and the killer Piyoko. And of course The Tree. A little unimpressed with the OP and ED, but seems fine for now at least. It's not amazing by any stretch, but it's about what I optimistically expected, so :^: for ep 1. I'll give it a closer watch later.

For those who are watching ongoing series in filler hell, both Bleach and Naruto are moving one night later in the week.

Well, with Bleach it's more like Filler Pergatory.

Seriously. The only genre that's absent is Slice of Life and even it may be present in some of the shows(Bartender?).

Pumpkin Scissors is my early pick for best anime since Haruhi...don't ask me why, because I am probably going to be wrong...still, it has the best title in a long time.

Man, I need more impression and screencap type posts. Brief summaries and Japanese websites don't really do it for me.

Pumpkin Scissors looks cool, I'll give it a try. Right now I'm watching Eureka 7 and Rahxephon. I really need to watch more Rahxephon, I haven't touched the series in a month. I hear it gets better after episode 13 or so, but the earlier episodes have really pissed me off. The main character doesn't show any emotion.

Hm. I'll wait for a few episodes before taking the plunge on that one, but it looks excellent.

So uh, I couldn't think of a more appropriate place to ask this, so I'll mess up your lovely thread anime guys :P

There's this anime, I don't think it was particularly popular outside of Japan (if it even came outside of Japan), it used to be on primetime, once a week in Japan in 2004. It was medieval Japan with swordfighters and such, and the main character was this dude named Yakumo (I think) and he wore like.. blue pants and a white top? And I'm pretty sure he had a ponytail. And there was a girl who had a sword.

Anyway the reason I ask is because the ED theme was kickass and I want to hear it but I can't for the life of me remember the name of this anime. Any ideas? :P

And to be somewhat on topic, I haven't really watched any anime in ages. I recently watched Haruhi and enjoyed it but before that the last thing I watched was probably Chobits, before that Evangelion, and that's about it. What are some good picks for watching.. say... .... n.......n....NOW!

Shura no Toki? Had a male lead name Yagumo at any rate.

I don't really follow new and ongoing series, since there are enough old, kickass series waiting for me to watch. I have a friend who follows Air Gear and he almost cried when he heard it got cancelled. I just laughed at him.

I did follow Bleach which, while a bit drawn out, was pretty satisfying, until the fillers arrived. It confuses me greatly when all the otherwordly powers they've been showing, it's completely useless when a different story arc appears. Where have I seen this before?

Of the ones I've recently finished was Abenoshi Shopping Arcade, which was a crazy rollercoaster ride. Episode 2, 3 and 4 were downright hilarious, but it kind of went downhill from there. It reminded me a lot of FLCL, not so surprising, the same studio made it after all.

Scrapped Princess was endearing. Character development was handled much better than say Full Metal Alchemist. The ending felt a bit rushed though, dedicating only one episode for the final aftermath. There was one heartwrenching moment, actually two, that made me awfully sad.

Mahoraba was excellent. It got off a rusty start, but if you didn't know already, I love character development and it did a top-notch job at that. It's pretty much a feel-good anime which I have no problem with. Some characters were getting on my nerves all the time though, actually it's just Tamami and Chiyuri, but in the end all was forgiven for having such a nice ending.

Sorry, it looks more like I'm blogging haha.

I liked the start of Scrapped Princess, then I got irritated by the rest of it for springing mecha and bubble world nonsense on me.

Mahoraba is <3 and I suggest checking out the manga too because it's even more <3.

Yume Tsukai gets the :v: from me. The first three or so minutes were good, but it went straight down after that. I think I stopped at about 10:45.

I thirst for Bartender. I must have some vague idea of what it is.
