if this sequel has a short single player campaign as the first one, then I will pass on it. It just not worth $60 for a few hour of it, and is over just as your getting into it. I could care less about on line.

ok
You know I've always wondered when people say something like they're trying to get you to change their opinion around something, do they really want you to respond. It's all like "What am I? The game's PR manager?"

Yeah, I'm not going to sit here and sell the game. Theres plenty of press on it, in video and text. Not to mention the OP.
oc: You can look at that crap if you want more info, then come on back for discussion! :winky:
edit: So that new hammerburst, has the ability to explode heads been confirmed with it or not yet?
Preorders, gamestop has a theme. That's all I saw so far. Lame as hell.
I never understood why certain weapons couldn't headshot. I mean, they did do extra damage when you shot their head, right? so why NOT allow them to headshot?
I have seen a fuck load of hype about this game, and can only judge what I have played in the first game. Which is a nice game, but way too short and like I said not worth the money if you do not like the on line shootem'ups.
as this review shows.. too short ..too much emphasis on multilayer http://gametab.com/news/2757343/
"We recently had a chance to play through Gears of War 2's entire single-player campaign (yes, you read that correctly) at an event in San Francisco, and it we found it to be an intense, enjoyable experience that improved upon the first game in a number of ways. Before we get into the oh-so-gory details, we should preface things by noting that GoW2 feels a lot like the first game, so much so that there will inevitably be complaints that it could be called Gears of War 1.5. To those people, we say: quit your whining! Complaining about another 12 to 15 hours of hot Gears action is like complaining about having too much money in your wallet or that your suitors are bringing you too many bouquets of flowers."
12 to 15 hours? thats like paying 4$ / hour for this game($60 purchase) if it takes you 15 hours to complete.. umm.. no thanks.
frankly for something that gets at most one play through with most people, that is just not for me. but it may be fine for you, and thats fine by me.

12 to 15 hours is plenty of campaign time for pretty much any kind of shooter I've ever played. 12 hours of concentrated fun is a helluva better deal than padding the game out to 20-30 hours with useless crap. Disregarding the value added by multiplayer is basically like chopping off possibly hundreds of hours of unique, fun gameplay.
Yeah, if you judge the game solely by single player, then it's only $4 an hour (still worth my time with online co-op thrown in). I was regretting my purchase of Mercs 2... until my brother got it and we could play co-op; then it became a steal for as much fun as we have. So on top of the single player, you have online campaign co-op, Horde mode, and what looks like to be an actually decent multiplayer mode this time around.
As for not all weapons not being headshot-killers, it's fairly obvious that it's an issue of balance. The sniper rifle needs to be able to kill with a headshot because of its extremely low rate of fire. If the Lancer could kill with a headshot, people would last about 5 seconds into the game before getting sprayed in the face with Lancer fire. Yeah, it's not realistic that getting shot in the face with anything isn't an insta-kill, but are you really going to judge a game which prominently features a chainsaw bayonet by standards of realism? CoD 4 can at least pretend to be somewhat realistic. Gears of War 2 raped reality's mom and then ate his dad for breakfast.
Lancer with a headshot would make the game way too easy, even if it was by chance. All you have to do is dance the reticule around the head and let the rate of fire do the rest.
12-15 hours of campaign is more than enough. GoW1 is one of my most played online co ops. It's a blast with friends, and on insane mode the challenge is so fun. SO FUN
So in addition to what this guy considers "short" for a shooter;
You have co op.
You have Horde hunts
You have countless MP modes
I don't know, this seems like an easily spent 60 dollars with 0 regrets to me.
But man, another 15 hours of co-op campaign will be bloody awesome!

Why does every game have to be 30+ hours now? I'm pretty sure (Not counting RPG's) I could beat all of the "greatest games" in the SNES timeline in well under 10 hours.
I don't have time for every single game to take 60+ hours. I thought the length of the first gears was perfect. Long enough to love but not so long that it became a chore.
I could only hope that it takes 12-15 hours to beat GoW 2, considering I beat the first one in like 8 hours. :P
Truth be told I think most of the fun from GoW campaign was playing Co-op with my brother. Really...the fact that we were able to beat it in one day was a plus since we usually don't have all that much time to get together.
Hmmm.. I might need to speed up my aquitision of an HD TV...
You probably hear it all the time, but an SDTV just can't do half these games justice.
I can't imagine this one on anything less than HD (even if it my tiny 19 incher) and 5.1 sound.
edit: THESE BOTS ARE BRUTAL
Horde mode is going to be so amazing!
I was totally ambivalent towards GoW 2 after GoW really let me down. But, after that art trailer I'm completely sold and I definitely want it more than ever now!

So true to throw in my two cents I had a 45" Projection SDTV for the first Gears, it took a dump on me. I bought a 32" Sony Bravia and even with component cables (my 360 is old no HDMI) it was like night and day I couldn't believe the shit I was seeing. The mission in the rain at the old factory, you can see water running off of everything!! In Gears 2 I'm sure you can see the hair on a Brumaks ass o_O
So I guess they now have variable weather on them. I know there are a lot of environment things in the new maps but changing up the remakes is a nice touch.
Is this not the best looking game you have ever seen? I'd put these images right up there with the likes of MGS4 and Killzone 2. So crisp. So detailed. So sumptuous.

It's the 'value for money' argument! Pull up a chair and bring some popcorn.
In my venn diagram its overlaps into SP vs MP too.
Nobody wins

No! It's the internet! I win because I call dibs! So there. Dibs is best.

Edit: Bring new pants. Because holy jesus.
I'm pleased with the marketing for Gears 2 to be honest. New information constantly for over a month now.
It actually looks like full motion bullshots. Even when you know its running. Amazing.

I fear something awesome has happened.
Holy shit.
I have nothing to add other than, wow looking great.

Awww and that vid dump got taken down. Professor X started a thread on xbox forums about being banned until the 7th. Good stuff.
