My brother has had a really good experience with his Vizio and he recommended the VO32L, but I guess they also have one specifically for gaming - the VMM26? Anyone no anything about that? They seem like good products and you get a lot of bang for your buck!
I second the thought about Vizios if you're on a budget and you're not looking for a tv that's huge. I got the older version of the one above for $500 a little while back and it's perfect for my needs, looks great and has loads of connection options.
I recently picked up a Samsung T220 22" HD flat panel to use as my monitor. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to shell out money for one of the 40" or 50" models recommended by the other posters. So far I've been quite pleased with it though, it comes with a built in HDTV tuner, and a pair of 2 channel speakers built in. Nothing fancy compared to the more expensive models, but for $329 Canadian plus tax it lets me play games in 1680x1050 with remarkable clarity/picture.
So the Phillips outlet deal posted on http://www.slickdeals.net/ seems pretty good, I had been thinking about waiting until black friday to get a new tv. Does anyone know how these prices compare to what we will see then?
With 100hz refresh if you can spare the extra hundred quid or so.
That is pretty much all you need to know.
I have this exactly.
Connected to it are an HDTV receiver, Xbox 360, PS2, Gamecube, PC Media center, and soon a PS3....everything works great on it. The 1080p games for the 360 are f-ing gorgeous. (as are everything else)

Philips is leaving the US market. I'm really leery of buying anything from them at this point.
Yeah, in the time I've owned a PC I've had a grand total of 4 monitors. The first was a 19" samsung flatscreen CRT that I bought way back in 2001, the other two were an NEC's 20" CRT and a 19" Acer flat panel LCD monitor. The last of course is my recently purchased 22" samsung. Out of all my old monitors the 19" samsung is still the only one that's working and working well. Two other friends of mine also had Samsung monitors both dating back to around 1999 and they also are still working in perfect condition. The fact that everything I've bought from Samsung so far has yet to break down even once gives me a certain vote of confidence in the brand.

I've gotten a pair of excellent Philips HDTVs. My newest is fantastic. Just as good as the Samsung I compared it to. 32" (only 720p, of course), and 3 HDMI inputs for less than $750. Exceptionally thin, compared to the Sony I looked at, and much lighter, which was great for the wall-mounting. The menu interface is stellar, as well.
In short, I love my Philips. They make quality, well-designed consumer electronics. Whether they're leaving the US market doesn't concern me too much, as long as they're here now.
It concerns me when it comes to supporting the product after the sale.
I can see that. The way I understand it is that they'll still offer support as normal, regardless of their retail presence in the country. That said, I've never had a television require any sort of service during the first 5 years of ownership, and if you're really concerned about the whole shebang, you could always pick up an inexpensive store warranty. Walmart's was about $80 when I bought my TV, and it was one of those almost-no-questions-asked deals where they just take it back and give you store credit. Best Buy has something similar, as do most big boxes.

i bought a samsung 50' 720p plasma, and i LOVE it. it's not the highest of the high def, but it was on sale at best buy, so i picked it up. works great. the only problem i can see is that images tend to get burned in a bit quickly (castle crashers), but it goes away relatively quickly as well.
i highly reccommend. my friend has a 1080p samsung of a similar size, and the difference wasnt noticible enough for me to justify the extra few hundred dollars.
My westinghouse 47" 1080p makes a fantastic monitor, and it's cheap. Only gripe about the tv is the contrast ratio compared to other TVs, but compared to my dell 20" monitor, it's perfectly fine.

What im more worried about are these prices now vs black friday prices in a month? Can anyone remember what we saw last year in terms of pricing for 40"+ TVs?
Panasonic TH-50PZ800U. 50" 1080p Plasma. Not only is it the best plasma you can get outside of going for a Pioneer Kuro (uber cash), but everything I've read so far from people says that it's a great monitor.
