Oh man, I had forgotten all about this game. I was excited about it like a year and a half ago. Sad to see it's only on the 360, because this is the kind of game I'd want to play on PC. And the kind of game I'd typically buy the collector's edition of, I love me some commentary.
Question about the special features of the limited edition. Do any of them need to be downloaded? My 360 is offline only.

They're all on the bonus disc, packed in the case with the sound track, I think.

Well, it also includes a code to download the DLC episodes, so you'd need online for that when they come out.

Well, in that case... anyone know of a decent way to connect a 360 when your main source of internet connection is tethering from a cellphone*?
Yeah, I'm probably screwed. But I love Sam Lake too much not to get this game anyway.
*PM me if you do, so I don't derail this thread too much.

technically, all copies of the game are supposed to have the code now, as I understand it.
Also: you don't have any options for broadband in your area? I imagine the DLC will be 1+GB in size, so even if there was a tethering option, you'd kinda be screwing yourself over on your data plan's bandwidth limits I would think. Not to mention the speed would likely be abominable.
It means you can only find them on nightmare mode (EG the hardest difficulty that you unlock after beating it).
Edit: And nightmare is quite the step up in difficulty from Normal.
how do they change things for the increased difficulty?
Things do a fuckload more damage and they take a lot more to kill (You will eat batteries like mad on nightmare). I started on hard and I'm noticing quite a difference in lethality on Nightmare.
Dear Remedy: For the OCD of us out there, why must you sometimes put pages out of order? I don't know if I'm missing any or if you're just being random again.

Pages that are out of the way are typically near the bottom of the list, those that you can encounter "easily" like in the middle of where you are going are normally near the top.

I was half expecting him to say 'pills would ease the pain'. By that point, my girlfriend was beyond tired of me pointing out every similarity and reference to Max Payne, but damnit, that stuff is right up my street.
How deep does the one set of tunnel go, the one with the "Tunnels go to Cauldron Lake" sign painted near it when you shine the light? I went far enough to trigger a headache and a flash of seeing Alice
Just beat Episode 3. Damn, that was LONG, but fantastic all the way through.
Does anybody else listen to or know about Coast to Coast AM with George Noory? I'm fairly certain the through-the-night radio show the game is inspired by Noory's nationally syndicated radio show, which deals mostly with paranormal discussion.

Not much further than you went. There's a manuscript page at the bottom, then a dead end.

Can't get the achievement till Nightmare so no worries anyway.
I really hope the popularity of this thread (or lack thereof) is not an indication of how well Alan Wake is selling. In my humble opinion, it is one of the best games of the past few years. I have completely fallen for this game, and I really want it to do well so that Remedy may improve upon the ideas and make some sort of spiritual successor in the future.
Well, I just marathoned through the entire game. Didn't really intend to, and I did stop between chapters, but once you get in, it's hard to stop. Pretty dang short, and no I did not rush through at top speed, I took my time and looked around and watched all the tv's and radios I could. It's not really a complaint, but it was over sooner than I thought.
Ending spoilers (well not really, but better safe than sorry):
The ending... uh, wow. I don't know, I think I'll wait and see what the popular opinion is. Because maybe I'm just getting dumber in my old age, but it didn't make sense at all. It's not infuriatingly bad like say Assassin's Creed or Halo 2, but it just did not click for me. I just thought it was pretty bad and stupid.
Overall though, it was a fantastic game. I'd say the one biggest flaw though is the suspense and tone. They really blew their load on it within the first 2 to 3 chapters, because after that all the suspense was virtually gone and the game played like an average run n' gun Resident Evil clone. It didn't make the game any less enjoyable, but they basically throw a massive amount of ammo and batteries at you that there's nothing to fear anymore. But either way, the entire setting, the cinematic feel, all that jazz was A++.
My ultimate opinion? I'm glad I didn't spend 70 bucks on it. I'm glad I rented it. But I'm also glad I experienced it. I think it should be on the list of required games that everybody should play.

The fact that Walmart.com, Amazon, and Buy.com had it marked 15-25% off on release day doesn't give me a lot of confidence.

Online retailers are getting really competitive right now. RDR is already $10 off and came with a $20 giftcard. Mario Galaxy comes with a $20 giftcard as well as many others. You can't judge sales based on prices right now. If the game gets marked half off, that would be another matter.

At least the marketing campaign was well done. The Bright Falls serials (I hate the term webisodes) were what finally sealed the deal for me.
Even if Alan Wake ultimately sells fewer copies than expected, no one can say it was Dead Space'd.

There are two manuscript achievements, one for all the normal/hard ones and one for getting all the additional nightmare ones.
So I just beat it, pretty enjoyable game, great atmosphere and some good tension.
Ending spoilers
So...the ending is weird. I'm assuming Wake basically finished the manuscript so that Alice survives be he has to stay in the cabin as a trade or sacrifice or something.
That huge stage battle was fucking metal. Compleeetely out of left field, but in the best possible way. One of the best single video game battles, I'd say.
As far as the story, it seems like the answers are coming together pretty quickly. I'm hoping there's another twist before it ends, though.

It seems overly open ended for DLC or a sequel.
I interpreted it as such
Alice survives because Alan writes her out of the story. In the end all that happens is a changing of the guard. Alan was unable to destroy the dark presence completely but was able to reboot the story. Alan took Zane's place as the light against the darkness. The Waitress Sara is the new Torchbearer who will prepare for the next time the dark presence stirs awake. And Nightingale is the new Dark Presence. Alan saved Alice in the only way he could think of by that point of the story. He was trapped by the rules he already made and this is the only ending that would bring about a way for Alice to survive. Life goes on in Bright Falls until something starts the cycle anew again.

What the hell was that "Oh that's Mr Scratch, your friends will see him soon" or something thing that Zane was talking about.
That is probably going to be pure DLC where we see the story through someone elses eyes. Most likely Wake as a shadow. Either that or Zane thought Wake would fail and he would join the so many others who fell to the dark presence before him. Either that or that Dark Springs episode really is being taken litterly. "Ladies. I don't know where I was going with this. Please just go back upstairs for now while I figure this out. I wanted it to be something but right now its the absence of reality and if you keep observing it. It might become a plot hole" Remedy has shown in the Payne series that they are not above using a TV show to explain something extremely odd

What does cheese me off is the dubbing. It doesn't quite hit Hong Kong kung fu levels, but it gets pretty close at times.
