So my attempt at batch painting 5 dudes, turned into 2. Also one is significantly more painted than the other.

    Hells. :(

Batch/Speed painting never works for me. The only time I've been able to do it with any consistency is when I was helping my brother paint up a bunch of simple WHFB night goblins. I think most of the problem is that I can't ignore mistakes and fix them later.

A great gaping maw instead of the gun's normal housing, eyes for headlights and turn the dozer blade into a set of teef. Also add [strike]moar dakka[/strike] a giant rune of Khorne on the top.

Speaking of basing, does anyone know how GW's snow is supposed to work? I want to pile it on and on, so it goes high, instead of the flat layer of fuzz. If I try using more glue, the snow melts and it looks like toxic waste.

I'm going to try green stuffing where I want the snow, painting it white, and PVA gluing the powder on for the texture. Like this:

    snow.jpg

That should give me the height I want without the toxic waste effect, right?

thats how I generally do mine and I'm happy with the result.

Been working on some anti-tank for my marines. Still needs some cleanup and a few things like purity seals but it's pretty much done as it is. Thanks to Dayspring for the inspiration and an actual model to get ideas from. Crappy picture quality D:

Yup Attack bikes. I was never a fan of the ones with the sidecar. When Dayspring sent me the bike on the right as part of my secret santa gift I decided I should make more of them. It wasn't as hard as I expected, all you need is a few spare Tau parts (or Space Marine as Dayspring did) and willingness to possibly ruin a model.

Great suggestions of the possessed Vind. I already made an eye for the spotlight I attached on the top (man this green-stuff rocks), and am trying to think about how to do some teeth for the dozer blade. Will probably just cut some plasticard and form some GS around it, then make some gums to stick them in. Really like that idea in general.

Also the side eye sounds great as well.

As for the cannon, I was thinking of making it look like it was coming out of another smaller mouth. Maybe have some blood dripping directly out of it.

So, does anybody have any experience with Rustoleum's "magnetic" primer? I'm making some upgrades to my workshop - a small section of magnet-attracting blackboard is part of the project. So far, I've got three coats of the stuff applied directly to 1/4" hardboard, and it's enough for a standard magnet to _just_ stick to it. Haven't tried any of my rare earth magnets yet though.

But the other night, the thought occurred to me - maybe this would be easier than countersinking washers or somesuch into a board to make one of those magnetic display trays. Just take a plain old piece of 1/2 or 3/4 inch plywood, edge it to hide the layering of the plywood, then texture and prime the hell out of it with this stuff. In theory, anyway, the rare earth's should then stick wherever the hell you want them. My only concern is that if it really requires 3 or 4 coats of this stuff before magnets really work, I might wind up trashing my texturing job.

Anyway, unless someone has already tried this and failed, I may have to experiment a little once my workshop gets relatively back in order.

Does anyone have any tips for painting Guard faces? The model doesn't look too bad for table-top, but when you look at his face it looks pretty ugly.

I'm going to try uploading some pictures so you can see Captain Ugly Bastard.

Been banging away at my Grey Knights.

Got the basic colors down for this Dred, but still a lot of work to do. Any tips on making it really pop?
    img0927.jpg
Spoiler'd for blurry but defined enough to see the colors >_>

(Yes, I know, Wulf get a real fucking camera! :P)

Edit: I've since then banged out the purity seals and the scroll that hangs off the side (just have to do some scrawl on them)

Dheneb Stone, heavy wash of Gryphonne Sepia, light drybrush dheneb Stone. I actually use Tamiya Flat Flesh for the drybrush, but I don't know what a similar color in the GW range would be.

(actually, just as an experiment, the Dheneb Stone drybrush was what I used on my seraphim a couple pages back)

Feb 09's issue of white dwarf (WD33), has a great guide on general face painting that I've been using. There's a guide on what colors to use, where to shadow and where to highlight. It's fast and easy, and works great. Basecoat in tallarn flesh, paint recesses with ogryn wash, first highlights with 1:1 Dwarf Flesh: Bleached Bone, final highlight with just a little bleach bone.

I use Dheneb Stone foundation paint and wash it with ogryn flesh. Very quick and quite satisfying result imho:

For flesh I like to use tallarn flesh shaded with charadon granite and highlighted with bleached bone and skull white.

Obviously blend the colours with various mixes and thin painting.

I'll try and get some pics of what I mean when I start painting the navy armsman I'm working on.

    Cheers,
