so why RB2? what does RB2 have that couldn't be done with RB1 DLC?
Because Microsoft/Sony wouldn't allow such a big downloadable patch for free.
who said anything about free? you have to pay for RB2, why not just pay for the DLC?
I don't understand what you're arguing.
DLC is compatible with both games so you can stick with Rock Band 1 if none of the changes interest you.
He's suggesting that they should have attempted to produce a DLC patch to upgrade the RB1 engine to be just like RB2. And that it would apparently be worthwhile to charge money for such a large engine upgrade. And that even doing such a thing is such an easy thing to do... You know, providing a large patch that remodels the way the game looks and acts...
Additionally, I think introducing a patch for RB1 to "RB2 it" would create more problems than it would fix. If you tried to play online together, but one person had the patch and another didn't, Lord knows what would happen.

On the 360 at least, the most recent patches are required for online play. If you don't acccept it, it'll kick you off Live.

But if this were a paid patch—an upgrade, essentially—you couldn't force people to accept it. And I don't know if it would differentiate between vanilla RB1s and RB1.5s. And then you'd send invites and people would have to respond "Sorry, didn't buy it" and such.
The changes are substantial enough—online upgraded BWT, tiered Challenges, Battles of the Bands, cross-instrument characters with new clothing items—to warrant a new disc, IMO, and considering you can import 98 percent of the songs from RB1 I don't know if it makes any operational difference.

Well, it's possible to provide a kind of patch that allows non-upgrade players to play with those who who have. At least MARVEL: Ultimate Alliance has this for their DLC heroes and villains packs.
But that's a case of adding content (or unlocking the on-disc content...) and allowing others to at least play with those heroes selected. Rock Band has never allowed people to play songs online that they didn't own.
I hadn't even realized the drummer actually does the cymbal triple hits with one hand, I had to go look. He does the toms with both hands, but does certainly do the cymbals with only his right. Demonstrative of how much realistic bounce makes a huge difference, I guess. I wonder if the drumrocker cymbals are bouncy.. they look like they'd be pretty dead, unfortunately.
They're not bad. A lot depends on the placement and how they're angled. The cymbals were definitely my biggest disappointment, but they get the job done.

Okay, so knowing nothing at all about AC/DC, can someone explain to me why the fuck "and you can hear the fingers pickin" is said like a goddamn redneck?
I have a birthday and christmas coming up and combining them together I might be able to get Rock Band. I've not really paid a lot of attention to it since I haven't had the money so now I have some questions.
First off is rockband 2 actually out now? And how much does it cost with all the instruments (minus that huge armored tank drum set I saw in the op) but with a regular toy drum thing.
I have a 360 thats not a problem. I just need to find the price on it. I think I saw it for like 189 is there a better price somewhere else? I have no music games currently and I figure Rock Band 2 would be the thing to get.

The standalone game is out right now for the Xbox 360. There are also standalone instruments available for the 360 as well.
The PS3 and 360 bundles will be available on the 19th of October. As far as pricing goes, the game is $60, new guitar is $70 and the drums are about $70. The bundle should be around $170-$180, I think.
Amazon is taking pre-orders and offering a few deals.
Rockband 2 is out now only as a standalone game and only for the Xbox 360.
So the game is $60, and the new RB2 instruments are, IIRC, $80 for the wireless guitar and $90 for the wireless drums. (I don't know if the new mic is out yet.) If you want you can also use the RB1 instruments just fine with the RB2 game, and those are considerably cheaper (I think about $50 each nowadays), and you can also use any 360 Guitar Hero controllers or USB microphones.
I think in October, the full package of game+mic+guitar+drumset will be out for $180.

Foreign based band has a singer that sounds like an American? No way!
I don't think they're doing a new first party microphone. They were strutting around the Mad Catz Mic+GamePad thing at E3 but (thankfully) not at PAX. I've heard that thing is pretty heavy.
I think the charting engine has changed a bit too. I just saw Hands Down on youtube and during the stairs in the chorus there are hammer ons that are not available in the RB1 chart. It's not just limited to the HOPO chords it seems.
They haven't changed the Snow ((Hey Oh)) chart at all (for better or for worse). I was wondering if they might make those hammer-ons since there was so much griping.
I hate going to hard just to not fail within 15 seconds. And even then I still suck at alt strumming single notes up and down the fret board. I beat most songs on expert in the high 90's and I think I still get in the 80's on that song on hard. It just wrecks me.

AC/DC is foreign? I didn't know that.
Whatever the hell you're saying here though, still isn't really answering my question. I mean, the guy says every other line normal, just the one line sounds like he's trying to sound like a redneck.

Australian.
No idea.
Edit: in the music video he rolls his eyes when he sings that line
I think he was just being silly dude.
Not to instill some logic into the man's phrasing, but perhaps he says it that way because finger-picking is in some respects the traditional playing method of rural folk music, i.e. rednecks.

Well, it could be that they were trying to bring a kind of southern US influence to that part of the vocals. What with "fingers pickin'" kinda almost sorta maybe referring to banjos...of the dueling variety.
And considering it's originally an Australian-based band where three members were actually Scots immigrants, it could muddy their accents just a tiny bit. To the point where whatever the hell it is, that is just sounds like southern-US to Americans. Also, there are plenty of instances where a non-American singer (usually of the UK or OZ variety) might end up sounding like a more generic American accent whilst singing.
And heaven forfend that a Scots immigrant in an Austrailian band suddenly sounds different when growling a single line in a song, right?
Or it could be that a singer in a band that is using a sound very heavily based on Blues might just be using an inflection to match the overall effect...

Easy!
It seems so much easier.
SO much easier.
I need drums now.

Anyways. The chart is a lot easier. Maybe I'm better.
Still an amazing song by an amazing band.

I think he's trying to start and arguement about why we needed RB2, when we could have just had 84 DLC songs.
The answer to said arguement being, it is just a GUI upgrade plus and 84 song "pack" for 60 bucks. which is better pricing than most DLC songs.
Also, the online play is heavily improved. Online world tour, battle of the bands and challenges.
Sure, it probably could have been all DLC, but really, that just seems like a giant chunk of data i'd rather not having taking up space on my HDD.

Probably good for people whose entertainment centers don't have much room but do have a conveniently place table.
Strangely, it looks to be more quiet and more solid than a standard kit..

They'll just cost an arm and a leg.
