Problems my 89 ford thunderbird had before last week:
Both Door Panels are broken. The driver's side still has a handle but I have to be careful closing the door. Passenger side is completely messed up.
The gas gauge is broken. I use the trip counter to determine when I need to refill
Sometimes when idling then i start going the engine will die. This can be worked around by putting one foot on the brake and giving it a little gas before i release then releasing the brake sometimes causing my tires to make noise when i take off.
It only has one working windshield wiper
The hood does not stay up on its own. I have a very advanced mechanism for keeping it up.
There are a bunch of other things I could list but I can sum it up with "the interior is terrible"
Why do I drive this thing and not fix these problems you ask? I spent 500 dollars to purchase this car two years ago and cannot bring myself to put more money into it.
Well it looks like my investment has finally exausted itself.
Last week while driving back to my office from lunch the car started dying like it was running out of gas. The trip counter was only about half way to the mark where I reset it so I wasn't expecting gas to be a problem.
I pull into a gas station thinking maybe somebody syphoned the tank or something but the car only took about 23 bucks out of the 50 I tried ot put in. The gas station (luckily) was one of those with a mechanic on duty and he checked it out for me.
He said something about a fuel pump or injector and I should get it checked out this weekend. The car was fine afterwards and my dad the mechanic looked at it saturday. I say mechanic but he really hasn't done mechanic work in about 10 years other than just little things of his own stuff.
He actually owns an auto body shop that does no mechanic work. He said it looks ok and I should think about replacing the fuel pump sometime soon. Checked all my fluids and whatnot and they were fine.
No big deal thats not anything I will have a problem with, fuel pumps are like 40 bucks anyway.
Monday: I'm driving home and my heat shoots all the way up and my oil pressure all the way down. Car almost dies while driving it then sputters a bit and everything looks fine except the heat gauge now is sitting at 3/4ths the way from the top instead of 1/4th the way up where it normally sits. After I get home I let it cool for an hour then go check it out.
The radiator is bone dry. I fill it with a water/coolant mixture as I've always done and it took close to a gallon and a half. I notice moisture flying up from the engine while its running. Not alot but enough to notice. I drive the car to work and back and there are no problems. I go to bed thinking maybe i got some water on the fan ( I dumped the second half on the radiator just out of habit of having a badly overheating car)
This morning I pop the hood start the car. Moisture flying up again, now I know theres a problem. I check the radiator. Its not bone dry but its really low.
I refill it and go to work.
I've got two choices.
I can try and buy a car now with no down payment and get a loan for the full amount. I've checked with a couple places and this actually is an option.
or
I can use my dads loaner truck for the next couple days while he tries to get the car working and spend the next few months saving and then buy a car in January.
Option A will be expensive, Less risk, will help build my credit score up some (it needs it)
Option B will be cheaper, more risk, and knowing me I'll probably buy something for a couple thousand outright rather than put that as a downpayment.
Option C buttsex
What does SE++ think (fuck TWW)

i mean, worst case scenario, you're back to where you are right now
srsly
But I live in a place where the sun is close enough to actually kill you.
Personally, I'd keep the junker running if it don't cost too much. The hassle of keeping it running could be much less than bothering about a loan, which I avoid mostly because of the annoyance factor.
So yeah, Buttsecks.
hmm I guess it's tuesday
where do you live? becase I live in Florida. so, the chances are: suck it.
I live in Tucson Arizona.
that's the only thing I've ever seen when I searched for Lensman.

Try adding detroit and hardcore to the search criteria. You should find the infamous picture.
If I get a car loan then the bank that gave me that loan crumples upon itself and dies due to this whole economic crisis thing.. Do I need to worry about my car going away? Or is it like "oh hey free car" ?
if nothing else, your loan, as an asset of the bank, will get bought up by either a larger bank when they consolidate their assets or by the government
Always.
But yeah, I had to spend some monies on my 93 Volvo wagon because of a road trip.

my crapbox t-bird is a 96 and it has 89k miles on it. it has a few problems, nothing serious though. some warning lights that lie about my coolant levels, speedometer sticks at 0 sometimes, tires are getting bald, passenger door lock does not work, key remote will not lock but all other functions work... check engine light is on, i think for the 100k mile tune-up. and for some strange reason the overdrive off light flashes whenever i get up to freeway speeds. i've gotta get this checked out, i guess. who knows what it could be.
What? $200 repairs vs $400/month for 5 years. hmmmmmmmm
gogo option b
When I first read that Rank I thought you had written "just all bacon."
better off donating it to a charity. who gives a fuck what the fire department wants with it. help the sick kids instead!
That's all I got.
too bad he's never had one before and oh god it's so expensive
holy crap what the fuck why would you do that to me
I don't think I've had 43 K total in my life
if you can bum rides from people, take buses, and use a bike, you would be a rich man.
but if you get one, get a stick shift. they are the most fun and coolest. harder to get used to but, it don't take long, and you will be good at it forever afterward. my next car will probably be a new t-bird or jeep with a stick.
