speaking of urinating

pardon the alt account, this is a little embarrassing, and a couple of my r/l friends read this board.

i'm a 21 year old male in generally good health. i run a few miles a week, eat (fairly) well, and generally take care of myself. i could probably stand to lose a few pounds, but no meaningful health issues otherwise. no history of (non-tobacco) cancer or prostate problems on either side of my family.

for the last three months or so, i've noticed that my urine flow "slows" as i piss. it starts off very strong, but as my bladder empties out, it just gradually fades to a trickle. a good way to describe it might be that it's like my bladder is using compressed air, so as it empties out, the pressure goes down. the timing of the change coincides with a period of a few months where i was in a wheelchair and couldn't stand up to piss. before that, no problems. i assumed it had something to do with that, and figured it'd gradually get better, but not yet so far.

aside from being incredibly embarrassing when i have to use a urinal, occasionally i'll "leak" a drop or two shortly after urinating. that only happens VERY VERY rarely (and only when when i'm in a hurry and try to "rush" to finish), but you can imagine why even the SLIGHT risk of that would make me uncomfortable about hitting a restroom while i'm out somewhere (especially when i'm wearing khakis). a bit of research on google came up with dozens of horrible possibilities ranging from cancer to a narrow urethra, but the symptoms don't match up -- i don't have a 'slow flow', it just sort of runs out of steam. if it's relevant, my ejaculate is still fine (in terms of volume and... range).

does anyone have any ideas about what may be up with my urinary system, and ideas on how i can fix it (either via dietary changes or some kind of exercise)?

Like, it slows to the point of dripping down your donger? Because the physics behind water pressure means flow is going to reduce as you empty your bladder. This is totally normal. I hope it's normal. Shit.

I'll of course preface this by saying that I'm not a doctor.

Does it hurt at all? That can be a rather large tell. To me it does sound like a narrowing of the urethra, but that could still be anything. A few months ago I had surgery to fix a stricture (tissue started growing across) in my urethra. It wasn't painful at first, but over the course of about 2 or so years after I noticed it it became painful when I went.

You're going to want to go see a urologist. There's just too many things it could be.

Yeah, this sounds pretty much exactly how I pee.

Well, yeah, there will be a little of that, but your bladder still has muscles around it to contract while your voiding.

I would imagine that there would be a substantial loss of flow for him to bring this up.

no pain or discomfort. the thing i should probably clarify, though, is that it's taking me a *minute or two* to finish partaking in the process. it's a bit more severe than just "tapering off" -- it definitely takes me several times longer to get the job done now than it did just a year or two ago.

leaking pee after pissing is completely normal. It happens

sounds like you're just freaking out over nothing, if it does start to worry you after a while, go to a clinic and ask them

It sounded pretty normal to me until you brought up the fact that it took a couple minutes.

Something kind of similar happened to me about a year, year and a half ago. It got a little harder to pee, it seemed... "thicker" is a good way to put it I guess. Then it tingled/hurt a bit. Then I started pissing blood, which believes me, that'll get your ass to a doctor really fast. This all occurred over the course of a few weeks, maybe a month and a half.

Anyway: Urinary tract infection. They gave me some antibiotics, took those for a little bit (less than a month, I believe), and everything normaled out. No permanent damage, everything's fine these days. So hopefully that's all it is.

It's hard for *doctors* to figure out oddities in urination, so I doubt you'll get any really great answers here. Peeing for a minute or two isn't really normal, so I'd suggest going to a doctor.

That said, weird urination issues do seem to happen to guys sometimes, randomly appearing and clearing up for no apparent reason.

Are you sure it's a minute or two, or does it just feel like a minute or two to finish? So far nothing sounds so abnormal that alarm bells should be going off.

Also, you could very well be psyching yourself out, and developing shy bladder as a result.
