"And then, Pixie beats GALACTUS! And then, and then, she gets to kiss the totally dreamy new guy that showed up! But look out, Pixie! He has a dangerous secret!"
Returning to the X-titles once again, panelists announced that old villains will make their way back into the books. Apocalypse being a major force returning to the titles.
“The beginning of next year, you’ll be seeing Stryfe, Apocalypse, more of the old villains,” said Cebulski.
"And then, I don't feel like writing Pixie's mom! So she dies! She got hit by three buses! No, FOUR buses! And they were on fire!"
"And Pixie was sad, and she used her teleportation spell to teleport away so no one could find her! And then the X-Men were attacked and they were in trouble but she figures out how to take that sadness and make it strength! So she comes back and saved everyone!"
I kind of hate that they're trying so hard with Pixie. She's an excellent supporting character, and I loved her in New X-Men, but she's just not interesting enough to be the headliner they want her to be.
I don't know. She's been a quasi-mainliner in Uncanny and it hasn't been that terrible.
I don't think she enough meat to support her own series or anything, but she could be put on one of the "teams" like Astonishing or whatever and would probably fare well.

The first arc in the SF move making Pixie take out the bad guy because she was angry and on a scooter was pretty weak.
If Carey can put her as a supporting character in Legacy and just leave her there to build, that would be the best move.
I dunno. I just think they're trying really hard to make her, like, the new generation's Shadowcat. It just seems like it will only be a matter of time until she's a master ninja dual wielding her soul dagger and Mjolnir.
Part of it is probably just bitterness that the actual truly interesting New New X-Men (Dust, Anole, Mercury) are either being used horribly or not at all.

I completely disagree! While I didn't really like her being all, "I want to leave! No, I want to stay! Or leave!"
I thought her "Pixie: X-Man" moment was pretty great. I don't think it was just because it was angry, that dagger thing has been shown to make her a bit darker before.
(It's tragically tiny.)
Not to say I wouldn't love for Carey to write her and help her flourish, though.

I'm with you on Anole and Dust, but Mercury is pretty boring.

I was about to post almost exactly the same thing.

Fraction has pretty much said exactly that regarding the Pixie=nu Kitty.

I think Mercury has really great potential. No one has ever really allowed her to live up to it, though. Even the arc that was allegedly all about her (Mercury Falling) had her pushed to the side because "Hellion and X-23 are so totally awesome you guys look at them they're awesome oh man did you see what they just did so awesome are you awed yet hold on wait wait look at this okay now you're totally awestruck right oh man then you're going to love what they do next"
Okay that was a bit of a tangent. But yes. Mercury is basically the T-1000 and people need to write her being awesome like that.
I am still pissed that the New X-Man team was scratched just as it had gotten over the habit of killing someone every arc and replaced by Young X-Men.
I am still pissed that people still act like they ever actually did that. After Childhood's End (or was it NIMROD? Which arc killed the horrible winged dude) the only character they killed was Mammomax. Was the death of Mammomax really something to mourn. I mean, honestly, if you ask comic fans what a Mammomax is most of them would think it was a bra.

Clearly you don't listen to the Uncanny X-Cast, one of those guys Mammomax
All this talk about Pixie and the New/Young X-Men makes me think about how Generation X got fucked over. Well, most of them.
Jubilee - depowered, no longer in a book.
Chamber - depowered, no longer in a book.
Skin - dead (he was the weakest link of the roster, IMO).
Synch - dead (he was my favorite character of the book, the obvious leader-in-training).
Husk - ? (I think she's still alive, but no longer in a book).
M - in X-Factor.
Penance - ...it's complicated.
Mondo - ?
Blink - 616 version died before Generation X even started. AoA version is with The Exiles.
Faculty -
Banshee - dead.
Emma Frost - Queen of the X-Men.
Gateway - doing Gateway things.
It's sad that the majority of the book's cast are either dead or forgotten. None fit the X-TREEM!!!1!!1 90's mold - most of the cast had unique, interesting personalities, and their powers were a mix of the familiar and slightly offbeat. They also sported the best set of recruit costumes.
I fear that the current group of young mutants will be treated the same way. I haven't followed the books as closely as I'd like, but it seems that Surge is already fading from the books, and someone else mentioned that Anole, Dust, and Mercury seem to be getting pushed to the side as well. The cynic in me wouldn't be surprised if only Pixie (because of the Shadowcat/Jubilee factor) and Rockslide (there's always room for crass, unique looking big men in the 616) were seeing regular action in 3-5 years. I hope I'm wrong, and if I'm not, that an author like Peter David can save the inevitable cast-offs.

Gah, Synch. He was actually a good character, and written as a decent person. So of course he had to die. The way he died wasn't bad, and it gave the series some weight at the end of it, but it's more that "untapped potential gone."

Exactly my feelings. A character whose usefulness is directly impacted by his teammates and his own intelligence. There's a decent amount that could be done on that kind of platform, especially given his personality. Imagine him in Mutant Town before Wanda had her mental breakdown.

Speaking of dead characters, what's up with New Mutants?
I guess I should spoiler it:
Doug-lock is coming back? wtf?
It's more than just him. Marvel is gearing up for a "Blackest Night" style event via X-Force. The phalanx/Bastion have already brought a bunch of old villains/heroes back.

Not sure how Stryfe and Apocalpyse will be appearing though. That kind of contradicts how stuff went down.
I wonder what other "old villains" they're thinking about bringing into the mix.
You win. :P I laughed.
I'm still mad at him for Loners and that Nico one shot.

I didn't even read that because of the previous anger.

Pixie is rad
I mean, she's pretty center stage in this X-Men cover.
Either way, why does it look like Namor is going to punch Psylocke?!

But I suppose if Danielle Moonstar gets her Valkyrie powers back, there would be room for a spot.
Whos on it?
Jubilee, Callisto, Sofia, and Danielle Moonstar.
Basically a Who's-Who of awesome.
Clearly you don't listen to the Uncanny X-Cast, one of those guys
I suppose I could understand if he was something cool, like Pandomax or something!
