Yeah, I wouldn't think of dropping group as a tank...
It's already hard enough to get a heal from the puggies, and I don't think my healers would appreciate the lack of guard if I'm in a guildie.
I do feel bad for MDPS... I dunno, maybe less roots and snares thrown around would help? Half of the snares in the game right now don't break with my ability, it's pretty damn annoying.
I just don't think it works that way. Does anyone have any empirical evidence to the contrary?
I don't have empirical evidence, but it helped me. The theory is that the .myp archive layout wasn't optimized in the beta build, but on retail it is. The actual files are the same, the archive structure and compression efficiency may be different.
Thanks Saeris, I didn't come across that particular rumor but I'll take your word for it. Wanted something more than "beta thetans" haunting our installs.
I'll give it a shot.
Huh, I deleted my WAR_Beta folder thinking I'd give this a shot. Just found out my DVD RW drive doesn't want to read DVDs anymore. No WAR until I get and install a new DVD drive, unless I want to pop the thing out and play with the laser tonight.
Okay, so as usual we are always looking at player feedback and one of the themes that has been brought up here a lot is the issues of scenarios in WAR. Here's your chance to tell us if you would like to see a new server type that addresses some of the points raised here. So, if you would like to play on a server that has no scenarios, limited scenarios or only Tier 1 scenarios, vote now and tell all your friends/guildmates to come here and vote as well. This won't be the only place we are going to poll but it's a good start. We expect to hear a lot from our DAoC fans as well.
This is exactly why I put up the poll on scenario-free servers. Right now only 25% of people would like to play on a SF-free server. Now, I'm not ignoring that number but it does point out one fact, that a lot of people (right now, the clear majority) actually like playing on a WAR server that has scenarios. And please don't say, "They are only saying it because that's how they level fastest!" because this is simply a poll. People can easily stay in their server, level fast and still come here and say "Please give us a SF-free server!"
If you don't want scenarios in a WAR-server, all you need to do is vote for it. If the numbers are high enough here and when we do an in-game poll, we'll look at opening up a SF-free server after we enable character transfers. In the meantime, we'll keep encouraging people to engage in open RvR through changes to the reward systems.
On thing to keep in mind, as popular as DAoC was in its time, I know for a fact that one of the reasons our initial numbers weren't higher was because the majority of MMO players (let alone standalone game players) did not want anything to do with PvP even if it was RvR. That's one reason "pure" PvP MMORPGs will never have the highest subscriber base in the industry. While WoW did us a favor by bringing a lot more players into the mix and a lot more PvP-oriented players, a 100% open RvR game will not reach as wide of an audience as I think that WAR can. If there is enough demand for pure open RvR servers, we will be happy to open some servers and see what happens. Once again, it is up to the players to tell us what they want.
I asked this in the tank thread but didn't get a reply, so I bring it to the UI/Macro gurus here. Yah I am looking at you Saeris.
For my Ironbreaker I am looking to combine oathfriend and guard to one key. I want to be able to target someone, press the key and oathfriend, press again and guard. Ideally, if I switch to a new target, it would default to oathfriending....
Is this possible at all?
Can't do that. You can't use macros to use abilities in WAR. They have the ability use system locked down hard; absolutely no conditionals or combinations are allowed.
For everyone having stuttering issues, follow the advice on page 35? of this thread.
Delete your beta client.
Install retail.
Download Buffthrottle (I also go INFthrottle)
and Squared from curse (I'm a healer, but someone suggested this for other classes instead of the default warband UI)
I ran this game better than I ever have last night. And I was running at 1280 resolution as opposed to my normal 1040. I would sometimes get 4 second pauses, but the game ran so much smoother, I couldn't believe it.
Oh and if you ever see an AM run into a zerg of destruction and then stand there.... its probably me. I'll be back in about 5 seconds if I"m dead once my PC recovers. My buddy at work was like "Dude why do you keep running iin the zerg then just stand there" I bet everyone I've RvR'd with thinks I'm a bafoon.
this work for anyone else?
Why delete the beta client? The files will be exactly the same after you update the retail installation.
Because it costs nothing but a few keypresses to be 100% sure that nothing from beta is around to bork your game experience.
Did it, no difference. Running through Lagdorf is just that.
So, seriously, what is up with NOBODY but Blizzard... urgh... being able to make high elf starting area's interesting?
And its not like these guys arent capable.
Lets compare.
I hop out into the middle of an invasion, allright, cool. I start... by killing sprites and picking up a book. Wandering around a series of identical, sterile towers.
As opposed to waltzing out of a clockwork portal to hell, past a twitching tree of flesh, to storm through a graveyard for the true names of my enemy's ancestors.
I thought the Black Arcs were the coolest thing about the HE starting area, and I loved the white tower architecture.
I liked Blizzard's, too, though, but I think it's cooler to be swarmed by dark elves than ... like.. little magical worms and crap. But still, it was way more wide open and beautiful.
Regardless... when you make a character you're there for roughly 12 minutes, so... yeah.
Edited to glare menacingly at the elf racism. Even if it's true.

