So this is the second time I received this email,

We are contacting you because we have been unable to charge your credit card for your Xbox Live Monthly Gold Membership service(s) being billed to you through Microsoft Online Services. The following credit card is the current payment method on your billing account:

Credit card type: VISA

To avoid an interruption of your services or to reactivate suspended service(s), please provide a valid credit card and a current expiration date. If payment is due for other Microsoft services purchased with the above card, those services may also be affected.

To update your credit card information:
1. Select your gamer card.
2. Select Account Management.
3. Select Memberships.
4. Select the membership you want to update.
For more info, go to www.xbox.com/support or call Xbox Customer Support at 1 (800) 4MY-XBOX.
If you have already resolved this issue, please disregard this notice and accept our thanks.

Thank you for using Microsoft Online Services.

The Xbox Live team.

The question I have is, does this mean that I owe them for a month's worth of xbox live service? Or, because it can't charge, will it automatically go back to silver?

Did you get a new card recently? As in, was the card you had registered for LIVE have an expiration date that just passed?

If so, just go change your credit card details via Xbox.com and you should be fine.

my experience if they cant charge you they cut off the service, just like mmo's. So you dont owe them money your just knocked down to silver.

Ok good, because I don't necessarily want to update the info. The thing is, besides today, I still had Xbox live gold, hopefully it does just get knocked down to silver when the month is over. As for the card, I am not positive as it was my dad's, but I have my own card now, but I don't want the service to have it. So now can I essentially just use prepaid cards because it can't charge me on the old card?

Is there a way to make sure I don't owe them anything? I had auto renewal on, and I heard that some people had trouble with cards that expired still being charged, but I think this may be different.

Sorry if this post is a bit messy I'm thinking while typing.

I would give them a phone call to make sure they don't send it to collections.
