Annnnnnd that's why I transfered off it. I was getting sick of it on my 3rd alt I was trying to get to 70. For 4 weeks straight, when I had time to log in, and do the VC escort quest, someone would kill him right before the end. So I'd wait 5 minutes, and it'd happen again. Finally I just said fuck this and transferred all my characters off. Best $160 I ever spent.

Ugh, pvp is the bane of escort quests. I was so happy to do my escort quests on a PVE server.
Then I tried to do the escort quest in sunspring post, where the mob you escort is not flagged (and will aggro on players of the opposite faction). After the 3rd time the Draenei shaman killed the Mag'har captive I was praying he'd screw up and flag himself.

We're still doing them. I got my ram last night, giving me one of every one of his drops.
It's probably still being run regularly by Alliance, but our Horde presence on Kargath is comparatively weak. I haven't seen Orgrimmar this barren since just before TBC.

What's with all the PvP angst? Am I the only one that gets a righteous high from switching to my main and camping the 70s that try to camp my alts? It's one of the most satisfying feelings in the world. Like justice incarnate. PvP servers are tops.

It can be great. i hopped on my hunter and served justice with a side of freedom fries last night because it was obvious I wasn't going to get any leveling done. However, when you have an hour to play and spend half of it running back to your corpse (which does happen, and often enough that it's worth mentioning) PvP servers get significantly less fun.
You can say "switch to a main and kill them," or "log off and do something else," but when I get home and all I want to do is level my alt every time I get ganked is less time that I'm spending having fun. I need that time =P

No that's completely justified. It's just the mechanics of the servers are largely broken. But that's true for most "PvP" servers. I think DAoC was the only one that really nailed PvP and "Normal" servers before their "frontiers" shit.
"You can totally level to 50 without doing any PvP, or hey, there's zones where we give you shit tons more experience but you have to deal with the possible buttfuck and gank"
Their PvP server was a little intense, though, not sure if I'd wrap it as a gank. Animists were god of those things though.
Blizzard was trying to achieve something that was completely destroyed by the lack of hindrance against people that are too high for it. There needs to be a punishment system in place and I'm not talking the "occasional gank" but more along the lines of people who gank with no other purpose but ganking.
Gank.

You are lucky. Only one of the four PvP servers I've played was I not constantly facing ?? dickery--and it had a WORSE problem. My faction outnumbered the other something ridiculous like 7:1, and it showed. That was also not fun.
(I think that one was...Coilfang, IIRC)
Ah. I used to have fun on my main in STV stealth-following my brethren(without letting them know) and popping out of nowhere to save the day during an obvious gank. Maybe I'll do that again for shits...

Gank.
Well now that you mention it, a better PvP system would be just to make any player ten levels or lower than you unflagged unless they attack first. They can call it Honor PvP or something. That way level capped players won't even consider going to lowbie zones when they're bored.
Buh?: I was in LFG last night, and one of the parties consisted of a 26 rogue and a ?? mage. I /who'd and /whispered the mage, but got the 'no such player' response. Guess it was a GM running him through BFD.

I must have missed the slight difference amongst all the abloo abloo.
Ganking is pretty awesome when the guy attempting to do it thinks he's hot shit but is completely inept.
"Oh hey, you tried to kill my 53 character with your lvl 62 and you're dead but I'm not? Whoops!"
It would also prevent you from revenge killing somebody 9 levels higher than you but 10+ levels power than your main who just won't stop ganking you.
You should be free to make a conscious decision to ruin somebody's day, there just should be repercussions for it.
Yeah GMs wisely made it a non-reportable offense. Also, what's the difference between someone who's flagged yellow (like at Ratchet) and red (contested zones). Either way, you can still hit them.

When someone's yellow to you, you can hit them but they can't hit you because to them, you're blue.

Yellow means that they're flagged and you're not. Attacking from this state on my realm was coined as "blue walling", because it was often done as a group of people, and their names were blue (at the time), to indicate their non-flagged status.
Yeah bitches, being flagged on a pvp server is nothing, try being flagged on a pve server. You guarantee them the first strike, if they feel like it, uncontested.

If you've killed the same person three times in the past 15 minutes or so, you both become "immune" to each other for some amount of time. This would be in world PvP only.
I suppose there would also have to be some level difference requirement because you will probably actually want to keep battling people around your level for control of the area. At least there'd be hope in trying.
I would only propose such a thing because I play off-peak hours quite a bit. When I start getting ganked and camped, there's not always someone around willing to help me. Not the worst problem in the world--just annoying.
Oh, well. Nothing similar will ever be implemented and it's not too huge of a deal, anyways.
Probably too difficult to implement, and would be a clusterfuck depending on class balance.
Oh look, you've been killed by a druid 3 times. Now he's immune to you, and you're immune to him, but his warrior buddy isn't immune to his heals.
Enjoy!

One of my best world-pvp memories from playing on Lightninghoof (an RP-PvP server) was when me and Sidely were heading to RFD to try and get some gear from the spider-boss at the beginning for when I hit 40. We were alliance, so this is pretty deep in horde territory, they aren't even flagged until they strike you first.
Well, a ?? hunter comes riding past us on his mount, sees the two of us grossly under his level (no 40 = no MS :<) and decides for some assdickery.
Sidely and I proceed to tear the guy a new asshole and camp his corpse until we get bored.
