Anybody else watching? I adored the original show, but I was also 4 years old.
This new one has some good stuff going for it, but it's also got some terrible fucking writing. I'm not sure how much longer nostalgia will keep me watching.

Nostalgia got be about 75% of the way through the two-hour pilot/TV movie.
The show's been a lot better than the pilot. The pacing is better suited to a 45 minute episode. But they've also thrown in a "mysterious past™" for the main character that really feels superfluous.
More KIT kicking ass, less "I've lost two years of my life!" please.
Was the car's voice always that... dull? I don't remember it being that boring sounding.
No, Val Kilmer's always been that dull sounding.
They should have just gotten William Daniels to do it again. He was awesome.
It was supposed to be Will Arnett, but he had a previous contract with GM/Pontiac, and they didn't want him doing the voice of a Ford Mustang, a competitor.

So get someone who sounds similar at least. Geeze KITT isn't supposed to sound gruff and tough.

It's actually so bad it's wonderful. There are so many things wrong with it, I've decided to like it. Mike's a little too pretty for me, I prefer my ex-Rangers with dangerous pasts to be a little more rough around the edges, but his take on the character is getting better for me.
And Deanna Russo is my new favorite TV girl. I swoon.
I've got my nerd fingers crossed to see if they do bring the Hoff back in for a cameo or two. And god help them if Mr Finney doesnt provide the voice of his car.

"KITT, that trick you did where you jumped over Goliath was amazing."
"That wasn't my trick Michael. It's my illusion."
Well, assuming they'd want it to be a car currently in production, what would you recommend?
Since that means it can't be a Trans Am, it should be a Corvette. The Mustang is too boxy.

I finally watched about half of the pilot on th DVR last night and I'm not a fan. I tried, and wanted to love this show, but Kitt looks like something from 2 fast 2 furious in "attack mode", the acting is terrible beyond repair, the backstory for Michael sucks, and the car was set on fire, but couldn't be put out at 377 miles an hour because the "flames were feeding off the biometric car skin"? or some garbage.
I know action shows are supposed to be a little unbelievable and such, but this one is more than needed. Also, I don't like watching a 45 minute Ford commercial.
I give it three episodes before kitt changes into a Focus, and then I'm out.
edit: Yes, Val Kilmer is awesome, and I think he does a good job with the voice.
I guess the mustang is the logical choice and all, because the Trans Am is no more, but I think they could have done some more homework and tried some other cars first, especially if the thing has the ability to morph.

I don't remember the original series being a Pontiac commercial... or even showing a Pontiac or TransAm logo of any kind. Everything on KITT says GT500 or Ford on it. Might as well have Toby Keith doing the voice.
Anyway, I also balked at the choice of a Mustang, and I own two Mustangs. I'd even have said "ok, use the preproduction Camaro" before chosing a Mustang (or a Challenger). At least it's the same damn autogroup. I guess you could keep it as a Pontiac if you went with a GTO, but the damn things look like Cavaliers behind the A-pillar.

More car, less stupid talking/stupid physics.

Actually upgrade that to terribly bad.
It was on australian tv, and I made the mistake of watching it. The Hoff was good though.
The original is really not that relevant. The question is, do you like cheese? :P

No that was actually hilarious lol.

Actually, I've only seen him become three cars: the standard mustang, a truck, and his "attack mode". I'm hoping he's limited to just those three.
KITT should be totally awesome. Sadly I bet it's just because they couldn't afford a cool car.
