[Bad Decisions] Selling your old consoles/games...

I'm sure you have all made the mistake of selling a beloved console from time to time. Maybe it was because of late bills, no more room, needed so extra cash, or maybe the worst reason of all.. you were bored of it.

I recently sold off/traded my Genesis, 360, NES, SNES, and Gamecube recently. I admit that the most of these didn't hold any particular heart strings. Truth be told I used some of these systems to buy the Wii I have now and some sweet VC games, and after that they just simply became obsolete. This story however is not about the cube, the SNES, NES, or Genesis...it's about the 360.

Right about the time I got my Wii I was playing my 360 daily. The sweetness, oh the sweetness of it all. Then doubt filled my head, "What if I get RRoD?" what if I become a statistic?! There it sat atop my big screen for months on end. It was like an ex girlfriend watching my every move. Watching as I became more and more happy with my current love. A few more months later I promptly traded it for a faster computer. Oh how I miss your FPS's and your awesome graphics. Oh why oh why did I ever trade you away?

Hopefully I can save some moolah and get the $199 version. I miss Halo 3 and Dead Rising. D:

I have never regretted selling an old console. Well, maybe my N64.

But I regret selling/trading in games all the time. And then I end up re-buying them. I just picked up F.E.A.R. cause I traded it in a while ago and had the urge to play it again.

I do this alot actually. FF12 I traded in, then bougth it again, same with Call of Duty 3 and a few others.

Hey, I havn't shanked anybody in the neck for a while. I may need to hunt down a cheap copy of Assassins Creed.

EDIT: That last bit is a little confusing. I bought Assassin's Creed, played the Hell out of it, then traded it in. And now I miss it.

I sold my Saturn, a CRAP load of really good games, and a pretty good chunk of my Dreamcast import collection because I needed the money.

I miss those things, but life is life and sometimes it really sucks.

I sold my N64 and just about everything I had for it to get my GameCube. Not that I didn't enjoy my gamecube, but now, looking back, I wish I hadn't since there were so many good games on the N64 I would love to play again.

I loaned a friend my Dreamcast and still haven't gotten it back. I hate that guy.

Also, what Crazybear said. It's ridiculous how many times I've sold/traded a game and then a year later I think, "That game was AWESOME!" and I rebuy it and play the hell out of it.

I sold my N64 and its collection of games for a Dreamcast, which was actually an awesome decision.

Sadly, I then turned around and sold the Dreamcast and my games for a PS2. That one I regret.

When I moved house as a kid, for some inexplicable reason my mum threw my NES out. I have no idea why, and I wish to god I'd known so I could've stopped her.

Slightly more recently, I loaned my cousin my horde of Gameboy games and never saw them again...

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with that one. Save up and get the $300 60gig, because if you use your xbox at all, you're going to need a hard drive. Fact of life.

I've never dumped my consoles, but I ditched my launch copy of Metal Gear Solid for shitty trade-in credit at EB. I rue that decision so hard.

    I regret losing my Genesis.
I used to play the hell out of that thing. I think I wore out three controllers during the time I had it.
My only consolation is that I can still play Sonic 3 & Knuckles due to it be relreased so many times. I think I've bought that game(s) 5 times over.

I sold a PS2, Gamecube, XBox and about 60 games a couple weeks ago. I don't regret it.

I still have a NES, SNES, Dreamcast, PSX, Genesis, Saturn and a launch PS2 that needs cleaned every once in a while. I never get rid of my favorite games or ones that are worth money.

    This. A million times.

Hardly a week goes by that I don't missing SF CD, Lunar, or Eternal Champions CD. Good, good times.

That and my Dreamcast. Sure, technically I still have my DC, but its broken and that makes me sad :(.

The only game I've sold and regretted doing so was when I sold Chrono Trigger on eBay for $80, complete with box, instruction manual, and everything else that came in the box (Nintendo Power crap, fliers, etc.). I was in college and I needed the money.

Other than that, I've sold my SNES, Genesis, N64, GBA, Gamecube, Playstation 2, and dozens of games for each system without even batting an eye.

I sold my Japanese PS2 when I was out of work and needed money. Man, that hurt. So many games I'm probably never going to be able to play again like Siren 2 & Summon Night 3.

Not the kind of regret your talking about but close ...

I sold my brother my beloved Day 1 PSP. It was a anniversary gift from the wife but the new PSP 2000 was coming out and it was too simular to really hold on to the 1000. This system went through two E3, five trips to Europe, and one trip to Japan and not a scratch on it.

But since it was going to be sold within the family it really didn't hurt to sell it to much. Come the very next weekend I came over to let him borrow some games to get him started he said no he doesn't need them. And he showed me the screen was cracked in more pieces then I could ever imagine a screen could. He "says" he and his girlfriend were "wresting" in bed and they rolled over and ....

Seriously, it was my baby. Not the best system but like my others well cared for. And now do you think with the 3000 coming out am I going to sell him 2000?

I don't ever trade games in, but I did get rid of a box of old computer games a few years ago, which I regret. It was stuff like, the pc version of Mega Man, a couple of the Carmen Sandiego games, The Lost Tribe, some old crappy superman game...I'm kind of regretting it now, just because I'm such a damn pack rat when it comes to games.

Other than that, I still have all of my old games, even back to my atari 7800.

I sold my NES(for $6), Genesis, 32X, and GameGear when I was younger, with all my games. Most everything I regretted selling, I had good games and they were all in good condition and complete. And I didn't make much money off them either.

Since then I've rebought a NES, Genesis, 32X, and most of my games. I couldn't be happier to have them back.

MegaDrive is the european name for the Sega Genesis.

I have no idea what they are doing in Orange County, CA, i mean that shouldn't even work on your Tv's and power supplies without some jiggery-pokery.

Unless something *else* has been named MegaDrive and it's a big coincidence/they hoped no-one would notice.

I never sell anything. I sold my Genesis and my copy of Soulblazer when I was little, and I miss them terribly. Now I pack everything away carefully for future generations. Even if I'll never play them again, it's nice to know they they're there.

I will always remember the first time I traded in games to buy another game. It was at something called Funco or Funco Land (I think) and I was probably something like 10 years old. I brought in 6-7 NES and SNES games fully convinced that it could buy me at least 2 new games.

I was so wrong it was criminal.

See, I didn't know back then that the whole used game trade-in schtick was basically just a huge ripoff. I was given maybe 3-4 bucks apiece for games that cost more than ten times that much. Not only was I unable to buy a new game, I had to use my saved up allowance money to buy a used copy of King of the Monsters 2. Again, in my tiny foolishness, I thought that if the King of the Monsters arcade game was so much fun, then King of the Monsters 2 would be even better. It wasn't. It was, in fact, basically a piece of crap compared to the arcade game.

And the register moron just let me all do this. Didn't even try to suggest a good game instead of what was obviously a bad deal. This one event has left me with a distinct dislike for chain used game stores forever.
