I don't mind the facial expressions. They look dated, but not enough to make me notice or anything.

What does cheese me off is the dubbing. It doesn't quite hit Hong Kong kung fu levels, but it gets pretty close at times.

Oh man, I had forgotten all about this game. I was excited about it like a year and a half ago. Sad to see it's only on the 360, because this is the kind of game I'd want to play on PC. And the kind of game I'd typically buy the collector's edition of, I love me some commentary.

Question about the special features of the limited edition. Do any of them need to be downloaded? My 360 is offline only.

Well, it also includes a code to download the DLC episodes, so you'd need online for that when they come out.

Well, in that case... anyone know of a decent way to connect a 360 when your main source of internet connection is tethering from a cellphone*?

Yeah, I'm probably screwed. But I love Sam Lake too much not to get this game anyway.

technically, all copies of the game are supposed to have the code now, as I understand it.

Also: you don't have any options for broadband in your area? I imagine the DLC will be 1+GB in size, so even if there was a tethering option, you'd kinda be screwing yourself over on your data plan's bandwidth limits I would think. Not to mention the speed would likely be abominable.

Just beat Episode 3. Damn, that was LONG, but fantastic all the way through.

Does anybody else listen to or know about Coast to Coast AM with George Noory? I'm fairly certain the through-the-night radio show the game is inspired by Noory's nationally syndicated radio show, which deals mostly with paranormal discussion.

Also, "You hear me, HP Lovecraft?!" Great line!

I really hope the popularity of this thread (or lack thereof) is not an indication of how well Alan Wake is selling. In my humble opinion, it is one of the best games of the past few years. I have completely fallen for this game, and I really want it to do well so that Remedy may improve upon the ideas and make some sort of spiritual successor in the future.

Well, I just marathoned through the entire game. Didn't really intend to, and I did stop between chapters, but once you get in, it's hard to stop. Pretty dang short, and no I did not rush through at top speed, I took my time and looked around and watched all the tv's and radios I could. It's not really a complaint, but it was over sooner than I thought.

Ending spoilers (well not really, but better safe than sorry):
The ending... uh, wow. I don't know, I think I'll wait and see what the popular opinion is. Because maybe I'm just getting dumber in my old age, but it didn't make sense at all. It's not infuriatingly bad like say Assassin's Creed or Halo 2, but it just did not click for me. I just thought it was pretty bad and stupid.

Overall though, it was a fantastic game. I'd say the one biggest flaw though is the suspense and tone. They really blew their load on it within the first 2 to 3 chapters, because after that all the suspense was virtually gone and the game played like an average run n' gun Resident Evil clone. It didn't make the game any less enjoyable, but they basically throw a massive amount of ammo and batteries at you that there's nothing to fear anymore. But either way, the entire setting, the cinematic feel, all that jazz was A++.

My ultimate opinion? I'm glad I didn't spend 70 bucks on it. I'm glad I rented it. But I'm also glad I experienced it. I think it should be on the list of required games that everybody should play.

Online retailers are getting really competitive right now. RDR is already $10 off and came with a $20 giftcard. Mario Galaxy comes with a $20 giftcard as well as many others. You can't judge sales based on prices right now. If the game gets marked half off, that would be another matter.

At least the marketing campaign was well done. The Bright Falls serials (I hate the term webisodes) were what finally sealed the deal for me.

Even if Alan Wake ultimately sells fewer copies than expected, no one can say it was Dead Space'd.

    I interpreted it as such
Alice survives because Alan writes her out of the story. In the end all that happens is a changing of the guard. Alan was unable to destroy the dark presence completely but was able to reboot the story. Alan took Zane's place as the light against the darkness. The Waitress Sara is the new Torchbearer who will prepare for the next time the dark presence stirs awake. And Nightingale is the new Dark Presence. Alan saved Alice in the only way he could think of by that point of the story. He was trapped by the rules he already made and this is the only ending that would bring about a way for Alice to survive. Life goes on in Bright Falls until something starts the cycle anew again.

That is probably going to be pure DLC where we see the story through someone elses eyes. Most likely Wake as a shadow. Either that or Zane thought Wake would fail and he would join the so many others who fell to the dark presence before him. Either that or that Dark Springs episode really is being taken litterly. "Ladies. I don't know where I was going with this. Please just go back upstairs for now while I figure this out. I wanted it to be something but right now its the absence of reality and if you keep observing it. It might become a plot hole" Remedy has shown in the Payne series that they are not above using a TV show to explain something extremely odd
