I hated that section with so much fury it made me retroactively dislike the game. That isn't an exaggeration either.
Where you going for the achievement too?
No. I was just trying to beat it once to finish the DLC
This game engine is NOT built for platforming.
I was frustrated with this bit, until i realized you are ONLY suppose to jump on the metal platform that spins around the tornado and not all the crazy shit that is there. If you stick to just the metal platforms, it's not frustrating at all.... I hope.
Just finished the vanilla game. Wow, I'm going to clap, and award it a solid 9/10.
Wish there was more daytime exposition though, I loved the authenticity of the town as much as anything else.
Clap-clap.
Love the final shot at the end of the game. Not creepy in the slightest!
You gotta reply the game on nightmare, find all the hidden places and coffee cups, with most games this is a pain in the ass, in Alan Wake, you discover wonderful hidden places of interest and expanded pieces of fiction, it's a game that keeps giving. Oh, and then there's that wonderful DLC to play.
It was only from replying the game and reading all the expanded stuff that the game went from a 9/10 to Game of 2010 for me.
Beat The Writer. I still hate the combat but enjoyed it more than The Signal.
The Writer Spoilers
So if Alan Wake 1 was "Departure" - which is a pun on him leaving reality and also throwing away his established series (his Max Payne-alike) - does that mean in Alan Wake 2 "Return" he will be writing himself to be more of a hard-boiled badass in order to fight back to reality?
Maybe just a little? I'd take better dodging even if it didn't come with better killing power.
I've just recently decided to go back and play through the game on Nightmare. I originally beat the game on Normal when it first came out. I still love it. Amazing game. And I'm not sure which poster/posters commented on Nightmare being the best setting to play the game on, but so far it absolutely is. I find it much more enjoyable going into combat looking for ways I can avoid shooting my gun.

I just beat the vanilla game as well. I like the game over all, nut I'm having a dificult time talking myself into the DLC.
I would definitely say the DLC is worth it. Both of them add to the game and have their own "flavour". The Signal DLC was more combat focused and The Writer more story focused, in my opinion anyway. I enjoyed both.

The DLCs, being (spoilers?)
set in the Dark Place
have got a cool, dreamlike feel that I really enjoyed.
Okay, I just got this game and played it for the first time yesterday. I have a probably intensely stupid question to ask:
Does this game auto-save at Checkpoints (as in, if I exit/turn off the system, when I continue later will it start at the last Checkpoint)? I ended up playing the entire first Episode because when I selected "Exit to Menu" it told me that Unsaved progress would be lost, and while I assumed it auto-saved, I didn't want to risk losing everything since the beginning of the Episode.

Yeah it should. I just play through an episode, start the new one then quit. On my next game session, I pick that new chapter and start from there. Mike D, thanks for the info.
Never been to that site before, but the numbers look good for Alan Wake.
The more interesting news came from Remedy themselves in response to the recent rumours. It appears as though we will be getting more Alan Wake, but it will not be Alan Wake 2 or DLC. I'm not sure what this means. Possible prequel? The suspense is going to kill me.
I'll be replying Alan Wake with the developer commentary on having picked up the LE recently, i also need need to read the book, ill post any little tidbits of info i find. Alan Wake, the game that keeps giving, almost 12 months later.
I guess the Kinect offshoot theory sounds like a reasonable one? Edge had a big interview with matias myllyrinne this month where he also stated that Remedy are working on a new game that will take what they've learned from their previous games and improving on it, while trying to confirm-without-confirming that it may or may not be Alan Wake-based.
My money is on it either being "Alice Wake", or a spin off about Bright Falls in general.
The quote about "bringing new people on board to finally get into it" is weird though. There's only been one game, and its cheap now. If people want to get on board, its not exactly like trying to pick up a show in Season 3 or 4.
that could also mean its going to be multiplatform...
Also the words "a slice of our team" makes me think its more along the Assassins creed line of games - Alan wake 2 will be a full game next year, this year we get a little something to tide us over.
Holy fuck what if its a game set in the 1960s with ZANE!!?!

Oh man, that platforming section made me rage-quit.
So it's worth sucking it up and pushing through for the rest of it?

The Signal is the DLC that comes with the game.
The Writer is the DLC that doesn't come with the game.
Both are each a new episode.

Yes, the game saves at checkpoints through the episode. It has a very good save system in my opinion.

The Alan Wake boards are usually an awesome source, as a lot of Remedy devs are very active, but I havent checked in awhile.
ANYTHING related to Alan wake is the greatest news.
