Marijuana and blood tests/liver report

I tried marijuana for the first time on Saturday. I only took one hit, and I don't think I even got high (I used a very small amount). I was just curious to what it was like so I tried it. I am currently also in the process for applying for a government volunteer position that I believe has a strict no use policy. Through the application process I've had to go through an extensive medical review. I find out that I need to have a current liver function test done. Today I went to the medical center and made an appointment for this coming Friday. A liver function test is done by drawing blood.

My question is this: Will this liver function test show the use of the drug? Will it report abnormal findings for THC?

I am turning my liver report in through fax, so I will have a chance to see the report before I turn it in. Of course I would not modify it in any way, however I suppose I could have another test done in the future (but then I'd have to explain to my parents why, and I really really don't want to do that.) So am I screwed or am I just worrying too much?

Random pot hits won’t stay in your system more than 24 hours (but it will stay in your hair!). For pot to hang around longer than that, you have to be smoking lots of it on a very regular basis.

My friend compared my use of it to second hand smoke. So it's good to know that it wont stay in my system too long.

I should note that it is not a drug test that I will be taking, but a liver function test. I already expect my liver function to be abnormal due to a genetic benign liver condition I have (Gilberts Disease). I'm just worried about this use of marijuana appearing in the results.

Don't worry about it, and if you are worried(you shouldn't be), just make sure you drink a good amount of water to flush out your system. Things really don't stay in your body that long most of the time. You'll be fine.

Edit: When I say good amount, I don't mean anything abnormal. Just keep hydrated :)

Think about it this way. Your current job is to test X for Y. In this case, X is 'livers' and Y is 'genetic condition'.

Tests of any kind cost money. You want to make money. Would you also test for Z, where Z is 'random drug the subject might have done that I don't give 2 shits about'?

Basically, what the above posters are saying. Don't worry at all, you're completely fine.

(also, if you'd listen to my advice, it seems as if you already have a slight tendency towards authority-associated-paranoia. I'd advise against future experimentation with psychoactive drugs, including pot, if this assumption is right. You'll probably never enjoy yourself more than you'll be worried if this is the case.)

If you haven't signed any sort of authorization form for them to drug test you, they're not drug testing you.

Blood tests show use of marijuana within the last 2-3 days for heavy smokers, 1 day for light smokers.

Also, you have the right to know what tests are being performed. A liver function test is not the same as a THC test. While a blood sample might be used for both, they are not equivalent tests. If you're really paranoid, ask the lab tech, "So what tests are they going to run on my blood?"

But you probably have nothing to worry about.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

While this thread is up and not wanting to clutter up th fourm more, I have a friend that smokes pot constantly. I smoke occasionally...maybe once or twice a month. However my friend does so almost every day and I am worried. Does anyone know what problems he can get into? I want to convince him not to do it so often as we have been friends for about 15 years

Spending all of his food budget on Doritos and Twinkies?
Injuring himself while attempting to fashion a bong out of some ridiculous household item?
Laughing at TV or movies that clearly aren't funny?

What kind of "problems" are we talking about - social stigma, mental/physical health, legal issues ... ?

Well smoking anything is not the best for your lung health, although the link between cannabis use and cancer is tenuous at best.

But it's, like, natural, maaannnnnnnnn ...

Smoking anything isn't particularly good for your lungs, and can lead to some general respiratory problems, but I'm assuming that the crux of this is about everyone's favourite hotbutton issue, cancer.

There's a lot of argument on both sides, and even more mudslinging. Those who say that marijuana is just as likely to cause mouth/lung/throat cancer are corporate puppets for Big Business and/or The Man, and those who say it doesn't are just a bunch of dirty old hippies who don't want to give up smoking the sticky-icky. Personally, I think the truth lies in the middle - yes, it can cause it, maybe there's a lower risk because the THC is an inhibitor, but frankly I think it's your own choice to smoke it, so go nuts.

The limited studies that are done seem to indicate that pot does not appreciably raise your risk of getting cancer, and that, in fact, if you smoke both pot and cigarettes, you are less likely to get cancer than someone who just smokes cigarettes.

There are, however, neurological symptoms associated with heavy marijuana use. They go away if you stop smoking it for awhile ("awhile" being, like, a few days), but they're there. Most of my stoner friends will cleanse every few months, stop smoking for a couple of weeks, then go back to it.
