Paul Newman, 1925-2008

The iconic Paul Newman has died at the age of 83. He died of cancer at his home in Westport, Connecticut. He was the star of classic films such as "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "The Sting," "The Hustler," and "Cool Hand Luke." He's also the founder of the Newman's Own food company. Never tried the salad dressing, so I can't tell if that's something he'll remembered for also.

R.I.P., Paul Newman.

Newman's Own Limeade is my favorite lime drink product. I've never seen any of his films, so I'll just remember him for his charitable works.

    Rest well, sir.

Let us not forget that he also was an avid supporter of motorsport.

A good man on the whole, his passing is unfortunate.

He was a great actor and a damn fine man, but his food isn't quite as healthy as people like to believe. Even if it was good though, it's kind of sad that most people my age will remember him for that alone instead of his charity, acting, and personality.

Let's hope that others are able to take up the mantle he's left behind. He lived a full life, but the world's worse off with him gone.

    UNACCEPTABLE.

    COOL HAND LUKE

    FUCKING COOL HAND LUKE.

P.S. this totally sucks. Newman was a great actor, a principled person, and a raging badass.

Last night I told my friend that Newman was dead, before correcting myself (I'd misremembered).

Turns out I actually was correct. :-/

I'm thinking that if the D&D Movie Club ever starts up again, the next movie should be a Paul Newman movie. Cool Hand Luke is a movie everyone needs to see.

now that's something you really must rectify. the man brought something special to every role he played. Cool Hand Luke(which alone with others has already been mentioned in this thread), is one of my favourite movies, one that i will watch given any opportunity. look him up on IMDB.com and i'm sure you'll find something that you'll enjoy watching.

I loved Newman in "Cool Hand Luke".

I recently bought Newman's Own Low-fat Asian Dressing, because hey proceeds to charity. It actually wasn't that great and I was severely disappointed. So, in tribute to Paul Newman, I'm going to have a big ass salad. Other than the Asian Dressing, which one is the best tasting? I was looking for something similar to a sesame flavoured dressing.

Never bought the dressings or sauces, not an avid fan of motor sport but I'll always remember the wheelchair chase in 'Silent Movie'.

Loved the fact he was philanthropic and that he was known for being quiet and unassuming. More Hollywood actors and promoters could learn how his quiet authority drew more attention than all the glitz and glamour at their call.

Thanks for being around paul, all those films you were in would have got a star less if you weren't in them.

I hope you, and Steve McQueen and Lee Marvin are all somewhere getting happy drunk.

I'm going to go watch Slap Shot again to remember the better times.

Spoilered for NSFW-ness clip from Slap Shot (a movie that probably could not be made today).
This is starting to really hammer home the "your favorite actors are old and dying" theme that 2008 is giving me. I'm NOT looking forward to the day where I open up my internet and see Eastwood, Nicholson or Freeman gone...

Johnny Chopsocky, It's not necessarily old and dying... there's just a disturbingly high mortality rate this year. ):

A true class act. Besides his classic roles he's also going to be remembered very fondly for Cars. I also loved him in Road to Perdition.

His contributions as a racer were pretty significant, he was way more than just a fan.

Honestly it's the only Newman film I've seen. I know I know, there are about a billion more I should see.

The movie's kind of slow (and I was young when I saw it) but it was well-acted and the characters were developed amazingly.