Eh, they kind of talk about this in the CE art book.
There exists a wealth of High Elf imagery from Games Workshop and I wanted to keep the same look and feel, but add slight flourishes that would make them appear even more elegant. Layers and bold colors were used to denote rank.
The High Elves are the most beautiful, graceful and idealized race in Warhammer. They are 'artistry and refinement' personified and manifested in the extreme. The High Elves are also an ancient race, one of the oldest in the known Warhammer world. These two themes go hand-in-hand when designing for this army, as the High Elves have had millennia to craft layer upon beautiful layer of detail in all of their artistic endeavors.
As with the other races in the game, we look to a single key visual element - in this case, that High Elves are tall and thin - to guide our overall design work. Thus, they live in tall towers and many tall, white obelisks can be found as a reoccurring architectural element. This focus on the vertical, and its repeated use in all elements of their design, gives the High Elves lands a unique gandeur. To add detail to the tall, white structures, we use a lot of flowing filigree, red gemstones and gold highlights to create a sence of opulence befitting the attitutudes of their architects.
That said, I agree that the High Elf areas are the least interesting of the Order environments.
eh, my computer isnt quite up to snuff, so I cant really get the full majesty of far off objects. And to think, 3.2 gig processor, a geforce 7600, and a 1.5g of ram was once impressive....
Man, I'm so frustrated with destruction on our server right now. (I'm order)
Scenarios are fine, sure. But as soon as I try to organize a warband to take some objectives, we get curbstomped by 100+ destruction players.
So then we decide to all fly off to some obscure objective somewhere, and guess what? Out waltzes about 25 more destruction players. Don't they have anything better to do? This is very annoying. Order can't hold jack shit for world RvR objectives, and if that's the focus of end-game, then fuck that, I won't be playing that shit.
god it's so stupidly difficult trying to decide on a class in this game
of course it doesn't help that T1 on averheim is completely horrible so I can't get an early feel for anything in PvP. Out of roughly 30 scenarios I ran in the last couple of days I've only won 4.
This is a sign that you should switch servers and have some fun on a populated one. I tried the low pop gig, it was like pulling teeth with a hammer.
Yeah, as mentioned Averheim is not super low pop. And, even if it was, I don't think a higher pop server would necessarily solve my problems. The makeup of Order teams (at least, at low levels) just seems to be horrendous.
I don't know, I might see about defecting to Destruction and joining the Mouths or something. I just can't seem to be satisfied with any of the Order classes, and I haven't won a single scenario today.

Are you not in Candymancers? Are you just doing scenarios solo? If so, that's your problem right there. If not...uhm..I don't know what to say. Group more?
Whenever I'm grouped for scenarios we win more often than not.

Well, they're probably either having to wait a long for Scenarios (very likely) and are bored for that reason.
Or they're tired of doing the same scenario over and over and over (it doesn't help that people only tend to do one scenario, which gets exceedingly) and are looking for some action.
Being tired of doing Mourkain on my Bright Wizard, and having waited over 30 min. for a scenario on my Shaman, I understand either one.
How sensitive this game is to population balance and number is its' greatest weaknesses.

While I agree that everything chaos is cool, I would definitely not call the HE areas uninteresting. I remember my first spawning there, turning around and seeing a huge fucking thing, the black arc, staring me in the face. My first screen shot.
In fact, I would say that the High Elf spawn is one of the better for making you feel like your in a war. I mean, their camps are small collective groups of people in the starting area, and you begin surrounded by doods with your back to a cliff. Maybe it was just because it was the first starting area for me, but I found it truely awesome to be running around shooting up my forsaken kin. And I still do.

You get more renown (20%), more influence, have to pay less at merchants and you sell for more when you control a tier.
Also everyone of your faction gets a "victory cry" buff that lasts for 30 minuts I think and increases your damage, wounds and experience gained by 5% .

I havn't tried lagdorf yet, i just ignore that place. But running around zones, scenariois, and the little RvR I've done has greatly increased performance for me.
Buff Magus, nerf BW and Sorcs. Give us AoE dots with damage comparable to BW dots, post 20 our travel disk is our perma disk, cast on the move, no fall damage, float over water, medium robes, un-fuck Daemon Armour so its 1h duration not 20 hits, god mode, ability to summon Fire Wyrms at rank 10-
I do miss the old concept of Magus disc giving them improved maneuverability on the battlefield. That sounded great, all swooshing about and hovering and whatnot. I mean, shit, it would help make up for the fact that we are easily the most noticeable class on the battlefield.
And then, oh shit we need to launch fuuuuuuck just copy and paste the Engineer and call him a Magus.
