Disgaea: For DS or PS2?

K7 AvengerK7 Avenger __BANNED USERS regular
edited November 2008 in Games and Technology
Disgaea was just released for DS a few days ago and I have yet to play any of them. To those that have played them, PS2 or DS? The PS2 version is 19.99 but I'm wondering if I should get it for the portability... any recommendations guys? Thanks!

From what I understand, the DS version is pretty spot on. I'd go with that.

i recommend the ps2. im not really into rpgs on handhelds, something about playing one for that long doesnt sit right with me. i just play my DS at home 90% of the time anyway though. if you play yours out and about maybe things would be different for you.

If you can't get the psp version, then get the DS version.

I don't know anything about either version but I would pick DS for the portability, personally. In fact I am planning on that.

Yeah the portable versions have all the features of the PS2 one and more plus portability. No reason not to get one of the ports.

Oh that's right, the DS one actually has slightly more content than the PS2 one. A secret character and such.

The DS has added stuff from the psp version which has added stuff from the ps2 version. So it has the most content. If you dont mind the smaller screen it is perfectly fine. Though Im sure you will still enjoy the ps2 version as it is a very excellent game.

The PSP version is a flawless port of the PS2 version, and it has more voice acting, so it's the best experience compared to the PS2 one, but the DS version'll do(I still haven't seen it in action).

Ok, I just got disgaea for the DS, and did something stupid. How long do item worlds go? I swear I descended 20 levels before dying.

100 floors. you get a Mr. Gency's Exit when you beat the 10th floor which can be used to exit out at any time. in general its not worth doing the item world until you max out your customer rank and cant buy better weapons though.

Holy shit, Disgaea DS is out already? I guess I'll be buying a copy tomorrow then. :)

    *ahem*

I'd go for the DS version, just so you aren't tethered to a TV.

psp has tv out so best of both worlds.

i have no opnion on either of the three.

i thought item worlds go as far as the item's level? so if it's a level 12 item it goes 12 levels.

no, in D1 and 2 every item has 100 levels. in D3 regular items have 30 levels, rare items have 60 levels, and legendary items have 100 levels.

The Japanese language option was cut from the DS version completely. Also, some of the English voice acting was cut from the DS version, and those lines are now just text only. The DS version does have unlockable Prinny commentary though which is pretty damn sweet, plus extra characters and stages. I'm not sure about the specs for the PSP version.

The important thing is that you win, whichever one you buy. Disagea is the biggest and best SRPG timesink in the whole damn history of gaming.

If I had to choose again, I'd pick Disgaea for the PS2, actually, just because I love playing shit on the big TV. I personally can't stand a lot of the English voice-acting, so it's also really nice to have the Japanese track available, which the DS lacks. If I had to pick a portable one, I'd pick the DS one though, because it has more extras.

EDIT: And yes, you win no matter what.

Fairly high, though the PSP one has stuck around, I don't think the DS one will.

Disgaea 1 uses the normal/rare/legendary floor stratification, too. I'm sure D2 does as well.

Ok just got the game (Stupid customs goits stompin' on my buyin' like they want the ecomony to fail) and I've just cleared up the practice map.

So I'm going in to Create my minons and I have ... 3 mana on Laharl...bugger... oh well, press on, so who should I get for my team so I can not waste hours on end trying to level up a healer who can only level up by killing stuff? (unless they Retroactively put in the LV Up system from Disgaea 2 which thank god if they have done so).

Also, can I get New Game + by losing to Mid Boss? Cuz Plinear sounds nice to have and all but I Just want to be sure.

Capcom is actually about to rerelease Disgaea as a Greatest Hits game on the PS2, so if you'd rather play that one, it should be available soon. I'm not sure of the exact release date, but if it's not available now it should be coming down.

GameStop has already dropped their price for used copies to $20.

oh hmm. i just checked the D2 strategy guide and youre right. for some reason i just had that completely wrong in my mind all these years. i guess because i never bothered finishing out an item world on any regular items? dunno.

also, if the Japanese voices are cut on the portable versions then you really really should get the PS2 version.

    It's already Greatest Hits.

I ordered a copy for a friend from Hasting's the other day and it came in the Greatest Hits box.

Beefy fighter types, use as many as you want. To make an offensive healer, make her, then have her kill one enemy to earn 1 mana. Use her to create a mage pupil (fire, ice, wind, whatever). If she's standing next to the pupil, she can learn skills from it, and can naturally pick up offensive magic. She won't have any problem killing then.

So how long would it take for my healer to learn the skill?

one level up is like 10 uses? or 3. Or 87. I forget. Anyways, there's no way it's more than 10 for the first level.

Out of curiosity, has anyone here ever imported games from the US to europe? Because this game may get me to do this. The dollar is real low, so that'll pay for some of the shipping costs etcet. But I just tried it with Amazon.com, and they wouldn't ship to the Netherlands (said it was restricted, but not why).
