I have a bachelor in chemistry. Did my thesis on NMR, which is pretty damn nifty, with the huge magnets and the tiny tubes of very expensive proteins.

I don't work in any related industry though (As I learned during my studies, I hate labwork because I have no patience). For some reason I keep getting jobs in the financial sector, I guess they trust me with numbers and computers and stuff.

I prefer not to have to worry about how what I do will actually relate to the real world. I know that what I do might be good for diabetic implants, but I'm glad I don't have to fuck about actually designing the bits that may or may not kill people.

it's biology at a cellular level, with a chemical approach. so reaction dynamics and enzyme kinetics with a major focus on the interaction between the molecules themselves rather than the qualitative approach biology takes. it's pretty neat. i get to learn all sorts of nifty things like muscle action, photosynthesis, the reaction pathways that keep us alive and fun stuff like carbohydrate, protein, and lipid chemistry.

as with most science degrees, you can uh, do almost anything. i wanted to be a virologist/microbiologist when i first started but later decided on flavor/food chemistry (gogo good eats)

as for studying, you never stop.

my engineers are all hysterical and really outgoing people
also i am friends with a really hot chick who is a computer engineer.
not computer science, computer engineering it looks hard and mathy and she's really outgoing and parties like crazy

that's the other thing about engineers
they drink and drink and party and act ridiculous, then study really really hard between bouts of binge drinking

oh yes, we had happy hour in the computer lab most every night, not to mention some of the maths only made sense after a couple of drinks

even now most professional engineering get togethers are puncutated by massive drinking and ridiculous antics
