I think the most boring book in the history of books would have to be Dombey and Son by Charles Dickens.

Oliver Twist was a bit dry but I didn't mind it all that much. However, no power on Earth could have made me finish Dombey and Son. It was almost physically painful to read.

If you don't mind books which are heavy on the technical details where the writing can be a little suspect, Kathy Reichs' books are entertaining and worth a look. I haven't read her most recent ones, where apparently she's gone downhill, but her earlier work is at least readable.

    listen guys
let's just be super friends, okay?

after i'm done reading the last twilight book i'm going to read eragon cause it's gotten some hype

the funny thing is, if i'm not reading YA fiction about fantasy shit, I'm reading heavy non-fiction

some of my favorites have been:

Waiting for the Macaws: It's an in-depth (slightly biased) study of extinction, but what's interesting about it is that it does case studies per chapter and one of the case studies is on cultural extinction being caused by greenpeace (fucking extremists...)

The World Without Us: If you haven't read this, read it like... tomorrow, it's fascinating

Guns Germs and Steel: Same as above

Genome: To a lesser extent, same as the above two.

No I hate Paolini for it because he's a complete and total hack. How can you be that much of a hack by accident? You can't, it's impossible. Thus he's aware that he's a hack.

To promote the book, Paolini toured over 135 schools and libraries, discussing reading and writing, all the while dressed in "a medieval costume of red shirt, billowy black pants, lace-up boots, and a jaunty black cap."

also he titled his third book "Brisingr", which means fire in his made-up fantasy language which is named, originally enough, "The Ancient Language"

what I'm saying here is I do hate paolini, because he's a shitty, shitty writer and eragon reads like a fanfiction.net author wished he was tolkein

so, a shitty writer aspired to be another shitty writer with his star wars retelling and failed

No, that's the worst part. He failed to make anything of literary merit, but he succeeded admirably in making sackfuls of money off of his hideous creation. I wish I could make that much money for writing something that terrible, I'd be a multi-billionaire by now.

To get back on topic, though, an excellent historical narrative book that I read recently is called 'Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America', by Erik Larson. It's all about the Chicago World's Fair of 1893, and specifically the serial killer that was using it to find victims. Really well written, and extremely gripping. I recommend it.

I have not read Twilight, but can say with 100% certainty that it is 100% total shit.

Doesn't the vampire guy sparkle? As in, isn't he surrounded by pretty pretty sparklies?

    Good god.

Also! I absolutely abhor using the term, as it is over-used, but the main character sounds like the fucking definition of a Mary-Sue. The only way she could be any more of one is if she were actually named Mary-Sue.

Going by what I have read about the actual contents of the books and other people's opinions of them.
