Couple of curiousities I wanted to ask about this series.

    1) How accurate is this for everyday life of a modern Japanese HS kid?
    2) How much have they changed things between the Japanese and American versions? I have noticed a few places that seem like they left something out, or faded to black early.
    3) Whats the deal with the running kid? On days that you are going to school and they show a scene of you walking and either talking to a friend or listening to others, it always irises closed as someone runs by. Is that an in joke or just a coincidence?

thanks for any anwsers you have :)

    1) Far as I know, school is life, and everything else comes second. If you don't score good grades on entrance exams and make it into a good college, nothing else matters. Attending college is more expected than optional in Japan, I think.

    2) Atlus always says they don't change anything. I guess that's just how they like closing scenes, i.e. 'you took so-and-so home'(I'm still not too fond of the game skipping events like that).

    3) Just someone who's always in a hurry, like in P3.

Thanks for the info. As for #2, I just wondered if there might have been things they had to edit out for ratings reasons. Once scene comes to mind.
All the gals are in the hot springs. And talking after they have pummeled the guys with buckets. As it ends, Chei makes a motion with no voice or dialogue and then all the girls laugh (this DOES have sound). I wondered if Chei made a comment that wouldn't be appropriate in the states but is less frowned upon in Japan.

I remember an atlus poster on neogaf mentioning at least one scene they had to censor.

    First school trip spoilers.
When Kanji busts in the boys tent and tries to stay there all night Youske makes some dumb comment about them losing their virginity to Kanji or something instead of "are we going to be safe" or whatever he says in the US version.

Just a little thing, but I can kinda see why they'd tone it down.

I actually felt bad when I turned down Yukiko since it's so incredibly clear she hasa crush on you and when you put her in the Friend Zone she's all "Oh...yeah...of course we're just friends! Hahaha...ha."

So I made up for that by going with Rise, Chie, and Naoto.

You, sir, are a true gentlemen.

I'm not very far in - on my third trip I was able to make it up to the 8th floor of the first dungeon (hard mode). But I'm wondering if there's any way to hop back to the entrance without backtracking all the way through the dungeon?

It lets me jump in to floor 5, but have I missed the way to jump back, or do I have to use that consumable? Right now I'm always turning back when my SP hits 1/3 or 1/4, 'cause I'll need that much just to make it out alive.

Okay that did take some getting used to, and occasionally it does still bother the fuck out of me.

But I think he's a fun, amusing character with an interesting arc, and I like having a character that can heal, buff, and dish out damage. He's got a level of versatility no one else in the game comes close to beyond the main character.

Plus using parties consisting entirely of characters I love despite how bad of an idea it is is more or less how I roll. It's why I brought Cait Sith against Sephiroth and why I did this game's equivalent with Naoto.

    Another one I don't like! :P
Though, to be fair, the VERY FEW times she did anything other than exposit, she wasn't too bad, and apparently her S.Link is okay too

To be fair to the character we were discussing (BECAUSE WE'RE TOTALLY SUBTLE, no one knows who we're talking about ), he wasn't AS BAD as I was expecting. He's still my least favorite character, but I was expecting to hate him with fiery passion, while in reality I just dislike him.

I really wanted to take the time to max out Naoto's social link. Unfortunately by the time I had enough courage and knowledge to actually begin his social link, I was already in December... :|

It's a shame because he's definitely one of my favorite characters and the one that I wanted to actually max out.

I've got him up to rank 3 or 4, but there's no way I can balance maxing out his s. link in the week's worth of game time I have left...

The only one that's 'important' to max early if you're trying to max as many as possible is Hermit. Once you finish it, you can use the shrine like you used the FES shrine in order to boost whatever S.Link you want any day of the week. You can still max them without ever doing that without too much trouble, but just make sure to get the party's done first, for more reasons than the obvious ones.
