Something where I can customize characters (good party control) and such.
I don't carry much for story, just the ability to fight and tweak out my characters.
Every JRPG, or rpg for that matter, I can think of for the computer is much more story focused than character building. Most of the character building ones aren't turned based. Or not true turn based. Have you tried Knights of the Old republic? Older more ff examples would be Septerra Core and Anachronox. But those are older and you'd have compatibility issues on a newer computer. And really there's not much character building to speak of but those are the FF style ones. Patching and stuff would be required and a massive pain. You may want to look at Might and magic if you haven't before. 7,8 and 9 were fairly satisfying.

feh... all the good RPG's have awesome stories and shit party character control.
But I think the Baulders Gate series, and Planescape Torment are all excellent... but probably don't offer the party control you want.
And maybe I'm drunk, but did the FF series really even offer that good of party control? Which FF are you even referring to?

I took what he said to mean stat building. And most every one has had some form or another of that. 1, 3 and 4 are the only ones I can think of that don't let you tweak your character's stats to one degree or another.

bah... I never considered materia equipping a quality form of stat adjusting.

The Witcher is well worth a try, if you check the thread in G&T you can pick up the new Enhanced Edition for $30 direct to drive, or instore for $40 I believe.
I'm looking for a good RPG on the PC.

Kind of like old school FF series.
thoughts?
Pretty much a summary of the Icewindale series
Alternatively, the upcoming NWN expansion, Storm of Zethir

Thank god you posted that. I was sitting here trying my hardest to think of Icewind Dale and couldn't get the name to come to mind. I was about to post "those games that are like baldur's gate and planescape: torment but are something else".
If you don't mind shit poor graphics and an impossibly hard game, Darklands offers a lot of options on character and party control.
Holy shit, someone else who played Darklands! I thought we were all wiped out!
Rhino, Darklands is exactly what you're looking for. Fantastic character customization, tons of stuff to do, and plenty of fighting. It's still my very favorite RPG.

The old Might and Magic games are pretty entertaining. I'm replaying through 7 now. I got it and 6 and a two pack for 10 bucks a couple years ago. I'm sure you coul dfind it somewhere.
I have yet to finish Septerra Core- but I really really really liked that game. Maybe it was the concept that blew my mind, but I found it to be a solid product and didn't understand why it didn't sell more. You could probably steal it and Interplay wouldn't care. Hell are they around any more?
Does Morrowind count as an RPG? Regardless, play it, it's awesome.
ADOM is pretty sweet too... but I don't think I've ever gotten very far being that you can't save and every third potion is poisoned. I suppose if you're good you can do a lot of cool stuff, like wander around with a whole army of undead ASCII characters.
Thirding (fourthing?) Icewind Dale. I found the first one and its expansion to be tremendously enjoyable. The story consists of a long series of McGuffins - go to this dungeon to find that thing, oh look a clue drops from the last boss leading you to the next dungeon, then something happens that sends you on to another dungeon, etc - but the character creation is full D&D 2.5E glory. I swear I spent more time creating characters than I did playing the game. Rolling for stats, assigning proficiencies, coming up with names and backstories... so much fun.
I have always found that the less information I'm force-fed about a character, the more I like them. Baldur's Gate was great, don't get me wrong, but I never really felt like I was controlling anything. Random people kept wandering in and either tried to assassinate me, or lectured me about my fate and choices and shit. So yeah, Devin the super-serious human priest raised by Gorion and intended for some high dark destiny was a badass dude, but I just didn't care about him half as much as I cared about Tiber Rourke, the feckless half-elf all-drunk fighter who washed up on the shores of Lac Dinneshere after a series of wild and mostly unspoken adventures down south.
If you want custom chars, I liked both Oblivion and Gothic 3. No parties on those though, well, not much anyway. Deus Ex is decent in that regard as well. I liked M&M Messiah, but its a huge pig on resources.
Word up on KOTOR for party management, so, so much fun.
Arcanum is way underrated. It's actually better than Fallout, though arguably a poorer game. It's stable if you get the patch though. Get Arcanum from somewhere!

Aye, and we're supposed to see 3 before the end of the year, so if 1 or 2 strikes your fancy, you'll have something to look forward to.
Other than the ending, KOTORII improves on KOTOR in every way.

Just google 'drakkar'. I played this game maybe... 8 years ago. Super basic graphics but fun once you get going.

Just never leave the first city. You will die.
Also if you are masochistic, Elona.
I START CLASSES TOMORROW!
You bastards.

I could not recommend it more.
