Well, just as it says in the title, my DVD-RW drives keep randomly going into a mode where the disk keeps spinning, but the drive seems to just twiddle it's thumbs and not actually read it. Any programs which are using the drive (usually when installing something or ripping a CD/DVD) just lock up and get tagged as "(Not Responding)" until the drive "wakes up". When that happens, the read light on the front flashes, and everything goes back to normal.
Until it happens again.
This is happening to me on both of my LG drives (they look like
these ones here on Newegg), and it's really quite annoying; stuff that shouldn't take very long does, since the drives just sit there
My hard drive is connected via SATA too, but I've not had issues with that. I'm running on an Asus P5Q-E motherboard, with the BIOS set to use AHCI (Vista 64-bit.) I tried googling both "SATA DVD drives freeze" and "SATA optical drives freeze" but didn't get anything that looked similar, or anything recent.
Any ideas? I tried reseating the connectors a while ago, but that didn't do anything so I just left it be. It's just now the drive seems to be freezing more frequently, but still random (ripping a CD went flawlessly, then ripping it again causes freezing on every track.)
