Cheap ways to get digital video portable, and get it onto a television?
So, I recently went on my first real big trip. I learned several things.
One of these things is that hotel televisions do not have good video selections without spending exorbitant amounts of money.
However, I have a crapload of things like ripped DVDs flitting about on my desktop hard drive. And I have an ipod with video support, as well as a PSP.
Issue: Docks and video cables for ipods are 50 dollars each.
This is a bit much for me for so little. What are my cheaper options? Third-party equipment? Dedicated devices? Would it be faster and easier to just rig together a laptop with TV-out?
Thanks in advance.

If you have a laptop that you're bringing along, it's pretty easy to rig up to the TV. A composite cable plus maybe an s-video -> composite adapter makes it pretty cheap as well.

How cheap would a remote for my laptop be, then? And could you recommend a free media center app designed for playing on crappy TVs?
Oh, and I'll probably end up with a netbook over the next few months, as more frequent traveling will require something slimmer and more efficient than my crappy old machine. Is there a way to cheaply convert VGA into composite?
$50 seems outrageously expensive for iPod video cables.
I don't have an iPod but video cables for my Zen Vision M cost ~$8.
Exactly. I've never found Apple's main hardware to be all that overly expensive, but their accessory division can suck a thing you only suck in a very sexual situation.

Seems that some of Apple's "proprietary" cables consist of nothing but mis-labelling the plugs.
Hmm...Looks like that WOULD work. Now I just need to find an inexpensive solution for a remote.
Those are very important questions.
I use a camcorder cable for my iPod. You just have to switch 2 of the plugs.
Doesnt work with the new ipods/iPhone though.
phat, and 5G, I believe.
An examination shows I do not have the new interface on my ipod.
