Hey, I'm a first time poster. This is just gabe's picture from gabeart that I colored in (Duh). It's my first real try at coloring (or photo-editing period), but I think it turned out pretty well. Any feedback you could give would be great. Right now I'm using a free program called Deep Paint, it had some cool textures. If anyone knows a good free alternative to photoshop please tell me.

    Those textures are very unflattering.

don't, don't don't don't use those textures. They emphasize the flatness of everything and completely kill the smooth style of the drawing.

Also, did you try to put those kind of lightning effects around the arm and the crotch like the "Gears of War" picture Gabe did? Because it's kind of hard to see 'em. :?

Other than that, I'll just repeat what has already been said about those textures: don't use them.

I appreciate gabe sharing his secrets with the fan community, but if it means we'll have a dozen people vomiting up coloring book style renditions of his work now that they know *teh secrets* every time he makes a new video, then It isn't worth it.

Is that the plastic wrap setting? Why would you even do that?

and uh...why does the light turn yellow once it goes past his body? Generally the halo around a slightly overexposed image is the same color as the light source.

And since your background is white, we are assuming the light being over exposed is also white....which would make the light enveloping Mr. Fett also white.

    Not that pukey yellow.

I was debating whether that junk was a texture filter or terrible jpeg artifacts. I am sorry to find out the answer.

    :winky:

I would say that it needs more lensflares, but that mule has been whipped so hard, that now that an opportune moment arises, it has lost all meaning.

Is there something you guys aren't telling me? Is there like... a week after flame week where new people join up and post this kinda stuff in some sort of a sick joke?

Contrary to popular belief, the use of filters does not make you cool. In fact, they give you prostate cancer.

Scratch the smudge tool off that. Used well it can be a very powerful tool.

And the line tool? Thats also dead useful in getting perspective guidelines worked out.

That one...but I'd never seen the show, or the intro, or anything. I had only seen (and learned its existance from) a Google image search of my initials a few years ago. So all I'd seen were crazy 80's cartoon pictures.

Wow, you guys are total douchebags. Yeah, those textures don't look good, but did you all have to be such stereotypical forum-trolling assholes about it?

So, you see some guy, trying his hand at digital art for the first time (or nearly), using a free piece of software (not PS, like some of you assumed, even though he explicitly wrote otherwise) because he can't afford PS, and what's your impulse? Trash him, and discourage him from ever getting better.

I mean, seriously, at least be nice just so you don't seem like such fucking clichés.
