I have such an awsome idea for what to send but the total cost is getting close to $100, something I have no problem with but something in the back of my mind is warning me about the whole "but keep in mind that you might end up getting a $10 action figure from your Santa." thing.
I think it depends entirely on how much x-mas cheer you want from your santee and how much you want in return. There are gonna be many people who's gift has a much higher value then what they receive, it entirely depends on the person.
Remember, price of the gift shouldn't matter, it's how much it makes the santee happy.

Think of it in terms of kharma. If somebody buys you an awesome present and you get your guy a cheap ass gift, you will likely feel bad anyway.
I say go middle of the road. You get what you give in the long run anyway M I RITE?
I think my post now makes it look like I'm telling my santa "you better fuckin give me an expensive present!"

I won't lie. As a pretty broke guy about to move out on his own for the first time in his life, I would love if I got something expensive, like any of the new consoles. But at the same time, I know that I'd be pushing it to get a $40-50 game for my santee. Still, that's my goal, and I'll be damned if I miss out on it. Unfortunately, it seems my gifted one is pretty diverse in their posting habits.. it may take me a few weeks to figure out what to get 'em.
Hmmm. My Santee looks to be simutaniously difficult and easy to shop for, if that makes sense. I will begin scouring for information that would lead me to make this easier. Your Santa isn't your Santee, right?
A bit about my stuff and interests to make things easier for my Santa, although should he want to ignore the list and get me completely random but neat, entertaining stuff, that won't be unwelcome. I own a DS with a shitton of games, a PS2, a Gamecube, a dusty unused Xbox and equally dusty and unused PSP, and soon to be a Wii. This may come as a surprise to some of you, but I am a big fan of H. P. Lovecraft. I don't own a lot of Cthulhu merchandise aside from some of those neat plush Cthulhus, though. I like Transformers and toys in general. My computer desk is filled with some Transformer Alternators, 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime, some Warcraft figures, Final Fantasy X's Bahamut and Yojimbo, Monev the Gale, a chocobo, a stuffed Vivi, three Final Fantasy X-2 lego-knockoffs, an Edgeworth pin...
Man I have a lot of stuff up there, and that's not half of it.
I offer the above list as a sort of general idea on my interests. You may go where you like from there, Santa. But if you are stuck and angsting about what to get me (trying to buy a great gift for someone sometimes stresses me out), I like toys and I like Kefka.
So guys..how would one go about finding if his Santee already has a certain dvd season? It sounds like a perfect gift for him, but then again, it also sounds like something he would already have.

Use an intermediary to ask him.
On another note, I'm trying to make a post saying Dear Santa: likes + dislikes.....but I'm having touble doing it and not sounding like an ass.

Pretty much worked out what to get my santee, they pretty much said its what they wanted though it seems pretty hard to find but i shall persevere.
I guess i better give some tips for my santa incase they care...
I have an xbox, 360, gamecube, DSL and a Wii on preorder. I also own a PSP but only because im too lazy to sell it.
I like gaming (obviously), gadgets, music (indie, rock, britpop), sports (football (soccer)) and reading the occasional book (last 2 books i read were "The book of general ignorance" and "What we believe but cannot prove").
My room at uni is also pretty depressing, so wouldnt mind something to brighten it up like video game art or something though that could be pushing it...
Though im not too fussy about what i get, so dont worry if its not it any of the above categories.
Rather than post what I do have, I'm gonna post what I wish I had.
Boondock Saints, Marvel Civil War comic books, Anything signed by Stephen King (I wish)..alright damnit this is harder than I thought.
I won't complain at anything though. If you send me a jar of pubic hair I'll be flat out amused. And a tad disgusted.
But considering the logistical problems of shipping said equine, I'd really be happy with almost anything. I think one of the coolest parts about Secret Santas are getting what someone else thinks you'll like, because you get introduced to new stuff. But if you need some ideas, I'll tell you a little bit about what I own and what I like:
I have a Gamecube, a DS, and a PC. I'm mainly a PC gamer, but I adore my DS. I own a slew of PC games, but I want more (such as F.E.A.R. or NWN2). I already have WoW, and something like a preorder for the expansion would only be enabling my addiction. For the DS, I've got NSMB, Mario Kart, and Kirby's CC. Besides games, I really love music - I've played piano for twelve years and I'm always looking for new sheet music, and I just recently started playing guitar. I don't have an mp3 player, but not because I don't want one. And books are amazing. Glancing over at my shelf I see: Godel, Escher, Bach; ANSI Common Lisp; Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Quicksilver. DVD's and Nerf items would also be graciously accepted.
But like I said, please get me WHATEVER you want. And don't make it expensive if you don't have much money. I've never been big on asking for presents and I'm much more interested in the surprise of the whole thing.
Aside: what's the etiquette on notes in the packages? If we order from Amazon is there a way to leave a comment on one of the forms in the box? And do we reveal our identity in the note, or not?

