The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
"I don't know what to say... because my mind is just blown," said Musk, during a brief address to his staff after the successful launch. "This is just the first step of many."
Musk seemed almost overcome with emotion. In the coming years, his company will try to make space transportation ten times cheaper and more reliable.
NASA has been launching things into space for 5 decades and shit still blows up. No way in holy hell would I trust a private company to be any better at it.

I mean, how could the private market do anything better than a state-controlled organization without competitors?

No competitors?
Did you just miss the cold war or something? It was pretty big.
There are few companies that have a name as evil sounding as "Virgin Galactic". You can just imagine them having a slogan like "Connecting people to the future!" then launching their evil hive mind AI construct.
"Thanks to M.A.R.Y. your in good hands!"

You better not take that attitude to the D&D forum, pal. That "free market" shit don't fly around here.
But yeah, I have to admit, the first thing I thought was "wow, this will be awesome until the first inevitable tragedy, then the whole thing will be taken over (aka 'regulated') by the government because eeeeevil profits blinded the owners of the company to glaring safety errors."

You're.
And I personally welcome our enslavement into the collective consciousness.

Heck, forget the cold war. Russia's still simmering on it's space program, but whilst that's happening China's been leapfrogging into the field, Japan and India are making their own advances too, you've got the European Space Agency providing plenty of awesome stuff in Europe. I mean, we've passed the epic phase we had during the 60's sure, but there's still an incredible amount happening right now, and definitely no shortage of competition.
Meh. To me this is like the ultimate extreme Hummer. Waste of resources.
Unless the commercial flights help fund their improvements, then it doesn't seem as much of a waste. And "competition" alone with nasa should spur improvements.
It's been so long since I've posted here, I've removed my signature since most of what I had here were broken links. Shows over, you can carry on to the next post.

I suppose this falls in the domain of "and Technology".
Technology I guess. Sure, there's a subforum but nobody goes there.

Did you miss the last ... almost 20 years?