You can leave notes on packages shipped from Amazon for free.
This is so exciting. I read through the posts of people saying "zomg my santee is going to love this!" and I think, Jesu! that might be me!
You hear that Santa? My hopes are getting high! You better not disappoint or you will rue the day you were born! Rue it, I say! Rue it hard!
I keed. But really, this is exciting. Speaking of which, what do you guys think of sending someone an MMORPG? Some of his posts mentioned loving online games, but I'm not sure how he'd feel about it considering he'd have to pay a monthly fee. The game is also about a year old, but it seems fairly popular still and it fits my budget and I think it fits him perfectly.
I went out and faced the madness of the mall today and bought a gift for my santee. I'm confident he will like it a lot. Now I'm debating if I should sent it now or wait a little while.

What do you say?
Maybe you could include a prepaid card or something if the game doesn't award free months outright?
I agree with others though, I'm really looking forward to receiving something from my Santa that they think I will like.
I s'pose I should prolly post up a note for my Santa, so here goes:
I'm relatively gainfully employed, and barring my addiction to freshly boiled hobo, I have very few vices, so I have a tendency to buy damn near everything I want (and given the releases of Guitar Hero 2, FFXII, Gears of War, Elite Beat Agents AND Viva Pinata in the last week or two, my wallet has been whimpering lately).
I have each system, and intend to snap up the Wii come release day. But again, I typically buy any game I'm remotely interested in, so I'm not sure that an actual game would be the answer, unless of course it's something relatively obscure that seems interesting -- I'm all about the weird and the eclectic.
I enjoy a good book, and my taste for the off-kilter applies there too: my favorite authors range Chuck Palahniuk to Neal Stephenson (his early stuff especially) to Umberto Eco. That being said, I have a metric ton of books that I have to catch up on, not that I'm against more or anything.
Goofy trinkets and toys are a-okay too. Much like everyone else around here, I'm a kid at heart, so it's all good.
Not sure how else to generalize so as to be helpful; just think "cool" or "weird" or even just "fun" and I'll likely be happy. I'm willing to trust your subjective judgement.
Though, you know, there's no such thing as TOO much hobo.

Heh, speaking as a guy who's a kid inside, i'd say that ANYONE would rather have it sooner rather than later.

It comes with a free one month trial. Well, here's what I'll do. I'll buy the game banking on the fact that he'll appreciate it and throw in a couple of other little cool things that I think someone would like. This way, if he hates the game (though it got mostly 8.0+ reviews), he can eBay it and keep the little goodies I'm sending.
Erm... I'm a bit nervous. Hope you like it santee.
Man, even though I was half joking at some points, my last post makes me sound like a huge demanding ass. Forget about it, I'll be happy with whatever you give me. Just try to spend more on the actual gift than the shipping costs. Last year I didn't receive much and I didn't mind, so don't worry if you're not able to buy a fancy gift. As a college student, I totally understand being broke. Also, I participated this event mainly to give, not to receive.
So guys..how would one go about finding if his Santee already has a certain dvd season? It sounds like a perfect gift for him, but then again, it also sounds like something he would already have.

For X-Mas this year I'd like the most unholy thing you can find.
I'm vegan and I have no sense of humor about it. I have a 360, a PS2, and a DS, but will sadly not be getting a Wii anytime soon. I still play a lot of PC games - my favorite series of all time is Thief - but my 360 is taking up most of my attention lately. Gears of War for the win.
Who ever you are, Santa, I know that a little bit of work and searching on your part will result in everything you need to know. Good luck!

I am jealous of that monocle...
Even fruitcake is acceptable!
But seriously I will send awesome stuff anyway.

I've posted here with a hint and post in the wii thread a whole lot. Just because I don't post every 5 minutes doesn't make me any less of a forumer.
